GEERT WILDERS’ “BLASPHEMY TRIAL’ ADJOURNED

The Dutch court has adjourned the trial of Geert Wilders to give the three witnesses testifying for Wilders time to schedule their testimony.
The Dutch blogger Snouk writes that:
The court has requested Mr. Geert Wilders to provide verhinderdata (can’t-make-it-dates) from the three witnesses whom he’s been permitted to call. The trial will resume in June if I am not mistaken.
[…]
This information was provided in the hearing. The full hearing in Dutch was put on the internet by the NOS (Dutch State Broadcasting) here at the end. I have not seen a full transcript in Dutch or English.
However, I made a mistake. Apologies. I listened to the last part of the hearing again and the trial will take place between 1st of June and 31 October. Not in June. The exact date will depend on the availability of the witnesses.
I asked Paul Belien about the delay and he wrote:
it may even be longer than nine months. I think the Dutch authorities, fearing that Wilders might electorally benefit from a conviction, try to postpone the trial until after the next general elections (which are normally due in the Spring of 2011, but will probably be held in the Fall of this year). Nobody knows when the trial will start again. That is entirely up to the court — which serves the interests of the Dutch political establishment.
This is harassment, persecution, and attrition.
