US “CONCERNED” AS IRAN ROLLS OUT SURVEILLANCE AND ATTACK UAV’S
Officials said the UAVs also include rotary-wing vehicles that could be deployed in urban warfare missions.
“These aircraft would be used for operations as well as surveillance, which means they can send us online footage from huge distances and can also be armed to strike targets,” Iranian Army commander Brig. Gen. Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said.
Pourdastan said several of the indigenous aircraft would be displayed during Iran Army Day, and that production of some of the platforms has already begun.
“We have made good advances, and production is going on at suitable rate,” Pourdastan told a briefing on April 12.
The United States has expressed concern over Iran’s UAV program. In February 2010, Teheran launched production lines for two UAV models, which included a combat platform.
Pourdastan also cited the production of unmanned helicopters for the Iranian Army. He said details of the rotary-wing UAVs would be released soon.
“The new radar equipment of the aircraft’s defense system as well as unmanned helicopters are some of the army’s new achievements that will be displayed at the parade,” Pourdastan said.
