Exclusive: Mojave Desert War Memorial Stolen – $100,000 Reward Offered

The Editors

Just weeks after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling allowing the Mojave Desert War Memorial to stay in the Mojave National Preserve, the seven-foot monument was stolen. During the night on Sunday, May 9th, vandals cut through the metal bolts holding the metal pipe cross to the top of the memorial’s Sunrise Rock and carried it away.

There is, of course, speculation that someone who disagreed with the SCOTUS ruling is responsible for the theft.

Erected in 1934 by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the symbol served as a memorial for World War I soldiers. Since that time, for many people the majestic and beloved memorial grew to represent a remembrance for all of America’s war dead.

Because of the heinous nature of this crime and the contempt it represents not only to the rule of law, but to all living and deceased military personnel and their families, a donor to FamilySecurityMatters.org – who is an anonymous U. S. military veteran, wounded and a recipient of the Silver Star Medal – is offering a $100,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of those responsible for its theft.

We are confident that our donor’s generosity will help to bring the criminals to justice and that the message rings loud and clear that we will never allow such a vile crime that defiles the memory our nation’s war dead to stand. Not now, not ever

We will not let this crime stand!
