100 Candidates for Federal Office Openly Oppose Building of Ground ZeroMega-Mosque
Coalition to Honor Ground Zero Launches New Petition
New York, NY—The Coalition to Honor Ground Zero today launched its new “Defend Ground Zero” campaign asking all candidates for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to publicly declare their opposition to the plan to build a mosque and Islamic center near Ground Zero. A bipartisan group of 100 candidates for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives has already answered the call by speaking out against the building of this mosque or signing the Defend Ground Zero Statement. A list of candidates opposing the mosque can be viewed at: www.defendgroundzero.com.
Earlier this year, President Obama’s support for the construction of a mega-mosque and Islamic center two blocks from Ground Zero in lower Manhattan sparked public outrage and bipartisan condemnation. The controversial plan would place a 13-story mosque where Islamic terrorists killed more than 2,000 Americans on 9/11. The plan is not only an insult to 9/11 families, but the mosque’s construction would be viewed abroad as an Islamist triumph over America.
“The Ground Zero mosque would not only defile hallowed ground, but it would be seen as a permanent symbol of violent Islamic victory in the heart of Manhattan,” said the coalition in a statement. “The American people have clearly rejected the Ground Zero mosque, and it’s now becoming clear that our elected officials agree. We’re grateful for the groundswell of support that we’re receiving from patriotic candidates of both parties from across the country. And we urge all candidates to join us by signing the Defend Ground Zero Statement.”
The Defend Ground Zero Statement reads:
“As a candidate for Congress, I join the majority of the American people in opposition to the proposed Ground Zero Mosque. It would be an affront, especially in this location, to those who perished in the worst attack ever launched against the homeland of the United States. All Americans have a right and an obligation to defend Ground Zero.”
The Coalition to Honor Ground Zero is opposed to the building of the thirteen floor mega-mosque near Ground Zero, and any other act that dishonors the hallowed ground at Ground Zero and those whom were victimized on 9/11.
