2011 Chautauqua Season: June 25–August 28
Chautauqua Institution is a community on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York state that comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. Over the course of nine weeks, more than 170,000 visitors will stay at Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages—all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village.
Job Title: Scholar in Residence
Location (City & State): Chautauqua, New York 14722
Job Description: For the 9 week Summer Program of the Chautauqua Institution, the Muslim House of Chautauqua Scholar in Residence runs classes, gives Khutbah and is available for Question & Answer sessions.
Responsibilities: Teach a 1.5 hour class on Islam Monday through Friday to approximately 10 non-Muslims. The class repeats weekly with new participants each week. The Jumah Khutbah has about 50 different non-Muslim visitors each week. Be available for Question & Answer sessions regularly.
Qualifications/Skills Requirements: Applicant should be well knowledgeable on Islamic teachings and issues known to scholars. The visitors we are teaching are mostly Christian and come from all denominations of Christianity. Being conversant in American modes of theology is helpful for teaching.
