Our NER interview with Timmerman about his writings, human rights work for embattled Iraqi Christians, regime change in Iran and support for Israel, is included in The West Speaks, just published.
Timmerman ,as we noted in our post on his announcement for the GOP congressional primary, chose to run against his likely Democratic contender, Chris Van Hollen, an assistant to House minority leader Nancy Pelosi , on Hollen’s record as a member of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, the Super Committee, that failed to resolve the dispute over reigning in the towering budget deficit and national debt growth.
That core message reverberated in his victory comment released today. He said to his campaign workers and supporters:
Last night, we won a decisive victory in our campaign to bring sanity back to Washington. Now we must build an insurgency across the new 8th District so we duplicate this victory in November.
My opponent in November, incumbent Rep. Chris Van Hollen, wants to raise your taxes and expand government so it controls more and more of your lives. He wants to shrink our military, and subject our national sovereignty to a raise of hands from countries that despise everything that has made America great. He prides himself for playing a leading role in passing Obamacare in a narrowly partisan vote, rushed through Congress before legislators could even read the bill.
I believe in a different America, an America built on hard work and personal responsibility, where government’s main role is to level the playing field and establish a set of rules so each citizen has a fair chance to achieve his dreams. I believe in equal opportunity, not equal outcomes.
There comes a time in the affairs of men when the citizens must rise up to break the shackles of oppression. In America, we still do this in the voting booth. Join with me as we build our movement in the coming months to exercise that freedom in November. We can defeat the machine politics of the organized Left and the union bosses. With your hard work and your prayers, we can unseat their puppet, Chris Van Hollen, so we can raise our families according to our values, not some bureaucrat’s.
Timmerman, a past President of the Maryland Taxpayer Association brought the Taxpaper Protection Pledge to the Free State in 2000. We noted in the announcement of his run for the GOP Maryland 8th CD primary that Timmerman had rejected a No Tax Pledge authored by Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform. Timmerman said:
Norquist supports open borders, gay marriage, and Shariah law in US courts. I see nothing conservative about those positions.
Timmerman has signed a separate pledge, if elected, to repeal death taxes and be a staunch advocate for Maryland taxpayers. Further, he said, “I understand better than most when they talk about ‘government revenue’, they mean, your money.”
Timmerman’s decisive victory in the Maryland 8th CD last night must be followed up with fund raising for the main contest against Van Hollen in November. To obtain assistance from the Republican National Committee, Timmerman‘s campaign must raise in excess of $100,000 to be eligible for matching funds. Doubtless he and his campaign staff will begin today to engage in aggressive fund raising to build a war chest sufficient to expose and vanquish his Democratic opponent in November’s Congressional race.
For sure, Timmerman has the mettle to win. His commanding authoritative background on both domestic and foreign issues, especially human rights and support for Israel, should stand him in good stead in his quest for ultimate victory.
