DANIEL GREENFIELD: THE BEST SAUDI FOREIGN POLICY MONEY CAN BUY

http://frontpagemag.com/2012/05/31/the-best-foreign-policy-saudi-money-can-buy/ Let’s say that there are three Muslim countries in the Middle East, which, facing a domestic insurgency, use ruthless tactics to suppress it. Which one gets a pass? The answer is easy. The Saudi ally gets the pass; the others get invaded. But “pass” is too mild a word, because after bombing Libya into […]

HERBERT LONDON: THE SLEEPERS WE CHOOSE TO IGNORE

SHUT UP AND PLAY YOUR GUITAR! THE HYPOCRISY OF IDIOTIC MULTIMILLIONAIRE CELEBRITY ROCK STARS: JOHN BRACY GIBBON

http://www.thecommentator.com/article/1269/shut_up_and_play_your_guitar_the_multi_millionaire_celebrity_hypocrisy_of_idiotic_rock_stars

If a truly brilliant, privileged, charismatic, multi-talented, ideas-driven rock band can’t get it right? Who can?

Apart from the ‘hilarity’ of Saturday morning comedy on BBC R4, one of the few joys of the BBC these days is BBC4, and it excelled itself recently with a terrific documentary on the making of Pink Floyd’s album, Wish You Were Here. There’s been a fair bit of Floyd archive-driven stuff recently, but despite that, this was truly revealing. But maybe in a way the BBC didn’t intend.

I was alerted to its existence on a football forum thread which illustrated part of Floyd’s enduring appeal, nay brilliance – the band’s evident cross-class constituency, not to mention their appeal to women.

Barry White has little to fear from the Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, but the Floyd remain the soundtrack for milf action across the land. Or so I’m told.

Aged 11, I was introduced to Dark Side of the Moon via ‘Money’. The use of the word “bullshit” in the lyric – four years before punk – was shocking indeed, especially so if you lived in Surbiton. I subsequently bought what was my second album, after Bowie’s Hunky Dory, A Nice Pair.

This was a Pink Floyd double album comprising Piper at The Gates Of Dawn and Saucerful Of Secrets. Two prog albums marketed with a very punk epithet. The cover itself featured a pair of breasts, and a hand holding a pear with a cross through it.

DANIEL GREENFIELD: THE PATRIOTISM OF PALESTINIANISM *****

http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/

Each century brings forth its own patriots. Once upon a time we had Patrick Henry, today we have Senator Patrick Leahy, who declared in the Senate that his opposition to an amendment that would distinguish how much of the UNRWA’s funding goes to actual refugees versus fake refugees was a patriotic act.

“I always look at what is in the United States’ interest first and foremost, and this would hurt the United States’ interests,” Senator Leahy stated firmly. It is of course difficult to find as compelling a national interest as the UNRWA, a refugee agency created exclusively for the benefit of five million Arabs, approximately 30,000 of whom are actual refugees, but all of whom hate the United States.

Senator Leahy, who could not discover a national interest in the Balanced Budget Amendment, drilling for oil in ANWR or detaining Muslim terrorists, all of which he voted against; finally discovered a binding national interest 5,500 miles away in Jordan, where “refugee camps” like Baqa’a (pop. 80,000), which are virtually indistinguishable from local towns and cities, complete with block after block of residential homes, stores and markets, multi-story office buildings, schools, hospitals and assorted infrastructure, must not be looked at too closely.

As a city which will soon celebrate its 50 year anniversary, Baqa’a is older than many modern Israeli cities and is as much a refugee camp as any of them. The only difference between Baqa’a and Ariel, is that no one in Baqa’a does anything for themselves because they are all eternal refugees with an entire UN agency dedicated to wiping their bottoms for them. A unique and singular honor in a world full of authentic refugees who have been driven out by rape squads and genocide, without getting their own minders in blue.

GOODNIGHT VIENNA: DANIEL JOHNSON JANUARY 2012 *****

http://www.jewishideasdaily.com/content/module/2012/1/4/main-feature/1/goodnight-vienna The Jews of Vienna did not merely understand the world: they took Marx’s point and changed it, too. From Freud’s psychoanalysis to Wittgenstein’s philosophy, from Mahler’s music to Herzl’s Zionism, this community made a unique contribution to modernity. Yet our fascination with a handful of celebrities may blind us to the foundation on which […]

THE MONA LISA OF VIENNA: SUSAN HERTOG….SEE NOTE PLEASE

http://www.jewishideasdaily.com/content/module/2012/5/30/main-feature/1/the-mona-lisa-of-vienna/e

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I READ ALL YEAR….RSK

In 1857, when Emperor Franz-Joseph pulled down the ancient stone wall encompassing Vienna, the social and cultural traditions of the country seemed to tumble with it. Impoverished immigrants, many of them Jews, flooded in from the east, changing not only the countenance of the city but its economic, intellectual, and psychological currency. The Ringstrasse—the wide boulevard that replaced the wall—became a proving ground for newly minted industrialists who eagerly displayed their earned status by building palaces alongside those of the propertied aristocracy.

JERROLD L. SOBEL DOCUMENTS THE PRESIDENT’S SHODDY RECORD ON ISRAEL

President Obama, Israel, and Voter Priorities:
In a democracy whether voting for president of a condominium or president of the United States voters cast their ballots based upon their priority of concerns. In a condo development issues such as assessments, security, landscape, what color to paint the houses and a superfluity of other issues occupy homeowners mind before voting for a board president.

In just under 6 months American voters will be electing the 45th President of the United States. Before choosing to reelect President Obama for a second term or Governor Romney, voters must likewise prioritize the individual issues which are relevant to them. And there are many.

Healthcare, the economy, unemployment, taxes, women’s issues, gay rights, class warfare, domestic terrorism; to name just a few. Internationally; Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea and the Middle East conflict also rank high on people’s minds. Judging by the title of this essay it shouldn’t be difficult to see if not at the top, certainly right near it is where my priorities lie.

For Jewish advocates like myself concerned with the security of Israel going forward, President Obama, by his record, may possibly be in deep trouble. Unlike 2008 his policies and actions towards the Jewish state are no longer a matter of conjecture. As an incumbent he has a record to run on, one in which he himself recognizes a constant need to defend.

Poland furious over Barack Obama’s ‘death camp’ comment
Poland’s foreign minister has demanded Barack Obama apologise after referring to “Polish death camps” during the Second World War.

The US President made the slip while honouring Jan Karski, a Polish resistance fighter who was among the first to raise the alarm over the Nazi concentration camps, during a ceremony at the White House.

Poland has long been sensitive to any implication that it was involved in the Holocaust, accurately pointing out that the camps on Polish soil were run by occupying German forces.

Foreign Minister Radek Sikorsi took to Twitter to insist that the White House apologise for the “outrageous error” and said that Prime Minister Donald Tusk would make a statement on Wednesday morning.

“It’s a pity that this important ceremony was upstaged by ignorance and incompetence,” he wrote.

Mr Obama’s gaffe was widely reported on Polish television and on Twitter.

Tommy Vietor, the President’s National Security Council Spokesman, issued a clarifying statement but stopped short of an apology.
