The body politic just can’t take it any more and throws up everything. The result would suit the Democrats just fine. The Democrats pushing immigration reform want the issue, not the reform, and they think a defeat they could hang on the Republicans could give […]
http://www.jpost.com/Opinion/Op-Ed-Contributors/The-frontier-in-Israeli-history-316423
The concept of the frontier, in Jewish terms, is not merely economic, political or geographical.
In 1862, at the beginning of the Civil War, Congress passed and president Abraham Lincoln signed the Homestead Act, which granted unclaimed and uninhabited state land to American “settlers.”
This act was meant to encourage pioneer farmers, some of whom referred to their new territory with biblical names, like “Zion.”
To a large extent, these pioneers defined America’s national character – “rugged individualism,” boldness and courage and a deep belief in American destiny. The frontier became a symbol of American freedom, independence and ingenuity.
Nearly 75 years ago, an American historian, Frederick Jackson Turner, asked a fascinating question that has been the subject of professional debate ever since and that might be relevant for Israel: What was the impact of the frontier on American history? He proposed that the frontier functioned as a sort of socioeconomic safety valve and was a perennial democratizing force in American society. The loss of the frontier (around the turn of the century), he concluded, meant not only the loss of land, but the loss of an ideal – “liberty” and “freedom of opportunity” and a “creative vision of a new order of society.” Settlement of the West was, Turner believed, the essence of the American experience.

I am a crime series junkie. I particularly enjoy some of the Scandinavian police stories….”Wallander” and ” The Protectors” and “The Eagle” and currently I am in the middle of “MI-5 ” on the British intelligence unit. The series was originally titled “Spooks.”
There is a pervading and perverse theme among all these programs…..
Almost all atrocities presumed to be perpetrated by Muslims turn out to be perpetrated by fanatic right wing groups helped by American and British government contractors.
America and its intelligence operations are routinely derided as warmongers, torturers, Islamophobic and venal.
Israel and particularly the Mossad are brutal, duplicitous and monstrous. In a most egregious episode of MI-5, the Mossad killers pose as Arabs and take the Saudi Embassy in Britain hostage, killing Arab diplomats. At the end of the episode a big, hulky Israeli Mossad ringmaster says “Shalom” to the appalled and offended MI-5 agent.
In a Danish series, one of the good cops is Jewish and gratuitously bemoans how Israel has become an occupier and tormentor of Arabs. He is ashamed, ashamed.
And now it appears that the Vikings and the Brits are losing their sovereignty, their courts, their culture to Islam. Tut tut….
Their TV series of the future will be all about the glories of the niqab, the hijab, the jihad…..Instead of “The Protectors” there will be a great series called “The Beheaders.” tut tut

If Republicans want to “reform” immigration laws so badly, I have an idea.
Instead of virtually giving immunity and a pathway to citizenship to every single illegal alien in the country, why not first see just who really wants to become a United States citizen, and who is here just to take advantage of American generosity.
Give public notice to illegal aliens and visa overstayers residing in this country that if they do not voluntarily deport themselves by the end of this year, they will forever be barred from becoming a US Citizen or legal permanent resident. If an illegal alien or visa overstayer is caught in the country beginning next year, not only will they be deported, but they can never legally return.
Now, if an illegal alien or overstayer really, really, really, wants to become a citizen like so many Democrats claim, then this is the ultimate incentive for them to go home and apply for citizenship the old fashioned way: legally.
Both the immigration reform act Ronald Reagan signed into law and the one carved out by the so-called gang of eight are actually different forms of the same thing: amnesty. In fact, the most recent version of amnesty for illegals is in essence a form of extortion. The government won’t prosecute you if you pay it a $2,000 fine, pay back taxes, get and hold a job (good luck with that one), and in your spare time learn conversational English. But, if you have been convicted of a “serious” felony or more than three misdemeanor convictions, you’re outta here! (Who the hell ever came up with those criteria? I guess only being arrested and convicted three times for sneaking across the border, misdemeanor assault on your wife, or drunk driving is the new measure of good citizenship. And who would determine what a serious felony is, the IRS?)

PART 11:
More troubling questions about how benign Islam actually is arise from examining the background of participants in Georgetown University’s April 24, 2013, conference on “The Boundaries of Religious Pluralism & Freedom: The Devil is in the Detail” (conference video here). Hosted by Georgetown’s Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim Christian Understanding (ACMCU) under the auspices of the six-year old “A Common Word” initiative for international Christian-Muslim dialogue, this conference was the subject of a previous American Thinker article. While the conference itself ultimately did not convincingly demonstrate how orthodox Islamic faith could function within a framework of freedom, analysis of the conference participants provokes doubts about just who is promoting interfaith dialogue with Islam.
Behind their invocations of interfaith harmony, various Muslim conference participants had links to Islam’s darker sides. Former Barack Obama adviser Dalia Mogahed, for example, has a long history of associations with, and apologetics for, Muslim supporters of sharia and militant jihad. She even once tweeted that Bashar Assad’s Syrian regime was not worthy of support given its insufficient “resistance to Israel.”
Mogahed’s questionable past prompts consideration of other dubious Islamic influences on the conference. Abdulaziz Sachedina’s current George Mason University professorship, for example, receives its funding from the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), a Herndon, Virginia, entity with Muslim Brotherhood and Islamic terrorist ties (see here and here). The ACMCU’s namesake (since 2005, when he gave the then-existing CMCU $20 million), moreover, is a Saudi prince and businessman memorable for having had his 2001 $10 million donation to New York City rejected. At the time, Mayor Rudolf Giuliani returned bin Talal’s contribution to Gotham’s recovery from the September 11 attacks because of his exculpatory linkage of them to American support for Israel.
While the conference’s Muslim participants drew attention, however inadvertently, to Islam’s difficult and indeed dangerous aspects, Christian participants such as Chris Seiple have in the past been exceedingly forthcoming towards different faiths. A recent article by Seiple, for example, at his Institute for Global Engagement’s (IGE) website based upon his comments at a January 2013 conference in Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar (Burma), called for finding “common values rooted in different theologies” despite “irreconcilable theological differences.” Seiple stated that “followers of Christ must walk in the shoes of the other, if only because He first walked in ours. Take the time to understand and engage the holy scripts of another faith, and what they teach of reconciliation, as understood by a practitioner of that faith.”
