After endorsing the gubernatorial run of conservative California Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, a Tea Party favorite who opposes illegal immigration, actress Maria Conchita Alonso “abruptly” left the cast of a San Francisco play this week.

The actress was to perform next month at the Brava Theater Center in San Francisco’s Mission District in a Spanish-language version of “The Vagina Monologues,” scheduled for a run from February 14th through 17th. The show is being produced by none other than Eliana Lopez, wife of San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi.
“We really cannot have her in the show, unfortunately,” Lopez told KPIX 5. She said Alonso abruptly resigned from the cast on Friday, given the backlash on the immigration issue.
“Of course she has the right to say whatever she wants. But we’re in the middle of the Mission. Doing what she is doing is against what we believe,” Lopez said.
Alonso received an earful from listeners of Spanish-language radio station KIQI 1010 AM in San Francisco on Friday, after she said in an interview that she supported many of Donnelly’s views on illegal immigration. Several listeners took her to task after she used the term “illegal” to describe undocumented immigrants.
To track all aspects of cultural implosion here, try for fun to see the story as if it were appearing on the “nightly news” a half century ago. The first thing to shock the pants off 1964 TV viewers would have been the title of the play Alonso can’t be in: “The Vagina Monologues.” No anchor of the day would have read that title on the air in the 1960s — or 1970s, or 1980s? — in the first place. Civilization had to wait until 1996 for the play’s debut; the resulting (further) crassification of the public square was to follow. The blush, of course, is now off the teleprompter.
But think a moment longer. Decades ago, what “conservative” politician — in this case, probably the most conservative politician running for governor — would have sought an endorsement from a “V” actress? The answer is none. (Not “respectable” way back then.) Today, of course. that same conservative candidate — Donnelly — is running on a pledge to make California “the sexiest place to do business.”
Progress.
And I haven’t even gotten to the news hook.
So, Alonso endorse Donnnelly and has to leave the play’s cast. Why? The explanation is that Donnelly is against illegal immigration and so is Alonso. From what I can tell, Donnelly actually believes in a US border and, it seems, so does Alonso. In other words, they both support the sovereighty of the USA. In the USA city of San Francisco this is such an outrage Alonso can’t work there an actress. How’s that for national meltdown?

“What we believe” in, apparently, is no border. Amnesty, the DREAM Act, the whole bit. In today’s public square, such insurrectionary trends are as unremarkable as an “X-rated” monologue. It’s those people who support a nation, a border — they’re theextremists. (Forget about good taste, let alone cultural sensitibility — that’s so yesterday.)
Meanwhile, who is Lopez? She is the wife of the San Francisco Sheriff.
But he’s some sheriff. For example, Sheriff Ross Mirkamimi supports a proposal to make San Francisco “the first county in the nation to unequivocally refuse to detain immigrants suspected of living here illegally for federal authorities.” In other words, the sheriff is at the forefront of the assault on citizenship and a border — the USA.
More society switchbacks. Once upon a time, a sheriff’s wife was the solidest of citizens who could reliably be counted on to stand for law and order. Today, “law” is out — certainly, immigration law (San Francisco is a “sanctuary city”). But “order” is in. Alonso, for opposing illegal immigration, broke this order. She had to be dealt with. And so she was. The “backlash” from “the community” — not the citizenry; that’s out — sealed the deal.
Net result? The border, the defining line of any nation, just got a whole lot more “controversial” to support.
Still waiting for a “backlash” to that.
