EILEEN TOPLANSKY: OBAMA AND THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

In 1943 Simon and Schuster printed a book entitled The Ten Commandments: Ten Short Novels of Hitler’s War Against the Moral Code. The ten authors included Thomas Mann, Rebecca West, Franz Werfel, John Erskine, Bruno Frank, Jules Romains, Andre Maurois, Sigrid Undset, Hendrik Willem van Loon, and Louis Bromfield.
In the foreword, editor Armin L. Robinson wrote that he hoped that these stories “dealing with the men who have sought to destroy those Commandments–will help to open the eyes of those who still do not recognize what Nazism really is” (ix).
In the preface of the book, Herman Rauschning recounts “A Conversation with Hitler” wherein he asserts that “what the leader of the National Socialist movement sought was the deliberate destruction of the very earth whence our civilization had sprung.” Hitler’s intent was “a murderous assault on every form of higher human culture” (x). The horrible destruction that Hitler wrought was described as “demoniac forces.”
And Rauschning sadly observed that his words were met with the same result everywhere: “skepticism, disagreement, and even confusion” even though the Nazi forces “concern all of us, Christians, Jews, and freethinking humanists alike.”
Like Nazism, sharia law deals “with the deliberately planned battle against the dignified, immortal foundation of human society; the message from Mount Sinai” (x). It is a battle against the Decalogue. When Hitler screamed that “the Christian religion is nothing but a Jewish sect…” and Streicher responded that the Third Reich “[doesn’t] fight Christian circles, [it will] fight against Christian ideas [since] they constitute the real poison in our blood” he was foreshadowing the heinous words that come from the Muslim imams who spew their vile hatred.
When Hitler insisted that “after the destruction of Judaism, the extinction of Christian slave morals must follow logically,” he was laying the foundation for the kidnapping of Nigerian girls and the wholesale destruction of Coptic Christian communities — all committed in the name of the alleged religion of peace.
Have we sunk so low that we can only “understand the divine … in the form of a tyrant who orders one to do the very things one doesn’t like” (xiii)?
In his book entitled Critical Crossings: The New York Intellectuals in Postwar America, author Neil Jumonville writes that in looking back to the 1930s the American philosopher,
Sidney Hook argued that the real failure of intellectuals was not their endorsement of communism, but ‘their renunciation of their vocation to think.’ An intellectual needed to experiment with ideas, and would perhaps support incorrect ideas occasionally, so ‘one should not reproach intellectuals for thinking their way to conclusions which turn out false.’ Intellectuals will ‘make mistakes not only because they think more than others but because they think more freely.’ But ‘the sin of the intellectuals who fell under Communist domination was that they yielded to this demand and stopped thinking’ (134).
Andrew Nagorski in Hitlerland: American Eyewitnesses to the Nazi Rise to Power describes how “most people find it hard to imagine that in the 1920s and right through the 1930s, American reporters, diplomats, entertainers, sociologists, students and others living in or passing through Germany wouldn’t have all instantly seen and understood what was happening before their eyes” (3). Sherwood Eddy, a Protestant missionary and YMCA national secretary was a leader of a delegation to Germany. While there, he spoke about his love for Germany, but also noted that “besides [his] love for Germany; [he had] another, even stronger love in [his] heart: the love for humanity”– a love, which made him into a firm advocate of “impartial justice; freedom of speech, press, and assembly; [and] fundamental moral and economic principles.”
Fast forward to today — sharia law continues to metastasize globally with the latest takeover in Brunei. On this side of the pond, far too many Americans refuse to acknowledge the daily loss of freedoms, the intrusions of the government into their lives, and the capricious and arbitrary whims of an elected leader who willingly shreds the Constitution of the United States and sees himself as an imperial president. Additionally, many in academia have “stopped thinking.”
At the University of Denver Dennis Prager explains that “the greatest threat to our country is that we have forgotten to pass on to the next generation what America stands for.” As such, far too many Americans do not perceive the telltale signs of totalitarianism. They cannot or will not acknowledge the ongoing ravaging of freedom in this country, thus leaving the door wide open to the oppression of sharia law.
The IRS scandal, the Benghazi horror and the NSA intrusions are just a hodge-podge of alphabet soup letters for too many Americans. The idea that Americans should be forced to purchase a product and if we refuse we will be punished, aka Obamacare, does not seem to have impressed itself sufficiently upon the American people. Whatever happened to freedom of choice?
How long will it take before Americans truly comprehend the sweeping nature of the transformation under Obama and the danger this represents to us as a free nation?
Why is it that the stirring words of Thomas Paine, and Thomas Jefferson fall on deaf ears? Why is the courage of the early Tea Party patriots derided and the ideas of the modern Tea Party members mocked? Yet we owe so much to the early colonists’ bravery against the tyrant King George III. It is they who laid the foundation for the “shining city upon the hill.”
America is the closest reality to the Garden of Eden. Yet far too many Americans are trusting and naive and willing to listen to the sounds of the snake that inveigles itself into their homes with falsehoods; thus, they let their guard down and simply cannot accept that Nirvana can dissolve.
Like the prophets of old, those who desperately warn their neighbors of the dangers of sharia intrusion are disparaged. There appears to be a wholesale suicide of reason as these prescient observers are labeled Islamophobes or racists.
We have a President who assiduously works to undermine people’s creative energies; who mocks and humiliates any individual who is an independent thinker; and who vengefully goes after anyone he sees as his enemy. Working hard is derided; businesses are hamstrung; people see their short-term and long-term goals limited and/or destroyed.
Obama is no longer “experimenting with authoritarianism” — he has, as David Catron at the American Spectator explains, completely overstepped his authority because of “his usurpation of power from formerly coequal branches of government.”
But perhaps equally damning is Obama’s desired destruction of the universal truths embodied in the Ten Commandments. After all, Obama energetically asserts that “[t]he future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.” Is it slander to tell the truth? This is a man who sees no sacred element in the ideals of America but will cover up the treachery of Islam and claim that “Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance.”
In his constant screed about the 1%, and the wealthy, Obama disregards the tenth commandment — “Thou shalt not covet your neighbor’s house.” He urges people, via government intervention, to rob from those who have earned their wealth. Doctors, for example, are losing their individual sovereignty as professionals and “their voices are being silenced regarding what they’re to do, when they’re to do it, and what they’re to be paid.” Breaking the seventh commandment permits this President to steal people’s ability to earn money all the while demanding that the middle class shoulder more onerous financial burdens.
He welcomes and protects the purveyors of sharia law who murder with impunity, bear false witness against their neighbors, utilize taqiyya to advance the cause of jihad and demand an end to the freedom of speech. When attempting to understand the components of evil, just remove the “shalt nots” of the Decalogue and the destructive forces quickly become apparent. Like Nazism, Islam is a “demented ideology.”
As a pathological liar himself, Obama exhibits no shame at the grievous harm he has caused America in domestic and foreign policies. Like the snake in the garden of Eden, Obama works to create mistrust and civil unrest among the American people. Obama masterfully plays on the fears, resentments, and prejudices of people. Moreover, allies now know they can no longer count on the President of the United States for protection and friendship.
The more that we overlook the disquieting signs, the more complicit we are in our own demise. Elections do have consequences.
