Op-Ed: Don Imus – We’re in The Same Boat With Israel: Jack Engelhard

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/15407#.U9YVbWOCUtW
Good morning, Don Imus. Caught you this morning on the Fox Business Network and as usual you were right about everything. Except Israel.

If the Jewish State can’t count on America, what’s left?
Dig it, as our guy Lenny used to say, I am touchy on the subject for a thousand different reasons so I won’t even name one. But for the topic at hand, the Arabs versus Israel, you are hugely important. On radio, TV, you’re fast, you’re smart and millions pay attention even when you’re cranky. You’re the last hipster. You grew out of Lenny Bruce.

You’ve got the “undecided” in the palm of your hands. One word from you can tip the scales.

If America equivocates between right and wrong, between Israel and the savages, I fear not only for Israel. I fear for America as well. We are in the same boat.

So on the Gaza crisis, when it came up, I was hoping you would take sides. Staying neutral is the same as taking sides, in this case the wrong side.

Around the world the asylums have emptied out. If the Jewish State can’t count on America, what’s left?

This is a conflict between good and evil. This should not be difficult to separate. On 9/11, when Muslims murdered 3,000 of our people a few blocks from where you were broadcasting in Manhattan, those Hamas Muslims and Fatah Muslims cheered. We wept. They danced and they laughed.

That’s the same crowd that’s been shooting rockets at Israel. That’s the war Israel is fighting and when it comes to evil there is no choice but to crush it entirely.

An ol’ cowboy like you should know when it’s roundup time.

I admire your fight against cancer. Hamas is the cancer.

Even as we speak, a million Israelis have been chased from their homes to evade Hamas rockets coming in from Gaza. I have seen no pictures of this on CNN or the BBC and nothing about it even from your home base, Fox News. Where is the fairness? Where is the balance? Where is Roger Ailes? Fox News was our only hope. Has sanity left the building with Elvis?

From the power of your microphone you alone could make the difference. Or are you too enamored of Shepard Smith in the next room and his warped moral equivalence? Another anchorman that has it in for the Jews. I heard him. You heard him. “Israel has invaded Palestinian territory.”

He should listen to a video that came across just today from a beautiful young Israeli living on a kibbutz. She gazed across the field and saw nine Hamas murderers emerge from a tunnel. Creepy enough? “They have tunneled their way into our homes now.” She is shaken, loves her country, but will never feel safe anywhere again.

Think of that on your own kibbutz-type spread in New Mexico where you’re housing and doctoring all those cancer-stricken kids.

I’m asking where is your Lenny Bruce contrariness against a world that has fallen for depravity?

You were among the first to support gay rights. Admirable.

But there is only one country in the entire Middle East where gays are safe and that country is Israel.

Exactly here is where I thought I lost you. On the breaking news from Gaza you appeared to fault Israel, if partly, for an ongoing “mess” that seems impossible to fix.

Sure enough. There is a problem. I can’t go into all that here, so check out another one of our favorites, Mark Levin. Or, yes, Joan Rivers, bless her. I hope you’re not saying it’s always Israel and only Israel that faces crisis after crisis.  We’ve got plenty craziness going on here at home. Be careful judging Israel lest we be judged.

Have we ever fixed our crime problem here in the United States? Not nearly. On the same day when the Gaza story came up, nine people were murdered in Chicago. Three people, that same night, were murdered in Philadelphia. Altogether about 15,000 people are murdered each year in our own back yards. That too is a “mess.”

How about our race problem? Let’s not kid ourselves. We are as divided as ever. Nope, we can’t seem to fix this, either.

You got your own taste of what it’s like to be isolated and misunderstood. You got taken off the air. No need to go into details. But you were alone and in distress. The whole world was on your back.

Welcome to how it feels to be Jewish at the moment.
