The President Jeb Says he Would Emulate? LBJ. By Roger Stone
With Mitt Romney out, former Governor Jeb Bush is the new front runner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, as he tries for the third restoration of the House of Bush. Although his Florida backers assure us he governed as a conservative, Jeb actually has actually warned us that, like his brother George W. Bush, he would be a Big Government Republican.
Jeb Bush said the President he would most emulate is not his father, Bush 41 or Ronald Reagan but big government himself … Lyndon Baines Johnson! According to the Miami Herald in February of 2013, Jeb Bush told several hundred people at a St Leo University that, were he to become president, he would strive to be like LBJ. Putting aside LBJ’s lies to the American people about what was really happening in Vietnam, and the first government raid on the Social Security trust funds which was the first step towards the massive federal debt of today, LBJ’s expansion of the Welfare State under his ‘Great Society” programs started the entitlements bankrupting us today. Bush praised “LBJ’s strong, practical leadership”. This is Jeb’s role model?
Nor can Bush be counted on when it comes to taxes. George H.W. Bush won over grassroots conservatives in 1988 with his famous ‘Read my lips – no new taxes” pledge only to break that pledge at the urging of White House Chief of Staff John Sununu and Jim Baker Aide Dick Darman (who hated to be described that way.) A former Aide to Elliot Richardson, Darman worked against the Conservative agenda in the Reagan and Bush White Houses. Conservative author M. Stanton Evans correctly called the day Bush signed the tax increase “The end of Reaganism”. It planted the seeds of Bush’s defeat in 1992 . Yet Jeb defends the tax increase as, “the right thing to do”. Wrong.
Although Peter Baker of the New York Times tells us in a breathless page one story that “Jeb isn’t W.” In terms of personality type he’s correct. Jeb is his Mother’s son – entitled, arrogant and vindictive. As Michael Barbaro pointed out in the Times, Jeb masked his stridency and arrogance in his second bid for Governor but as S.V. Date showed his classic book “Jeb – America’s Next Bush” as Governor he was authorariatrian secretive, imperial and skirted the law. But on policy there is evidence that Jeb is W. Jeb never opposed expansion of the size and scope of Government, wild spending and mushrooming federal deficits. Jeb is gung-ho for the civil-liberties eroding Patriot Act and the failed War on Drugs.
On this latter point Sen. Rand Paul called Jeb out. After a Boston Globe interview where Bush spoke of his four years at the Phillips Academy prep school, said: “I drank and I smoked marijuana when I was at Andover,” going on to say such behavior was “pretty common” there. Paul pointed out that Bush wanted to put people in jail for what he himself had done. “I think that’s the real hypocrisy, is that people on our side, which include a lot of people who made mistakes growing up, admit their mistakes but now still want to put people in jail for that,” said Paul. Bush even opposed the drive for medical marijuana in Florida last year.
This is an example of ‘elite deviance,” is a condition sociologists say exists in a society when the elite of that society no longer believe that the rules apply…to them. “It is not due primarily to psychopathological variables, but to the institutionalization of elite wrongdoing,” said Professor David Simon in his landmark book “Elite Deviance”. Elite deviance is a phenomenon in which those with enough wealth, political influence and personal connections can immunize themselves from the consequences for illegal acts that in the rest of the lowly world would bring severe, if not life-ending, repercussions. Jeb is nothing if not a elitist.
Together Bush 41 and Bush 43 are responsible for 72% of our massive Federal debt. Big Government man Jeb is more of the same.
