Karin McQuillan The White Field Spells Disaster for Democrats The Democratic Left is losing the black vote. The paradigm-bashing President Trump is going all-out to win it.
The takeaway from the Democrats’ 2020 field of white politicians is right in front of us. Black Democrats have become less racist, and young Democrats have become more radical.
No one backed the black candidates, not even black voters. Most black voters are not buying woke politics, not from Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), not from Cory Booker (D-N.J.), not from anybody. This presents an opening for President Trump.
There are more black primary voters this year than ever before. They could have turned Harris or Booker into leading contenders. Instead, they chose the old white guy. This is change.
Racial identity alone was a ticket to nowhere. Harris went nuclear and called Joe Biden a racist and all she got was a lousy three-day blip.
It’s the black voters’ choice, but the all-white field is still bad news for Democrats. Very bad news. It is a shocking image. From the first black president to this? Democrats are terrified that too many blacks will stay home on Election Day. That’s more good news for Trump.
The Democrats’ problem goes beyond optics. The white stage undercuts Democrats’ race-baiting. This is not trivial. Muddying Republicans up with accusations of racism is the Democrats’ greatest unifying tool. It justifies their blacklisting, shunning, and mobbing of conservatives. Few Democrats have the guts to reject groupthink and risk being canceled by their liberal social circle—you will lose friends, family, and even your career. Race-baiting enforces Democrat loyalty among blacks and white liberals alike.
The political implications are worse than that for Dems.
Look a bit deeper into black voter’s preferred choice in this cycle. Former Vice President Joe Biden is the one familiar candidate who is not a left-wing radical. His association with Barack Obama is enough for black supporters to feel comfortable with him; he doesn’t have to be black himself.
The reasons for black discontent with all the other candidates are rooted in those candidates’ fundamental anti-American vision. That is what bodes so well for President Trump.
Biden is an old-fashioned bring-home-the-pork kind of guy. He is obviously phony when he pushes identity politics. His black supporters are no more ready for the new world of Marxism and LBGTQ than Biden is.
The Democrats’ base of white union voters were the first to jump ship and join President Trump. They finally understood that their former party’s globalism and global warming alarmism were killing their jobs and communities.
Four years later, a significant number of blacks appear to be following the same road out of the party. President Trump is one big wake-up call to the destructiveness of the liberal agenda on black jobs and communities.
Bread and butter issues are leading more and more Democrats right into Trump’s camp. Growing percentages of his rally enthusiasts are Democrats and independents: 58 percent in Wisconsin, 43 percent in Ohio, 20 percent in Pennsylvania, 17 percent in blue Michigan. In Pennsylvania, 18 percent were minorities. In Mississippi, 27 percent of Trump rally-goers were self-identified Democrats and 20 percent were black.
This is a game-changer. It reflects Trump’s enormous successes with the economy, energy, and trade. It is also solidly based on long-term changes in the two parties.
The seizure of the Democratic Party by progressives was fueled by activists using social media to bypass traditional Democrat voting blocks. Women, LGBTQ people, and Marxists are using Twitter and Facebook to fundraise and recruit. They don’t need the black vote anymore.
Blacks are being pushed aside as socialists, women, and gays move to head of the line to claim their prize of the nomination. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg have worse than zero appeal for many black voters.
The face of the Democratic Party’s future is Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez backed by two angry Muslim women. Blacks get nothing from this socialist-jihadi alliance. Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) endorsed Bernie Sanders, not the black candidates.
The Squad is all women. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), the group’s only African American, represents the progressive voters of Cambridge and Boston. The first four issues on her web page are LGBTQ+ rights, equity for marginalized communities around the world, rape and homophobic violence, and rights for transgender women.
Young black and white men are outnumbered by the progressive black and white women and Hispanics who dominate their age group. Woke Millennials prefer Sanders. They don’t care about Sanders’ poor record on racial issues. These young radicals are a majority in the primary. They can’t deliver the 90 percent black voting bloc Democrats need to win.
It’s telling that it was a black congresswoman, Brenda Lawrence from Detroit, who argued publicly against impeaching President Trump. She told an interviewer over the summer, “Sitting here, knowing how divided this country is, I don’t see the value of taking him out of office.”
She must have been getting an earful from her black constituents back home. Reportedly, blacks don’t like the whole lynching vibe of the Democratic Party.
President Trump is confident he can create a winning coalition with blacks. Instead of victimhood, he is selling them success in life—and delivering. He is bringing jobs and wage hikes, incarceration reform and protection of the unborn, safer communities and school choice. Polls show 30 percent of blacks approve of the president. All he needs is 15 percent of black voters in the swing states and Trump is golden.
All the Democrats have on offer are racial fears and anger, payoffs and promises, broken families, broken communities, and the loss of self-respect.
The Democratic Left is losing the black vote.
The paradigm-bashing President Trump is going all-out to win it.
