Democrats Now Stand For The Exact Opposite Of The Declaration Of Independence George Rasley

Saturday marks Independence Day 2020, and as we always should on this commemoration of the American founding, we ought to take a look at where the country stands 244 years after the announcement that Americans would fight to live as free men and women, rather than remain the subjects of a despotic government.
The American Declaration of Independence is one of the most profound documents of western civilization. Yet its measured case for humankind’s inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness might be as little known as the science of the Aztecs were it not for the feats of arms and sacrifices of America’s first veterans – the few thousand patriots who made-up the Continental Army.
For constitutional conservatives like us, the words of the Framers of the Constitution are so very important because they define the limits on government power. However, we here at CHQ have a special admiration for those daring patriots who declared our independence and risked all to establish the first and only nation dedicated to preserving the sovereignty of the individual human spirit.
And it is important to remember that the patriots who fought our Revolution didn’t fight for the Constitution; they fought for the Declaration of Independence and a unique “pre-Constitution” revolutionary vision of individual liberty.
When the elected delegates went off to the Continental Congress to represent the people of the 13 colonies, and eventually to sign the Declaration of Independence, everyone in America was a “subject.” However, alive in the hearts of those “subjects” who were delegates to the Continental Congress was a unique vision; a vision of life without kings, where each human being is himself sovereign before God.
The Declaration of Independence recognizes and claims on behalf of all mankind that the inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness don’t come from a government, they flow from the divine to the individual.
This patriot vision, found in the Declaration of Independence, articulates our national creed and is the very foundation of American exceptionalism – in it we are truly unique in the annals of time, but its success was not foreordained.
A mere two months after the Declaration of Independence was ratified, the British Redcoats defeated George Washington’s army in the Battle of Long Island and Washington’s tiny army would be forced to escape into the night – the first of many times that a small group of men, struggling for their lives, was all that stood between the idea of the sovereign individual and the reality of being a subject.
Today, the liberty of Americans is once again threatened, this time by those who profess the ideology of the new Democrat Party – whose ideas and policies are almost the polar opposite of those expressed in the Declaration of Independence.
Consider that in the Declaration of Independence our patriot Founders opposed confiscatory taxes and the expropriation of private property, they opposed a regime that rendered their legislative bodies impotent, they opposed arbitrary non-jury trials, they opposed a regime that “burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people,” they opposed a regime that “excited domestic insurrections amongst us,” they opposed a regulatory state that “sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance,” they opposed a regime that tried Americans “for pretended offences,” and more generally for abolishing their Common Law rights and privileges.
And now consider that today, Democrats are committing the same depredations against American citizens: They want a 70 percent or higher tax rate, they plan a “Green New Deal” and many other acts that would confiscate private property, they have all but shutdown Congress, they have created a whole system of extra-judicial administrative courts to try Americans for fabricated “hate crimes” and other newly created offenses, they have attacked and attempted to prohibit the free exercise of religion, they have loosed violent mobs to loot, burn and occupy private property in our cities, they have suspended, restricted and criminalized the natural right to self-defense and the right to keep and bear arms, they have created and plan to expand a regulatory state that envisions controlling virtually every aspect of American life, from the use of private property to the serving size of your food, they’ve created and plan to expand an army of bureaucrats, inspectors and contact tracers to implement those regulations, and to prevent you from objecting or organizing opposition to them they have enlisted private corporations and obscure government agencies to prevent you from speaking freely and to punish you if you do.
Today, all that stands between that oppressive new Democrat vision for America and the liberty Americans seized through the Declaration of Independence is a small ragtag band of patriots battling the forces of oppression. Those patriots are police officers, a few Members of Congress and other elected officials, citizens like St. Louis property owners Mark and Patricia McCloskey, Michigan barber Karl Manke and New Jersey gym owners Ian Smith and Frank Trumbetti, courageous journalists like Andy Ngo, Tucker Carlson, Mollie Hemingway and Sarah Carter, lawyers like Sidney Powell, and thousands of grassroots political activists like Scott Pressler, Becky Garritson, Adam De Agneli, Rose Marie Denton and Kim Pagan.
This Independence Day weekend, we urge CHQ readers and friends to take the time to read the Declaration of Independence and to quietly ponder its meaning and application to the state of our Nation today. And then we urge you to, as the signers of the Declaration did 244 years ago, pledge your life, your fortune and your sacred honor, and in the face of the unprecedented challenges we face today, to do whatever it takes to make sure the rights and values expressed in the Declaration of Independence are preserved and passed on to future generations of Americans.
