The cultural revolution decimating academia and turning it into a hollow shell for radical indoctrination only grows more crudely shameless with each cycle.

It’s not enough to just jettison Shakespeare or rename buildings. No, you will only be allowed to work with Black Studies.

A memo from what used to be the University of Chicago English Department.

For the 2020-2021 graduate admissions cycle, the University of Chicago English Department is accepting only applicants interested in working in and with Black Studies. We understand Black Studies to be a capacious intellectual project that spans a variety of methodological approaches, fields, geographical areas, languages, and time periods.

Considering U of C’s influence in this area, that’s significant.

Anything that’s not Black Studies is not allowed. Every department will soon have to be a Black Studies department at this rate.

Academic freedom used to mean exploring a broad range of ideas. But the range of ideas and the people allowed to engage with them are shrinking to the microscopic size of the ideologies, political and racial, that are riding academia like a dying horse.

The English Department’s introduction begins with the claim that, “our coverage of chronological fields extends from the medieval era to the twenty-first century” only to dispose of the medieval part entirely, and focus on a thin slice of black nationalist and anti-American tracts from the 20th century and the last two decades.

How long until they start burning actual books?
