Fauci Admits It: Trump Was Right About ‘Living With’ COVID

Donald Trump, Oct. 21, 2020: “We’re learning to live with it. We have no choice.”
Anthony Fauci, Nov. 28, 2021: “We’re going to have to start living with COVID.”
How many times did former President Donald Trump say something that was dismissed as reckless, heartless, stupid, or flat-out wrong only to find out later that he was right? Whatever the number is, add one more.
Over the weekend, Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden, admitted that “we’re going to have to start living with COVID. I believe that’s the case because I don’t think we’re going to eradicate it.”
Fauci’s comment came amid rising cases in the U.S. and the new “Omicron” variant that has been spreading in South Africa and is apparently more resistant to vaccines. The World Health Organization declared Omicron as a “variant of concern,” and Fauci said it will likely land here.
But wait. Why would Fauci say that we have to start learning to live with COVID?
After all, Joe “Trust-the-Science” Biden said that “I will take care of this. I will end this. I will make sure we have a plan.”
Oops.
That was what Biden said in October 2020. Lately, he’s been silent about what his “plan” is “to end this,” or why the country just came through a COVID spike in the summer and appears headed to a bigger one this winter.
The number of COVID deaths under Biden is fast approaching the death toll while Trump was president. That’s despite the presence of three vaccines that were miraculously announced right after the November 2020 election, plus trillions of dollars for Biden’s “plan.”
So, Fauci is finally admitting that trying to force everyone to be vaccinated won’t “end this.” Nor will whatever other punitive measures the “public health community” dictates. There is no “ending this” and we are going to have to learn to live with it.
Which, as it turns out, is exactly what Trump said more than a year ago.
During the final presidential debate on Oct. 21, 2020, Biden was berating Trump for saying that COVID would be over soon.
Trump’s response was: “I didn’t say over soon. I say we’re learning to live with it. We have no choice.”
To which Biden shot back: “People are learning to die with it.”
(Biden also said in the same debate that “there’s no prospect that there’s going to be a vaccine available for the majority of the American people before the middle of next year.”)
Trump was then subjected to a tidal wave of mockery and derision for his defeatist attitude.
Of course, Trump said a lot of things, often conflicting, sometimes wrong, about COVID. For that matter, so did Fauci and Biden. (Biden was also dead, dead, dead wrong about the timing of the vaccine.)
Still, on the “learn to live with it” score, Trump had it exactly right, and he was well ahead of the Faucis of the world who tried to convince the public that if everybody stayed home, kept 6 feet apart, avoided crowds, wore masks, and got vaccinated that we could “end this.”
Will Biden ever admit that Trump was right? Of course not. Plus, continuing the fiction that we can “end this” gives Biden and other leftists leverage to impose ever more draconian restrictions and mandates. As long as the public thinks those measures will “end this,” it’s more likely to comply.
So, it’s up to the public to take Trump’s (and now Fauci’s) admission to heart. COVID isn’t ever going away. We can cower in the basement, dutifully comply with ridiculous mask requirements and intrusive vaccine mandates, and submit to pointless shutdowns.
Or we can do what Trump advised way back when. Act like adults, use common sense, and learn to live with COVID.
