This summer marks 20 years since an Illinois state senator calling himself Barack Obama delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention. This year’s DNC confirms that the more accurate designation is DSM – the Dictatorship of the Subjunctive Mood now spreading reality dysphoria across America.
The Illinois senator told the nation his father was a Kenyan goatherd who went to school in a tin-roof shack. He rode that story into the US senate and in 2008 ran for president, promising a fundamental transformation of the United States of America. In the 2017 Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama, David Garrow confirmed what others had already revealed, that the vaunted Dreams from My Father was a novel, not an autobiography or memoir, and the author a “composite character,” one of the numerous fakes on the political scene.
Under DSM, a politician can make false claims with little if any challenge from the establishment media. For example, Sen. Elizabeth Warren built a career on the false claim that she was a Cherokee Indian. The honorable course would be to resign but the Massachusetts Democrat went on to run for president.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal claimed he served in Vietnam, a claim that was exposed as false by the New York Times. That prompted no resignation from the Connecticut Democrat, who in 2017 demanded that Trump attorney general pick Jeff Sessions return an award from the David Horowitz Freedom Center. Consider also Delaware Democrat Joe Biden.
Even hagiographical hooey like Mark Bowden’s 2010 “The Salesman” outed Biden as a poor student and semi-literate plagiarist. Biden did better as a serial prevaricator, falsely claiming that his first wife was killed by a drunk driver, that his son Beau was killed in Iraq, that he acted as a liaison for Golda Meir during the Six Day War, and so on. Such fakery made Biden a natural choice for the composite character.
As vice president, Biden “got China” and the “Big Guy” ran the business operations through son Hunter, dealings now coming to light in more detail. Biden also had leverage with Ukraine, using his power to get a prosecutor fired. In classic corrupt style, the Delaware Democrat used the power of his office to enrich himself and his family.
By 2020, the plagiarist-prevaricator was unsure of his own location and prone to sudden falls. Biden served up word salads with no vinaigrette, shrill glossolalia that could have only one interpretation: his never-sharp mind was pretty much shot. Yet Biden got the call to go up against Trump.
Biden openly touted “the most extensive and inclusive system of voter fraud organization in the history of American politics.” He bunkered down in his basement and failed to campaign, but as the DSM has it, Biden won fair and square, in the fairest election in American history. As he confirmed on his first day, the Delaware Democrat was basically an autopen for the woke-leftist-globalist junta now calling the shots.
Biden signed away the border, energy independence and a sound economy. Inflation soared high, but like Voltaire’s Dr. Pangloss, Biden told the people they lived in the best of all possible worlds. Biden gave away billions in military gear to the Taliban and claimed the operation was an “extraordinary success.”
In 2019, Biden said the Chinese Communists were “not bad folks” and not even competition for the United States. In 2023, Biden let the Communist regime fly a surveillance balloon over the nation, including military bases. According to coincidence theory, this had nothing to do with the business deals conducted through Hunter, and under DSM there was no possibility of harm to national security.
Despite the damage, at home and abroad, the Democrats stood by their man going into the June debate with Trump. That session put Biden’s dysfunctionality on full display but under DSM he was still, as establishment media endlessly repeated, “sharp as a tack.” Except he wasn’t.
In what Maureen Dowd of the New York Times called a “coup,” and a “jaw-dropping putsch,” powerful Democrats booted Biden for Kamala Harris. She never prevailed in a primary, but there was more to the woman who got her start under Willie Brown.
As California attorney general, Harris failed to name a single victim of the December 2, 2015 terrorist attack in San Bernardino. On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Biden’s vice president failed to name a single victim of Flight 93, and focused on Sikh and Muslim Americans allegedly “targeted because of how they looked or how they worshipped.” With the border wide open on Czar Kamala’s watch, Islamic terrorists are much better off than they were four years ago.
Word-salad master Kamala Harris now rivals Biden in defiance of satire, but her ignorance and incompetence are no cause for alarm. Under the Dictatorship of the Subjunctive Mood, ancestry in Jamaica and India are the best qualifications for the most demanding job in the world.
Kamala Harris would serve up a fourth term for the composite character who addressed the DNC 20 years ago. As Tablet’s David Samuels explained last year, that character is responsible for “the disaster that we are living through now.” In 2024 moving forward, it’s all about memory against forgetting.
