Saudi Arabia is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into Islamist groups in the Balkans to spread hatred of the West and recruit fighters for jihad in Afghanistan.

Strict factions funded by Saudi organizations are clashing with traditionally moderate local Muslim communities in Macedonia. Fundamentalists have financed the construction of scores of mosques and community centers, hand some followers up to $335 a month and persuade women to wear veils, a custom virtually unknown in the Balkans.
