Something to Think About Shoshana Bryen

https://www.jns.org/opinion/something-to-think-about/

The Jewish Policy Center doesn’t/can’t/doesn’t want to tell people what to do. We do, however, write about both foreign and domestic policy to encourage people to think about what to do – and our members are quite clear about what they think. We posted an article about the possibility of Chinese mayhem near, but not directly against, Taiwan. We thought it was useful for determining how to think about China, the U.S. defense budget, and American policy in the Pacific. A member very pointedly said we were foolishly missing a “historic moment” by writing about China. OK. So, I went back to our library and with the help of some outside sources put together a list of things to think about at this “historic moment.” It is not – nor is it meant to be – exhaustive.

We currently have the first president since Dwight D. Eisenhower that has not engaged us in a foreign war or new foreign peacekeeping. The Abraham Accords were done without the promise of American money or U.S. troops as “monitors.” (Remember President Clinton offering to put American soldiers in Syria to monitor an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights? How would that have worked when Syria and Iran decimated the country and dropped chemical weapons on Syrian civilians with Russian help?) This has allowed the U.S. to focus on broad defense of the global commons, not being involved in other people’s civil or border wars. (Hence the determination to leave Afghanistan.) Except for the appropriate punishment of Syria for using those chemicals, and the destruction of the territorial base of the ISIS caliphate.

The focus of Middle East peacemaking changed from requiring Israel to pay the Palestinians in the currency of statehood (“risks for peace”) to a request that the Arab States consider the economic and security needs of their own people in deciding whether and how to approach the State of Israel. The result is the Abraham Accords, broadly accepted by countries that have not signed; a new compact with Jordan; and feelers from other countries. The United States abandoned the untenable position of “neutral party” between Israel, which is our democratic ally, and the Palestinian Authority, which is not. The U.S. has moved to a position of honest broker, which is vastly more appropriate. U.S.-Israel security cooperation, grounded in our commonality, continues through the pandemic.

Don’t let ’em scare you to death

Don’t let ’em scare you to death

Get ready for the mother of all scare campaigns from Democrats and their media allies the next two weeks. They’ll tell you the coronavirus is on the rampage and it’s all President Trump’s fault.

But, before we fall for the fearmongering of Joe Biden’s “dark winter,” it’s worth noting that the CDC says flu numbers are down 95 percent. Have masks stopped it, or are flu symptoms being conflated with COVID-19?

Secondly, the University of Washington model used to forecast impending doom has been getting it drastically wrong since March. Finally, the mortality rate for COVID-19 patients is plummeting as better treatments appear. One study of 5,000 patients in the NYU Langone Health system, to be published in the Journal of Hospital Medicine, finds death rates between March and August dropped 18 percentage points, even for the elderly.

Be not afraid. Be sensible.

Media’s Burisma myth

Among the most stubborn myths around the Burisma scandal is that Ukraine’s top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, was not investigating the corrupt energy company at the time Joe Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion in aid unless he was fired.

The Washington Post repeated the false claim last week.

But contemporaneous news sources from Ukraine show that Shokin was aggressively pursuing Burisma in 2016, while it was paying the then-vice president’s wayward son, Hunter Biden, more than $80,000 a month to sit on its board.

On Feb. 4, 2016, Interfax-Ukraine reported that Prosecutor-General Shokin had seized property belonging to Hunter’s boss, Burisma owner Mykola Zlochevsky, including four large houses, two plots of land and “a Rolls-Royce Phantom car.” The National Radio Co. of Ukraine reported the same.

Eight days later, Joe Biden phoned Ukraine’s president, Petro Poroshenko.

Four days after the call, Shokin was fired, although it took another month for the Ukrainian parliament to ratify his ousting.

Hospitals gave Gov. Andrew Cuomo a campaign booster shot: By Miranda Devine

https://nypost.com/2020/10/25/hospitals-gave-gov-andrew-cuomo-a-campaign-boos

It’s bad enough that Gov. Cuomo presided over the needless COVID-19 deaths of thousands of vulnerable people in New York nursing homes.

It’s bad enough that he wrote a shameful book praising himself for his pandemic response and now is doing a victory lap of self-congratulation in the worst-hit state in the nation.

It’s bad enough that he is mounting a pre-election scare campaign on COVID vaccines to stir up anti-vax sentiment for political purposes.

But now we discover that Cuomo got campaign funds from the hospital organizations that lobbied for his lethal policy for the elderly and which then bought TV ads whitewashing his culpability.

An exclusive audit of campaign donations to Cuomo by OpenTheBooks.com shows disturbing links with industry bodies which demanded the disastrous order forcing nursing homes to admit COVID-infected patients hospitals didn’t want.

Overall, the audit shows a “systematic pay-to-play culture in Albany,” says Adam Andrzejewski, CEO of OpenTheBooks.com, a nonprofit which has compiled a comprehensive database of US public sector expenditures.

The pattern of patronage in New York state amounts to “a legalized money-laundering scheme aimed at monetizing incumbent political power.”

Cuomo has received $6.2 million since 2014 from 347 companies who then made $7 billion from state contracts.

Biden Corruption: The Avalanche Continues  Francis Menton

https://www.manhattancontrarian.com/blog/2020-10-25-biden-corruption-the-avala

As we get closer to the election, it’s beginning to appear that the corruption of Joe Biden via his son Hunter knows no bounds. You may have thought that my post just two days ago contained enough to sink any possible presidential candidacy; but there is plenty of new information in just the two days since. Most of the new information concerns efforts of the Chinese government and CCP to compromise the Bidens through influence investments.

Meanwhile, the media continue to make laughingstocks of themselves with their futile efforts at suppression of the story.

Here are a few examples of newly revealed instances of Biden corruption:

Peter Schweizer has been at the forefront of many of the revelations. In a piece at Breitbart on October 23, he has come up with yet another non-anonymous source, a former Hunter Biden business partner named Bevan Cooney, now serving time in prison for a separate scam. Cooney has turned over to Schweizer a trove of some thousands of emails and texts. Among the transactions brought to light by the new emails is a September 2015 acquisition of a strategically-sensitive Michigan manufacturer by Hunter Biden’s private equity fund, with the investment money coming from Chinese government/CCP entities. The transaction required U.S. government approval. Yes, Joe Biden was Vice President at the time. Schweizer:

In September 2015, the Obama-Biden administration approved the sale of a strategically sensitive Michigan manufacturer, Henniges Automotive, to a firm connected to Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, and a Chinese military contractor that was on an American watch list because of its close ties to the People’s Liberation Army. Hunter Biden’s equity fund, backed by the Communist Chinese government, and the Chinese contractor, Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC), needed special approval for the deal from the Committee of Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS) because Henniges produced technology with potential military use.

Family describes horror as violent maskless rioters throw rocks, attack ‘Jews for Trump’ convoy

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/anti-protesters-attack-jews-trump-vehicle-convoy-new-york

The show of support descended into chaos as scuffles broke out between protesters and Trump supporters

A family of seven ‒ including four kids ‒ were pepper-sprayed by violent rioters on Sunday while participating in a “Jews For Trump” rally in New York City.

A spokesperson for the New York Police Department said 11 people were taken into custody after the rally descended into chaos and violence Sunday afternoon. Six people were charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction of government administration and harassment, while a seventh person was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, the NYPD said Monday.

A convoy of hundreds of cars draped with American flags and “Trump 2020” banners rolled slowly through Manhattan and Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon. The caravan traveled from Coney Island to the Trump Tower in Manhattan before heading to a rally in a Brooklyn park.

At some point, skirmishes broke out between supporters and opponents of the president.

A member of the family that was pepper-sprayed told Fox News that the unprovoked attack happened while the family was driving down Fifth Avenue with the car windows down and Trump flags displayed.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous fearing his family could be targeted, said a car pulled up next to them and unleashed pepper spray into their vehicle.

Could Justice Barrett and the Court Surprise Us?

https://www.nysun.com/editorials/could-justice-barrett-and-the-court-surprise-us/91316/

The Senate’s confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett as a justice of the Supreme Court reminds us of President Trump’s decision to move our embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. The opponents, in their predictions of war and mayhem and riots on the Arab street, were almost Schumerian. In the event, though, what happened was the opposite. Mr. Trump’s sticking by his Jerusalem promise has ushered in a new burst of peace making.

Could that be what follows from his, and Senator McConnell’s, success in delivering the conservative majority he promised for the court? It would be imprudent to discount entirely the possibility that it will end in tears. It could also be imprudent, though, to rule out a more optimistic outcome — in which a conservative majority on the court enables us now to resolve some of the feuds that have festered for years.

It’s not just the Affordable Care Act, on which the Democrats directed so much of their fury over the course of Justice Barrett’s confirmation hearing. It’s not just the question of abortion, on which much of the country is still bitterly divided, though Roe is nearing 50 years. Nor the battle over the Second Amendment, which has divided our states. It is suddenly possible to imagine the court breaking all sorts of stalemates.

NYC health inspectors visit empty yeshiva and write summons NYC Health Department filmed writing summons to empty Yeshiva building, citing ‘list’ to justify procedure. Mordechai Sones

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/289918

A New York City Health Department was filmed writing a summons to an empty yeshiva building, citing a “list” to justify the procedure.

Video circulating on social media shows two inspectors visiting Yeshivat Shaare Torah on Coney Island Avenue in the Midwood section of Brooklyn, an area decreed to be a “red zone” by NY Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The yeshiva Director asked the inspectors why they were writing a summons if the building was vacant, excepting staff members performing essential tasks. The inspectors were invited inside the building and offered to look anywhere they wanted, and scrutinize any room or floor of the building they suspected of sheltering decree-violators.

When pressed to explain the procedure, the female inspector appeared to become flustered, asked not to be recorded, and concealed her badge from the camera. The only statutory justification for the executive procedure the inspector offered was to state, “we have a list”.

Yeshiva World News claims to be in possession of evidence that multiple yeshivas that were closed received fines in the past two weeks.

YWN contacted Deputy Assistant Attorney General Melinda Rogers to respond to the incident. She did not immediately comment on YWN’s query.

Why Does Barr Let Wray Lie and Flout the Law? by Chris Farrell

https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/16691/barr-wray

The Wray FBI is acting in a disgracefully dishonest manner, and the attorneys of the Barr Justice Department are the advocates peddling this nonsense in federal courts. Here is what your government says it can do: Delete and keep secret all text messages – including those by the dirty cops running an illicit coup against President Trump…. AG Barr accepts it all and takes no action.

Ask yourself why AG Barr fights Judicial Watch in virtually every FOIA lawsuit seeking records over the Obamagate coup plot. Why does he permit the FBI to claim in court that their agents’ text messages on their government phones are not government records? That’s insultingly preposterous – but it is the Justice Department’s position. Your tax dollars in action.

The past Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Rick Grenell, seemed to make some headway. Now DNI John Ratcliffe has moved the ball down the field a few more yards. Should President Trump be re-elected, the time will have come to break some china and flip over some tables at the FBI and Justice. Hopefully, President Trump will then show people what a “disruptor” truly looks like.

One is supposed to believe that Attorney General William Barr is in charge of the Department of Justice, and that FBI Director Christopher Wray works for Barr. Both men purportedly work for President Donald J. Trump. President Trump has been very clear about his desire and directives to declassify and release all materials related to the “Russia!” hoax. The President is consistently ignored by his staff.

Judicial Watch submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request on February 16, 2018, to the FBI. It sought text messages sent from January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2015, between FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and FBI attorney Lisa Page, FBI Special Agent Jennifer Leonard, FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok, and/or Obama administration Homeland Security Advisor Lisa Monaco. In response, the FBI denied the request, asserting (incredibly) that text messages are not subject to FOIA.

Judicial Watch challenged the FBI’s determination. It filed an administrative appeal with the Department of Justice arguing that “text messages involving government-related business sent between government officials, whom all of the persons identified in the scope of the request are, do in fact constitute government records that fall within the purview of FOIA.” [Emphasis added]

Schweizer: Hunter Biden Participated ‘in Chinese Efforts to Acquire Western Technology’

https://www.breitbart.com/clips/2020/10/25/schweizer-hunter-biden-participated-in-chinese-efforts-to-acquire-western-technology/

Breitbart News senior contributor Peter Schweizer said on Sunday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures” that the story not getting covered was “about Hunter Biden participating in Chinese efforts to acquire western technology.”

Bartiromo asked, “Let me ask you about [Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States] and the approval that a foreigner needs in order to do an acquisition in the United States. That’s one of the things that you’ve reported on that these Chinese companies needed, right? They wanted the influence of Joe Biden so that they could get approval to acquire companies. This is what Donald Trump has been trying to put an end to, China coming into the U.S., buying up Silicon Valley and forcing the transfer of technology, giving the Chinese Communist Party a leg up on American technology.”

Schweizer said, “You’re exactly right, Maria, and this is a big part, I think, of the missed story. This is not just a story about Hunter Biden and the family getting wealthy. It’s about Hunter Biden participating in Chinese efforts to acquire western technology. In particular, for example, there’s a company called Henniges out of Michigan that produces dual-use technologies that they have both military and civilian application, and they are anti-vibration technologies. Hunter Biden’s Chinese-funded investment firm partnered with AVIC, which is the largest military contractor in China, and they, together, acquired Henniges, this dual-use technology company in Michigan. It has clear military application.”

Christiane Amanpour Gives The Game Away On Media Blackout Of Biden Scandal

https://issuesinsights.com/2020/10/26/christiane-amanpour-gives-the-game-away-on-media-blackout-of-biden-scandal/

Anyone who is still clinging to the notion that the mainstream press isn’t a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democratic Party needs to watch the exchange between premier journalist Christiane Amanpour and Republican National Committee spokeswoman Liz Harrington.

As the troubling Hunter Biden story has developed, the press’ reasons for not covering it shifted. At first, the media said they wouldn’t cover it because the veracity of the laptop and the smoking gun emails hadn’t been “verified” and speculated that it was all part of another Russian effort to get Trump elected.

After the authenticity of the laptop and at least some of the most damaging emails and texts were shown to be legitimate, and after the attempt to portray it as a Russian hoax was demolished, the press decided that it wasn’t a big enough scandal to warrant coverage, that it was just “a distraction.”

Asked about NPR’s lack of coverage of the scandal, for example, NPR Managing Editor for News Terence Samuel, said that “We don’t want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories, and we don’t want to waste the listeners’ and readers’ time on stories that are just pure distractions. And quite frankly, that’s where we ended up, this was … a politically driven event and we decided to treat it that way.”

(Websters should add this definition to “distraction” – n: in media parlance, a scandal that involves a Democratic politician.)

National Review had it almost right when it said in an editorial that “Too many journalists seem to live in terror of being blamed for reporting stories that might influence voters to reelect Donald Trump.”
