“Rabbi Obama” And The Shame Brought By Leaders of Conservative Judaism

Yesterday afternoon President Obama and White House Chief of Staff Jack “Hey I’m Jewish and Love Obama” Lew met with leaders of the Conservative Jewish movement. That’s Conservative Judaism, not conservative politically. The leadership of Conservative Judaism, as well as much of the rabbinate is progressive politically.

For example, you may remember last year when two leading conservative and 398 other Rabbis broke Jewish law when they joined a socialist-oriented organization in a politically based (and false) attack on Glenn Beck.

The reason for the meeting was for the president to shore up a voting block which has already cut way back on donations and may vote for him to a lesser extent than they did in 2008 (Obama will most definitely win the Jewish vote in 2012 but even the most liberal based polls project him reviving much less than the 78% he garnered in 2008).

Now, he said, the Republicans are trying to portray him as not being supportive of Israel by stressing the fact that his father was Muslim and he has a Muslim name, as well as by claiming that he had been overly aggressive in pushing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to promote the peace process with the Palestinian

Texas GOP Senate primary heads to runoff

(CNN) – A boiling primary battle in Texas headed to a runoff early Wednesday as two Republicans running for U.S. Senate failed to reach the 50% threshold to clinch the GOP nomination.

Though Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst led the crowded field of candidates, he narrowly failed to cross the 50% mark required to secure the nomination and avoid a July 31 runoff.
Dewhurst’s challenger in the runoff will be tea party favorite Ted Cruz, a former solicitor general with strong support from national groups and high-profile conservative leaders.

I was struck by your support of Ted Cruz over David Dewhurst
in the Texas primary.Although it is unfortunately the case that we can never be sure of the
reliability of politicians, I want to point out to you that David Dewhurst has been a Vice President of Jinsa for about 20 years, and I
have known him for about 17 of those years. His commitment to Israel related issues has been informed and steadfast and he made a point of remaining on Jinsa’s board even after being elected Lt. Governor of
Texas. He is also a significant financial contributor to Jinsa and has been for many years.

I know that Cruz is very appealing, and I like what I know about him, and I also am aware that he has been endorsed by a long list of
conservative figures including Sarah Palin and Sen. DeMint. Dewhurst has been supported by Tom Neumann, emeritus Exec. Dir of JInsa, and a
long list of Israel activists. The only “negative” I know is that Dewhurst will be 67 in August and Cruz is in his early forties so he
has many more years of service ahead of him. However, to the extent that Israel is a major issue – and it is for you and me – Dewhurst is
about as good as it gets based on commitment and performance over the past twenty years.

I just wanted to call this to your attention. I’m rooting for Dewhurst – Cruz will have plenty of opportunities later; he may or may
not be as good as Dewhurst on Israel, but for me Dewhurst is a known quantity and excellent on the subjects of both Israel and U.S. Defense
issues.

U.N. International Telecommunications Union: Flame virus is the most powerful espionage tool ever to target countries • Iranians blame Israel, admit their computers have been affected • “Unfortunately, the Israelis are very powerful in the field of IT.”

Iran on Tuesday admitted that the computers of high-ranking officials had been attacked by a software virus and accused Israel of responsibility for cyberattacks on Iranian computer systems by means of the Flame malware.

The admission came as the U.N. agency responsible for regulating the internet warned that the Flame virus is the most powerful espionage tool ever to target countries.

This is the most serious warning we have ever put out,” said Marco Obiso, cybersecurity coordinator for the U.N.’s Geneva-based International Telecommunications Union.

The formal warning will tell member nations that the Flame virus is a dangerous espionage tool that could potentially be used to attack critical infrastructure, he said. “They should be on alert.” The warning is the latest signal that a new era of cyberwarfare has begun following the 2010 Stuxnet virus attack that targeted Iranian nuclear installation computers.

He said the ITU would set up a program to collect data, including virus samples, to track Flame’s spread around the globe and observe any changes in its composition.

Moscow-based Kaspersky Lab ZAO said the Flame virus was unprecedented both in terms of its size and complexity, possessing the ability to turn infected computers into all-purpose spying machines that can even suck information out of nearby cell phones. On its blog, Kaspersky called Flame “the most sophisticated cyberweapon yet unleashed.”

Is there anything left for the anti-Israel (supposedly Palestinian-supporting) boycott organisations to boycott? In recent days, their target has been Israel’s national theatre company, Habima.Habima actively promotes Israeli-Palestinian dialogue and co-operation through its ongoing projects and has an Arab-Israeli theatre in Jaffa, so you would imagine it would pass the boycott filter.

But no, Habima’s unforgivable sin was to accept an invitation to play in Ariel – an “illegal settlement” built on “stolen Palestinian land”. Some Israeli theatre professionals had declared they would not play in Ariel or other settlements and so Habima now has pariah status in the international BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) community.

Shakespeare’s Globe theatre in London invited Habima to perform here in London as part of their “Globe to Globe” festival; 37 plays in 37 languages, including the Palestinian Ashtar company playing Richard II and Habima playing The Merchant of Venice (apposite, we suppose)!

Again, you would think the balance of both companies performing would be good enough, but, again, no. The Globe had the courage to resist boycott calls by David Calder, Trevor Griffiths, Jonathan Miller, Emma Thompson and other British thespians in March this year and Habima has just played to a sell-out house.

It’s why the young black Democratic mayor of Newark, N.J., Cory Booker, got high-level repudiation from the Barack Obama campaign, including from the president himself, when he insolently suggested that Bain Capital, the investment firm once headed by GOP nominee-apparent Mitt Romney, might actually do positive things.

Booker, an Obama campaign surrogate, went off script on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday when he refused to justify a campaign attack ad depicting the evils of Bain. “I’m not about to sit here and indict private equity,” he said. “To me, it’s just we’re getting to a ridiculous point in America, especially that I know I live in a state where pension funds, unions and other people are investing in companies like Bain Capital. If you look at the totality of Bain Capital’s record, they’ve done a lot to support businesses, to grow businesses.”

After campaign heavy-hitters criticized him, Booker qualified his remarks. But his “MTP” comments were unmitigated heresy driving to the core of the Obama campaign message. The narrative, telescoping the theme of four years of this presidency, says that the American economy collapsed because of unbridled capitalism. To recover, the narrative continues, we must allow all-knowing, all-powerful, but compassionate political leadership in Washington to rearrange the American economy and make sure businesses never steamroll Americans again.
