With the world’s attention still riveted by Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel, the death and destruction of the Russia-Ukraine war, now in its 21st month, goes on. During the conflict, President Joe Biden has put the U.S. forward as a potential peace broker. Do average Americans believe his plan is working?
To find the answer, the October I&I/TIPP Poll asked voters: “How satisfied are you with the Biden administration’s efforts to find a settlement to the Russia-Ukraine conflict?”
The response, after more than $113 billion in U.S. military and humanitarian aid, is not much. Among those responding to the I&I/TIPP Poll, conducted from Sept. 27-29 among 1,378 adults, just 34% said they were either “very satisfied” (11%) or “somewhat satisfied” (23%).
More than half of respondents — 53% — described themselves as either “not very satisfied” (22%) or “not at all satisfied” (31%). Another 12% said they were “not sure.” The poll has a margin of error of +/-2.7 percentage points.

As is usually the case in these days of highly partisan politics, the major parties and independents show sharp differences over Biden’s efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Democrats (61% “satisfied,” 27% “not satisfied”) strongly support Biden, while Republicans (12% “satisfied,” 83% “not satisfied) overwhelmingly reject Biden’s efforts so far.
Independents again represented a kind of middle ground between the two parties, with 29% “satisfied,” but 53% calling themselves “not satisfied.”
Indeed, among all possible responses, “not at all satisfied” was No. 1 at 31%.

The deepest forms of evil committed against another person and/or people possess both a madness and a method.

During last week’s murderous terrorist attack by Hamas, the vilest atrocities were not solely the inevitable and desired result of generations of Palestinians being indoctrinated in homes, schools, and mosques to hate Jews and deem any act to destroy Israel, however inhuman, as justified. The madness did exacerbate the terrorists’ frenzied butchery, torture, rape, kidnapping of men, women, and children, and the desecration of bodies. It further led to the expansion of Hamas’ indiscriminate slaughter to anyone in their barbarous swath who they considered supportive of Israel (who may not be Jewish), such as American, German, and Brazilian concert goers and tourists, because Hamas’ despicable terrorist screed deems anyone who supports the Jewish state in any manner as their enemies and, ergo, deserving of death.

Still, some may wish to consider Hamas’ barbarity as a case of some terrorists becoming besotted by bloodlust, which allowed a handful of atrocities to be portrayed as the rule not the exception. But this would require overlooking Hamas’ barbaric method and its triumvirate of terrorist aims:

-Deepening of the depravity of their terrorist attack to raise its intimidation factor upon Israelis and their allies, the initial goal being to drive Israelis from the immediate area and preclude their return and, ultimately, the abandonment of Israel in total;

-Cementing Hamas as the leader of the pro-Palestinian movement; and

-Raising the bar of evil for other terrorist organizations and individuals to match – both inside and outside Israel.

How else to you explain Hamas filming their atrocities and proudly displaying them to the world?  Historically, as Allied troops were closing on the Third Reich, the Nazis sought to eradicate every trace of the Holocaust. Though rapt in the antisemitic madness and bloodlust of Hitler’s terrorist Reich that sought to methodically eradicate the totality of European Jewry, claiming over six million innocents as they did, these mass murderers feared the world becoming aware of their crimes and the ultimate justice the world would – and did – pronounce and exact upon them.

Not so Hamas, who deliberately displayed their depravity to the world. For Hamas, such videos were not proof of their crimes but propaganda for their cause. Disgustingly, they are being proven correct. Many in our world did not condemn, but rather celebrated the Hamas attack and atrocities, including in many American cities. Especially in the West, some of these perverse celebrations endeavored to portray themselves as supporting Palestine but not Hamas. Yet, these particular gatherings in support of Palestine have happened only after the terrorist attack and during Israel’s inevitable and justified defensive response in Gaza. In these world-wide “shows of Palestinian solidarity,” there is a paucity of denunciations of Hamas and its atrocities.

Three days after the dastardly and cowardly attack by Hamas on Israel, President Biden responded. For the most part his words resonated well. In fact, given the chance of escalation by Iran or their surrogate Hezbollah, he said simply, “Don’t.” But he added, unnecessarily in my opinion:

“I just got off the phone with – the third call with Prime Minister Netanyahu. And I told him if the United States experienced what Israel is experiencing, our response would be swift, decisive, and overwhelming. We also discussed how democracies like Israel and the United States are stronger and more secure when we act according to the rule of law. Terrorists purpo – purposefully target civilians, kill them. We uphold the laws of war – the law of war. It matters. There’s a difference.”

Sadly, in war, there are no Marquess of Queensbury rules. The only law is victory. To eliminate the enemy. To eradicate the scourge of Nazism and Fascism during World War II, were “laws of war” a consideration? No. The Allies called for unconditional surrender. Approximately, half a million German civilians were killed in Allied bombing raids, including the fire-bombing of Dresden. Over 200,000 Japanese civilians died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Could those deaths have been prevented? Perhaps, but at what cost to Allied and Axis lives. With Hamas terrorists having paraglided into the Tribe of Nova music festival and killed 260 attendees, beheaded children, raped and burned women, and concealed hostages within Hamas headquarters and military installations, Israelis are not combatting an enemy who complies with the 1949 Geneva Conventions, or international humanitarian laws. They were brutally attacked in an act of pure evil. The Israelis job is to rid the enemy, to demand unconditional surrender, just as the U.S. and its Allies did in World War II. And Iran, Hamas’ supporter and financier, must be confronted. In a speech to the students at Harrow School on October 29, 1941, Winston Churchill spoke words that have pertinence to Israelis today:

“This is the lesson: never give in, never, never, never, never – in nothing great or

small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.

Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

Between Iran, Russia and China, an axis of evil exists today, just as it did in 1938.

A group of 44 House Republicans sent a letter to Department of Education secretary Miguel Cardona urging the federal agency to protect Jewish college students in light of Thursday’s “national day of resistance,” organized by the national leadership of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). 

“We encourage the Department to engage immediately with colleges and universities on their obligations to take prompt and appropriate action to respond to harassment that creates a hostile environment for Jewish students,” reads the letter, which was led by Representative Tim Walberg (R., Mich.).

The letter was distributed to all House members Wednesday afternoon but had not been signed by any House Democrats as of Thursday afternoon. National Review contacted Democratic members of Walberg’s Michigan delegation, and only the office of Representative Debbie Dingell (D., Mich.) responded, saying “Rep. Dingell wants every student to be safe.”Walberg’s office, for its part, has “not heard from anyone.”

“There is nothing partisan about the issue or letter text,” a Walberg spokesman told NR when asked about the lack of reaction across the aisle.

The SJP — whose campus chapters are behind many of the pro-Hamas statements coming out of American universities over the past few days — is planning a nationwide day of protest on October 12.

After the Hamas attack that has left more than 1,000 Israeli civilians dead, as well as numerous Americans, SJP celebrated the violence in a letter announcing the “Day of Resistance.”

“Today, we witness a historic win for the Palestinian resistance: across land, air, and sea, our people have broken down the artificial barriers of the Zionist entity, taking with it the facade of an impenetrable settler colony and reminding each of us that total return and liberation to Palestine is near. As the Palestinian student movement, we have an unshakable responsibility to join the call for mass mobilization,” the SJP wrote.

“National liberation is near— glory to our resistance, to our martyrs, and to our steadfast people,” the letter continues.

SJP’s leaders go on to claim that: “settlers are not ‘civilians,’” that “responsibility for every single death falls solely on the zionist entity,” and that the terrorism Israel has faced is “legitimate, and all of it is necessary.”

If the most informative response to the Hamas atrocities was Victor Davis Hanson’s Twitter post on Israel’s “50th anniversary war,” then the most interesting was written in The Spectator by Brendan O’Neill, who asked “why isn’t Antifa condemning the tide of anti-Semitism?”

“Where is Antifa?” he wondered. “Where are those self-styled anti-fascists who love to rage against anything that is even vaguely reminiscent of the 1930s?”

He knows what the rest of us do: That there’s nothing anti-fascist about Antifa.

“To the modern left, everything is fascism except actual fascism,” says O’Neill.

“​​They’ve been fighting fantasy fascism for years, yet when real fascism came, they hid, they looked the other way, they made excuses.”

While Antifa conspicuously stays out of sight, Black Lives Matter, the darling of the Democrats, shows up in party hats and whistles, with “​​chapters across the country,” Mediaite reports, “celebrating the terrorist attacks that have claimed hundreds of innocent lives in Israel.”

Harvard students made a splashy appearance, as well – nearly three dozen campus groups have sided with the barbarians. According to the media, a coalition of 34 Harvard student organizations issued a joint statement in which they said they “hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence,” as “millions of Palestinians in Gaza have been forced to live in an open-air prison,” and “the apartheid regime is the only one to blame.”

Harvard President Claudine Gay says that the groups don’t speak “for Harvard University or its leadership.” But don’t they? Aren’t they saying out loud what most administrators and professors – not just at Harvard but at universities and colleges across the West – want to say, but don’t yet feel free to publicly voice? Isn’t contempt for Israeli Jews exactly what the students have been taught?

Elements in both groups have since tried to retreat from their hateful actions and comments, but it’s too late. One, their “repentance” is based on public backlash, not the horrors perpetrated by Hamas, and, two, they clearly showed the world who they really are.

In a staggering act of journalistic deceit, the New York Times is reporting that Republicans launched an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden without any “evidence of financial wrongdoing or corruption by the president.” Similar statements have been made by a massive array of media outlets and Democrat politicians.

In reality, overwhelming proof of Joe Biden’s corruption and wrongdoing has been found, including hard evidence like written records and corroborated testimonies from first-hand witnesses. Collectively, at least 12 sets of documented facts leave no reasonable doubt that Biden participated in his son’s illicit business deals, bribed foreign officials, and obstructed justice.

Moreover, no less than three major defenses of Biden are demonstrably false.

1) “Don’t Mention Joe”

Joe Biden claimed at least eight times that he had nothing to do with his son Hunter’s business dealings and never even spoke to Hunter about them. For example, he told a group of reporters on August 28, 2019:

I have never discussed with my son, or my brother, or anyone else, anything having to do with their businesses, period.

In May 2017, two of Hunter’s business partners exchanged several WhatsApp messages about the Biden family’s involvement in their dealings, and one of the partners wrote to the other:

Don’t mention Joe being involved, it’s only when u are face to face, I know u know that but they are paranoid.

2) “A Chairman’s Role”

In 2023, the business partner who was on the receiving end of the “Don’t mention Joe” message stated:

The American people don’t fully appreciate yet the key role Joe Biden played in the Biden family global influence-peddling… I would equate it to a chairman’s role in a traditional business structure.

3) “The Big Guy”

In May 2017, the same partner who wrote “Don’t mention Joe” sent an email to Hunter and two of their other partners in which he proposed how the “equity” of a joint venture with a Chinese energy company named CEFC would be “distributed.”

Over the past few decades, two extreme ideas have unfortunately gained wide acceptance: that racism is systemic in America; and that if you are white, you are by default privileged and racist. 

As a result, many young whites are ridden with guilt.  Meanwhile, leftists and radical blacks are advancing reverse racism – active discrimination against those who happen to be white.

No wonder a 2021 Gallup poll found white-black relations at a 20-year low: 57% of the respondents said relations were “somewhat” or “very” bad.  In The War on Whites, author Ed Brodow attributed the downturn to Barack Obama and his focus on racial division.  Harping on white supremacy and privilege fomented animosity and engendered an inquisition against whites, aimed at exorcising unconscious biases through a “racial justice shakedown.”

Examples abound of institutional level discrimination by exclusion of whites, unthinkable a decade ago and sure to provoke widespread outrage if blacks or Latinx were excluded.  Perhaps the most glaring instance is the establishment of quotas by the city of Asheville, North Carolina, for its Human Relations Commission.  Five white residents, represented by attorney Ruth Smith, have sued the city for employing “illegal discriminatory policies and procedures.”

More on the Asheville lawsuit later.  Before that, some other examples of the effrontery with which institutions are testing the waters on anti-white discrimination, perhaps in the hope of normalizing it eventually:

To mark the second anniversary of her inauguration as mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot announced that she wouldn’t be granting one-on-one interviews to white reporters.  Her justification: the City Hall press corps was overwhelmingly white in a city where more than half the people identify as black, Latino, Native American, or Asian Pacific Americans.
In August, retail giant Best Buy released a memo about a mini MBA-style training program for employees from which whites were specifically prohibited.  The social-media blowback was such that its CEO Corie Barry made her Twitter account private.
Last year, Brown University offered an online teacher-training course meant only for black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC).  It removed the restriction after a complaint.
The University of Minnesota established a summer internship to prepare students for graduate school that excluded whites and offered stipends of $6,000 to black and Native American students.  The university is re-evaluating the program after a complaint.
In 2021, Cornell University created a BIPOC-only rock-climbing course.  An instructor claimed it wasn’t discriminatory but aimed at making minorities comfortable in a white-centric sport.

When I first saw the number showing just how many times Presidentish Joe Biden had effectively lied when he said, “I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings,” I was flabbergasted. And until now I have never, ever used the word flabbergasted. Well, maybe (unlike Biden) not never… but certainly not very often.

If only the same could be said about our alleged president and his estranged relationship with the truth.

But then I looked at that number again, thought a bit more about how Biden has spent a lifetime in public “service” telling lies without reservation or hesitation — oftentimes for seemingly no reason — and do you know what I realized?

“Yeah, 29,000 times is about right for this one story.”

I told you it was a big number.

America First Legal filed a Freedom of Information Act suit against the National Archives to dig into Biden’s emails when he was Vice President, which are a matter of public record. Despite Biden’s insistence that he has “never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings,” what the archives showed was something a teensy bit greater than zero.

I’m no calculus surgeon, but I can add up simple rows of figures. And what those figures add up to is 29,067 instances in which Biden effectively lied about “never” having discussed business with Hunter.

But that’s just the icing on the Biden Crime Syndicate’s cake of ick.

A paradox of the Civil Rights movement is that the driving force behind that great victory––the codification in law, acknowledged by a majority of the nation, that color could not and should not compromise black American’s political equality and unalienable rights––was quickly degraded by the continuation of the pseudo-concept of  “race,” an artifact of racist scientism.

Ever since, our racialist discourse has continued to legitimize and prioritize the idea of  “color” as the most essential dimension of our identities. As a result of this racial essentialism, racism has found a new life in the “woke” ideology of “systemic racism” and “white fragility,” which are predicated on the assumption that all so-called “white” people are indelibly stained with racist animus, even if they don’t know it. This claim is the real “Jim Crow 2.0” Joe Biden talked about in 2022, not the common-sense election reforms he was attacking.

So it is today that the central preposterous and destructive fallacy of racism––that every member of the “inferior” race is in all respects indelibly inferior to every member of the “superior” race––lives on.

This maximalist absolutism was necessary in the old South to protect the justification of slavery as a natural institution reflecting the alleged disparities between black and white. But bans on allowing slaves to learn to read, for example, were a tacit admission that totalizing inferiority was incoherent, since if all people of African descent were inferior, how could they learn to read or be further educated?  And without that “natural” inferiority, on what grounds could slavery be justified?

Next, despite several decades of activist historians claiming to find racism based on appearance as far back as ancient Greece, “race” and “racism” as we know them were a product of the Enlightenment and the scientism it fostered. This is not to say that bigotry and prejudice didn’t exist, and often lead to violence and injustice. But such bigotry was in the main not based on how people looked or the color of their skin.

Indeed, the “father of history,” Herodotus, in his 5th century B.C. work Histories, wrote of Ethiopia that “its men are the tallest, the most handsome, and the longest lived,” and said of swarthy Egypt that “it has more wonders in it than any other country in the world and provides more works that defy description than any other place.”

Rather than physical appearance, Greek bigotry reflected a dislike for how other ethnicities lived, their mores, customs, language, laws and, for the Greeks, whether they were free citizens or unfree subjects. The Athenians’ contempt for the Persians, for example, was based on their subjecting themselves to a Great King, in whose presence they had to prostrate themselves and kiss the ground. Even if a Persian was rich, to the Greeks he was still a slave who groveled before a tyrannical master.
