MARION DREYFUS: A REVIEW OF “DRINKING BUDDIES”

Far more amusing than the perfect name implies, the title Drinking Buddies could have been topped only by some variant of Barfly (1987). Beer-fly, maybe?    DB could be the PG version of the scorching relationship takedown film, 2004’s Closer. Buddies takes a sudsy stethoscope to the shifting heartbeats between opposite-sex best friends and unfulfilled […]

MARILYN PENN: BOGUS JASMINE

http://politicalmavens.com/ At the risk of being a critical minority of one, I have to point out that “Blue Jasmine” is a movie in which we are asked to take seriously and empathize with characters who are mostly cardboard paste-ups.  Ginger, the sister of Cate Blanchett’s Jasmine, is a divorced mother who works as a bagger […]

JACK ENGELHARD: CNN AND NBC- HILLARY CLINTON- A PRESIDENT IS BORN

http://communities.washingtontimes.com/neighborhood/novelists-view-world/2013/aug/6/nbc-and-cnn-star-hillary-and-president-born/

NEW YORK, August 6, 2013—Frankly my dear, NBC does give a damn, and so does CNN. Both networks, affiliates of the Democrat Party, have films in development about Hillary Rodham Clinton, and they don’t care what anybody says. Already there is noise from the Republican Party, to which the networks say, “There is a Republican Party? Where?”

Which is why (my guess) the reproachful email from the RNC ended up in the spam file until somebody at the networks pointed out that Reince Priebus was for real and so, perhaps, was the Republican National Committee, complaining that the Hillary movies were “a thinly-veiled attempt at putting the thumb on the scales of the 2016 presidential election.”

In other words, NBC’s four-hour miniseries, starring Diane Lane, and CNN’s docudrama, were sure to favor Hillary, if she planned to run.

There are no plans for any Republican to run for president. Ever. It is over and done.

Next came the threat, saying that if NBC and CNN persisted, why in that case, they would lose their chance to host the 2016 GOP Olympics, or debates, which ordinarily attract a national viewership between four and four million Americans. Both NBC and CNN responded by saying, “Oooh. We are so scared.”

Did the Roosevelt Administration Send Uranium and Other Atomic Materials to Stalin?

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2013/08/05/Did-the-Roosevelt-administration-send-uranium-and-other-atomic-materials-to-Stalin
This is the second in a series in five parts based on the new book, “American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation’s Character” (St. Martin’s Press) by Diana West.

It’s difficult to imagine someone more important in U.S. history than Harry Hopkins, but Americans don’t learn much more than his name, if that, in school.

This means we aren’t taught that Hopkins, FDR’s top wartime advisor, ran what became known as “Roosevelt’s own personal Foreign Office” from the Lincoln Bedroom, where Hopkins lived for three-and-half-years. We aren’t taught that this former social worker in key ways controlled U.S. foreign policy by controlling the distribution of U.S. military materiel to countries at war through his supervision of the massive Lend Lease program. We aren’t taught he attended the famous wartime conferences as de facto “foreign minister.” We certainly aren’t taught that Lend Lease, perhaps even Hopkins himself, pushed uranium and other A-bomb essentials through to Stalin.

These uranium shipments, erased from our historical memory but documented by Congress in 1950, took place at a time when the atomic development program known as the Manhattan Project was, we thought, our most precious secret.

Why would Lend Lease, overseen by Hopkins — who was also, not incidentally, FDR’s liaison to atomic research — do such a thing?

The answer may relate to something else we don’t learn about Harry Hopkins: FDR’s powerful wartime advisor may have been a Soviet agent — and “the most important of all Soviet wartime agents.”

DEALING WITH TERRORISM THE OBAMA WAY: RACHEL EHRENFELD AND KEN JENSEN

Home The State Department’s extended embassy closures in the Middle East and Africa and worldwide alert to Americans traveling abroad, according to ABC News was announced because of fear of al Qaeda attacks by “living (but not ticking) bombs,” i.e. surgically implanted undetectable liquid explosives. Most likely these were developed by AQAP’s expert bomb-maker, Ibrahim […]

MORE MUSLIM KNIGHTS IN TUNISIA….THOUSANDS RALLY TO OUST GOVERNMENT: TAREK AMARA

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/08/06/us-tunisia-protests-idUSBRE97513220130806

“The imam of the historic Zaitouna mosque in Tunis’s old city also went onto the stage to read verses from the Koran.Opposition leaders hope the move will send a message they are anti-Ennahda, not anti-Islam.”Allahu akbar (God is great),” the crowds chanted back to the imam.”

Tens of thousands of Tunisians crowded the streets of downtown Tunis on Tuesday to demand the transitional government’s ouster, in the largest opposition protest since the country’s political crisis began two weeks ago.

The secular opposition, angered by two assassinations in its ranks and emboldened by the army-backed toppling of Egypt’s Islamist president, is trying to topple Tunisia’s Islamist-led government and dissolve the Constituent Assembly.

Egyptian Govt: McCain ‘Persona Non Grata, An Unwelcome Person’….See note please

Sending Senators McCain and Graham to Egypt is like sending plumbers to a massive electrical failure, and another sign of Obama’s ineptitude.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2013/08/06/Egyptian-Govt-to-McCain-He-is-persona-non-grata-an-unwelcome-person
The Egyptian Cabinet took offense to comments Senator John McCain (R – AZ) made to the Washington Post about his advice to the new government of Egypt about releasing Muslim Brotherhood prisoners. The cabinet tweeted on Tuesday:

McCain remarks from inside the Egy territory to the W.Post insults the Egy sovereignty.we consider him persona non grata.an unwelcome person
— Egyptian Cabinet (@Cabinet_eg) August 6, 2013

The Egyptian government quickly deleted the tweet.

McCain and Senator Lindsey Graham (R – S.C.) are both in Egypt in an attempt to the push U.S. policy that the current interim leadership should negotiate with supporters of the now ousted president Mohamed Morsi. According to the Washington Post:

RON RADOSH: REVIEW OF DIANA WEST’S BOOK “AMERICAN BETRAYAL”….SEE NOTE PLEASE

http://frontpagemag.com/2013/ronald-radosh/mccarthy-on-steroids/print/

THIS NASTY REVIEW SUPPLANTS A VERY GOOD REVIEW IN THE SAME ONLINE JOURNAL BY MARK TAPSON WHICH IS STILL AVAILABLE ON THIS SITE, ALTHOUGH FRONTPAGE TOOK IT DOWN WITH A RATHER FLIMSY EXPLANATION THAT ANOTHER REVIEWER HAD BEEN ASSIGNED. TAPSON’S REVIEW IS HERE: http://www.ruthfullyyours.com/2013/07/08/mark-tapson-on-diana-wests-american-betrayal/

OF RADOSH I CAN ONLY QUOTE ANN COULTER IN 2007 “Poor Ron Radosh is still hoping liberals will forgive him. He wrote a good book a quarter-century ago with Joyce Milton — “The Rosenberg File” — which was supposed to exonerate Julius Rosenberg, but instead concluded that Rosenberg was guilty of Soviet espionage. Radosh has spent the rest of his life apologizing to liberals for that book. This week, he’s apologizing in the pages of the increasingly irrelevant National Review with a nasty review of the greatest book since the Bible, M. Stanton Evans’ “Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy.” Radosh makes misstatements of fact about the book, misstates facts about the cases and falsely accuses Evans of plagiarism. Other than that, it’s a good review!”

Diana West, American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation’s Character, New York: St. Martin’s Press, 403 pages; $26.99.

Many Americans at both ends of the political spectrum view history in conspiratorial terms. The late Senator Joseph McCarthy set the bar very high when he claimed to have uncovered “a conspiracy on a scale so immense as to dwarf any previous such venture in the history of man. A conspiracy of infamy so black that, when it is finally exposed, its principals shall be forever deserving of the maledictions of all honest men.” In that famous speech to the Senate on June 14, 1951, McCarthy condemned former Chief of Staff of the Army and Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense as a traitor who made “common cause with Stalin on the strategy of the war in Europe,” who “took the strategic direction of the war out of Roosevelt’s hands and – who fought the British desire, shared by [General] Mark Clark, to advance from Italy into the eastern plains of Europe ahead of the Russians.”

Diana West, who expands the scope of this conspiracy in American Betrayal, is McCarthy’s heiress. She argues that during the New Deal the United States was an occupied power, its government controlled by Kremlin agents who had infiltrated the Roosevelt administration and subverted it. Like McCarthy, whom West believes got everything correct, she believes a conspiracy was at work that effectively enabled the Soviets to be the sole victors in World War II and shape American policies in the postwar world.

Writing sixty years later, she claims that the evidence that has come to light in the interim not only vindicates McCarthy’s claims but goes well beyond anything he imagined. Throughout American Betrayal, West uses the terms “occupied” and “controlled” to describe the influence the Soviet Union exerted over U.S. policy through its agents and spies. She believes she has exposed “the Communist-agent-occupation of the U.S. government” during the Roosevelt and Truman eras, and that her discoveries add up to a Soviet-controlled American government that conspired to strengthen Russia throughout World War II at the expense of American interests, marginalize anti-Communist Germans, and deliver the crucial material for the Atomic Bomb to Stalin and his henchmen. It also conspired to cover up the betrayal. In West’s summation: “The Roosevelt administration [was] penetrated, fooled, subverted, in effect hijacked by Soviet agents… and engaged in a “‘sell-out’ to Stalin” that “conspirators of silence on the Left…would bury for as long as possible, desperately throwing mud over it and anyone who wanted the sun to shine in.” According to West, it was only because Washington was “Communist-occupied” that the United States aligned itself with the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany.
