They’re now gifts that a benign king graciously showers upon his subjects.
CNN’s John King did his best the other night, producing a question from one of his viewers:
“Since birth control is the latest hot topic, which candidate believes in birth control, and if not, why?”
To their credit, no Republican candidate was inclined to accept the premise of the question. King might have done better to put the issue to Danica Patrick. For some reason, Michelle Fields of theDaily Caller sought the views of the NASCAR driver and Sports Illustrated swimwear model about “the Obama administration’s dictate that religious employers provide health-care plans that cover contraceptives.” Miss Patrick, a practicing Catholic, gave the perfect citizen’s response for the Age of Obama:
“I leave it up to the government to make good decisions for Americans.”
That’s the real “hot topic” here — whether a majority of citizens, in America as elsewhere in the West, is willing to “leave it up to the government” to make decisions on everything that matters. On the face of it, the choice between the Obama administration and the Catholic Church should not be a tough one. On the one hand, we have the plain language of the First Amendment as stated in the U.S. Constitution since 1791: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

Unsurprisingly, there are more non-Jews than Jews advocating for Israel on campuses. What is surprising are the reasons for their activism
WASHINGTON — Think North American campus activism for Israel and chances are you won’t think of a Hispanic Catholic organizing pro-Israel events.
Or, of an African American Catholic at a historically black college telling not just her fellow students, but also a Jewish youth group, why she supports Israel.
Yet, Stanley Gonzalez-Martinez and Alexis Crews are among thousands of non-Jewish students at North American colleges and universities who wear their love for Israel on their sleeves.
‘Non-Jewish students vastly outnumber the number of Jewish activists motivated to support Israel’
That shouldn’t be a surprise, says Stephen Kuperberg, the Israel on Campus Coalition’s executive director. “Non-Jewish students vastly outnumber the number of Jewish activists motivated to support Israel,” he says.

Bolton, Glenn Beck Honor Gush Katif
More than 600 people attended this past Wednesday’s Gush Katif dinner in New York. Speakers included Glenn Beck, John Bolton. The dinner was organized by the Gush Katif Museum in Jerusalem and was endorsed by a number of leading Jewish organizations including, Americans For a Safe Israel (AFSI) and The World Committee for the Land of Israel.
The Gush Katif Museum has undertaken the task of memorializing the history of Gush Katif, from the time of the Hasmoneans until the 2005 disengagement plan when residents were evicted from their homes.
The speakers at Wednesday’s dinner included former United States Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, conservative media personality and ardent Israel supporter, Glenn Beck, Congressman Lee Terry of Nebraska, and comedian Jackie Mason.
http://news.yahoo.com/clinton-warns-arab-spring-backsliding-121457871.html TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton warned Saturday of backsliding in the democratic transformations under way in the Middle East and North Africa and appealed for leaders and citizens to make good on the promise of reform offered by the Arab Spring and not abandon the democratic goals that […]
Why Apologize to Afghanistan?By Andrew C. McCarthy http://www.nationalreview.com/blogs/print/291925 We have officially lost our minds. The New York Times reports that President Obama has sent a formal letter of apology to Afghanistan’s ingrate president, Hamid Karzai, for the burning of Korans at a U.S. military base. The only upside of the apology is that it appears (based […]
http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/ THE LIFE OF A KORAN What is worth more in the eyes of Obama, an American soldier or a Koran? We all got the answer to that when after an Afghan soldier murdered two American soldiers, Obama apologized to the Afghan government because their already defaced Korans were not properly respected, venerated, kissed and […]

Just in case the groveling apologies of Barack Hussein Obama and USMC Gen. John R. Allen for burning a few Mein Kampfs of the jihad movement, as the late and lamented Oriana Fallaci used to call the Koran, have anyone nostalgic for George W. Bush and his commanders, let’s recall one reason this story is so deja-vu-all-over-again.
Back in May 2008, a US sniper in Iraq used a Koran for target practice. Remember? I wrote quite a bit about that incident and its repercussions. Highlights included a presidential apology to Iranian stooge Maliki via teleconference, and a drenching wallow from Major General Jeffrey Hammond, commander of US forces in Baghdad, in which he called the shooting (of a book) “a criminal act.” Criminal according to what law? Not ours. Islamic law.

A state judge in Pennsylvania has dismissed an assault and harrassment case against a Muslim defendant who admitted attacking the victim. Magistrate Judge Mark Martin, a veteran of the war in Iraq and a convert to Islam, ruled that Talag Elbayomy’s sharia defense — what he claimed was his obligation to strike out against any insult against the prophet Mohammed — trumped the First Amendment free speech rights of the victim.
Yes, you read that correctly.
There will be much more to say about this. For now, you can find details, here, including the YouTube recording of Judge Martin hectoring the assault victim, Ernie Perce, an activist atheist who paraded last October in a “Zombi Mohammed” costume. Before dismissing the case, Martin lectured Perce about the principles of Islam and the tender sensibilities of Muslims, calling him a “dufus” for failing to appreciate same.
In 27 years of trying and analyzing legal cases, this performance is as shocking and disgraceful as anything I’ve ever seen from an American trial judge.
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/291921/sharia-court-pennsylvania-transcript-andrew-c-mccart I have made a transcript of the Pennsylvania case in which state judge Mark Martin, a Muslim convert and U.S. Army reservist who served in Iraq, relied on a sharia law defense (as well as some evidentiary contortions) to dismiss an open-and-shut harassment case against a Muslim man who assaulted an atheist activist at […]
