RAYMOND IBRAHIM: EGYPT’S GRAND MUFTI DISTORTS THE WORD “INFIDEL” TO DUPE INFIDELS

Grand Mufti Distorts Word ‘Infidel’ to Dupe Infidels Posted By Raymond Ibrahim

Soon after reporting [1] that Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Ali Gomaa, had pronounced all Christians “infidels,” I received several emails forwarding what looked like a response from Gomaa. Some websites — such as the ever-hysterical “American Muslim [2]” — published it, providing the following additional information:

Prof. Faroque Ahmad Khan took it on himself to investigate [the claims of my article]. Dr. Khan requested Dr Ibrahim Negm — a senior advisor to the Grand Mufti [and an Al Azhar professor] to provide a clarification of the remarks attributed to Sheikh Ali Gomaa. Here is the response that was received [followed by the same text others had emailed me].

Though he makes several points, including the need for “dialogue” and “mutual respect,” Gomaa’s grand point, the crux of the issue — what kafir which I routinely translate as “infidel” means — unfortunately exposes dishonesty on his part (the other option, ignorance, being inapplicable). He writes:

Mr. Ibrahim’s choice of wording is regrettable. The English word “infidel” carries with it strong connotations of exclusion and violence, inherited from the European experience of Christianity during the wars of religion which devastated that continent for decades.

In fact, from its inception, Islam has been the quintessential religion — historically and doctrinally — to enforce and institutionalize “exclusion and violence” for the “other,” to the point of influencing medieval Christianity [3]. Gomaa therefore takes the standard way [4] out — blame Christianity and its “wars of religion” (code for “Crusades”) — without alluding to what prompted these wars in the first place: five centuries of unprovoked Islamic aggression, land-grabbing, subjugation and persecution of Christians, which continues to this very day.

JOSEPH BOTTUM: CHRISTIANS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

http://www.hudson-ny.org/2587/christians-middle-east Of the eight million people or so living in Israel, around 20% are Arabs—of whom about 7% are Christian. Israel’s Arab Christians, in other words, number only about 110,000 people, living mostly in tight communities in Jerusalem and the Galilee. For all the solicitous attention paid to them by such international Christian organizations as […]

SOEREN KERN: SWEDEN’S NEW ANTI-SEMITES….OFFICIAL “UP TO THE TOP”

TOP OFFICIALS ARE ARDENT ENABLERS BUT MALMO IS OVERRUN WITH MOSLEMS WHO GLADLY CARRY OUT ANTI-SEMITC ACTS….RSK

Police in Sweden’s third-largest city, Malmö, are reporting a significant uptick in the number of reported anti-Semitic hate-crimes this year.

During just the first six months of 2011, Malmö police registered 21 anti-Semitic crimes, more than the total number (20) of such crimes reported in the city during all of 2010. According to police officials interviewed by the public broadcaster Sveriges Radio, the actual number of anti-Semitic incidents is far higher.

Recent statistics from Sweden’s National Council on Crime Prevention (Brottsförebyggande rådet) revealed that nationwide in 2010, there were 161 reported anti-Semitic hate crimes.

The data comes as the Swedish government on September 20 set aside 4 million kroner ($600,000) to help boost security around the country’s synagogues, after accusations that Sweden has not done enough to protect its Jewish population.

The allocation will go to “increase security and reduce vulnerability for the Jewish minority,” according to Integration Minister Erik Ullenhag. He said the one-time appropriation in the 2012 budget funding is primarily meant to pay for an increased police presence, but that the money could also be used to purchase security cameras if Jewish groups express the need for such equipment.

DON’T UNDERESTIMATE IRAN’S INSTABILITY: DANIEL GREENFIELD

http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/ Israeli leaders and generals certainly don’t mind smiling knowingly every time a top Iranian commander meets an untimely accident, which has been happening surprisingly often these past few years, but the explanation is likely to be more complicated than Mossad secrets agents operating behind the scenes. The logistics of infiltrating people on the ground […]

DAVID WILDER FROM HEBRON THE FIRST JEWISH CITY IN ISRAEL

A free people in our land – Hebron Can we be a free people in our land without the first Jewish city in Israel?
Several years ago, on the anniversary of the liberation of Hebron in 1967, I was interviewed by a journalist who queried me about various problems facing Hebron’s Jewish community. His concluding question/statement was, “Well, I guess you’re not celebrating today?”
“Why not?” I replied.

“Well, you have all these problems and issues, how can you celebrate?”

“You just don’t understand,” I answered. “Look at where were we 70 years ago, or 60 years ago. Were we in Hebron? Today I’m here, in the first Jewish city in Israel. I live here, I work here, I’m bringing up my children here. This is my home. True, we have problems. There are ups and downs. Issues must be dealt with. And they will be overcome. But I’m here. And as long as I’m here, I have what to celebrate, and that’s exactly what I’m doing today!”

SHARIA KNIGHTS IN TUNISIA PLEDGE NEW CALIPHATE

Tunisian Pledges a New Caliphate

http://www.investigativeproject.org/3290/tunisian-pledges-a-new-caliphate

Secular Tunisians are expressing concerns after a leader of the country’s Islamist Al-Nahda movement said Tunisia’s emerging government marks “the Sixth Righteous Caliphate.”

The fifth caliphate, an Islamic imperial governing system, was abolished by Turkish secular Kemal Ataturk in 1924. In a speech posted on YouTube Sunday, Hamadi Jbeli also pledged that “we shall set forth with God’s help to conquer Jerusalem, if Allah wills… From here is conquest with the help of Allah Almighty.”

Al-Nahda won 98 of 217 parliamentary seats in the nation’s first free elections and Jbeli may be its candidate for prime minister. The group’s electoral success won international praise as a “moderate” movement promoting a democratic form of political Islam. Headlines in mainstream media outlets like theNew York Times, Los Angeles Times, and CNN called Al-Nahda moderate.

WHY IS AHMED TIBI A MEMBER OF ISRAEL’S PARLIAMENT?

Tibi: ‘Death to Arabs’ law is next

Israeli-Arab MK tells Arafat memorial ceremony in Ramallah ‘Lieberman a fascist settler living in my land.

Tibi called Arafat “the eldest revolutionary” and “father of our homeland,'” adding that the “apartheid regime in the territories has deepened, and in Israel racism and fascism have reared their heads.”

Knesset Member Ahmad Tibi (United Arab List-Ta’al) on Wednesday called Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman a “fascist settler who recently settled in my homeland.”

During a ceremony in the West Bank city of Ramallah marking the seventh anniversary of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat’s death, the Arab-Israeli lawmaker said, “The Right and the new Likud are smothering our lives. The day will come when they will propose a ‘death to Arabs’ law.”

Tibi was referring to a series of controversial bills that have been initiated by right-wing parliamentarians. Israel’s Left has dubbed the legislation ‘anti-democratic.'”

MICHAEL MUKASEY: EXECUTIVE POWER IN WARTIME

http://www.hillsdale.edu/news/imprimis/archive/issue.asp?year=2011&month=10

Michael Mukasey served as the Attorney General of the United States from 2007-2009, as a U.S. district judge for the Southern District of New York from 1988-2006, and as an assistant U.S. attorney for that same district from 1972-1976. In 1995, he presided over the trial of Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman and others for a plot to blow up New York area landmarks. He received his B.A. from Columbia University and his LL.B. from Yale Law School.

The following is adapted from a speech delivered in Washington, D.C., on September 15, 2011, at the Second Annual Constitution Day Celebration sponsored by Hillsdale College’s Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship.

President Obama campaigned for office largely on the claim that his predecessor had shredded the Constitution. By the Constitution, he could not have meant the document signed on September 17, 1787. Article II of that document begins with a simple declaration: “The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America.” Not “some” or “most” or even “all but a teeny-weeny bit” of the executive power. The President is vested with all of it. This is particularly noteworthy when compared with the enumerated legislative powers vested in Congress: “All legislative Powers herein granted.” The Founders understood, based in part on their unfortunate experience under the Articles of Confederation, that the branch of government most likely to be in need of the ability to act quickly and decisively is the executive. The branch most likely to overreach is the legislature.

DIANA MUIR APPLEBAUM: ISRAEL’S BEDOUINS….ON THE ROAD AGAIN

http://www.jewishideasdaily.com/content/module/2011/11/16/main-feature/1/on-the-road-again/e The chronically tense relations between the Israeli government and Bedouins in the Negev—where unrecognized villages are built, razed, and built again—are certain to grow even more tense with the Israeli Cabinet’s recent approval of a plan that will recognize about half these villages but demolish the other half, sending their 30,000 residents to existing […]
