It was a normal Shabbat afternoon in Jerusalem’s Ramot neighborhood. Children were outside visiting with their friends and playing in the empty streets. But the tranquility of the scene was destroyed in a moment, when a Palestinian terrorist crept up on 17- year-old Yehuda Ne’emad and his friend and began stabbing Ne’emad in the abdomen and shoulder.
Ne’emad’s neighbor, a 12-year-old girl, told reporters that there but by the grace of God both she and her six-year-old brother would have also been attacked. After stabbing Ne’emad, the Palestinian terrorist began chasing the two children.
“It was only due to God’s help that I was able to escape,” she said. “I am sure that I couldn’t have escaped alone, because he was much faster than me.”
The IDF, which failed to prevent the attack, played no role in saving their lives. One week later, the terrorist was still at large.
Hi Gang:
My most recent commentary for the CAPS (Californians for Population Stabilization) website addresses the lunacy perpetrated by political “leaders” of various towns, cities and even some states to not work in cooperation with ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to aid in the enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws. Most recently, the mayor of Washington, D.C. signed an executive order that would prevent police officers from inquiring about the citizenship or immigration status of individuals that they encounter during the course of their routine duties!
Of course the federal government is not likely to take any action against Washington, D.C. or other such jurisdictions that have established “sanctuary” policies where immigration is concerned- although it is clear that under federal criminal laws, anyone who shields, harbors, aids or encourages illegal aliens to enter the United States or remain thereafter illegally is committing a felony.
Conversely, the current administration’s tactic has been to file lawsuits against any city or state that attempts to enact and enforce their own laws or regulations that parallel the federal immigration statutes!
Statue of Liberty: Remembering Emma Lazarus and Her 14 Iconic Lines

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…
In 14 lines engraved on a plaque on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, Emma Lazarus (1849-1887) captured the belief in the “American Dream” that has defined the United States’ self-image for more than a century and moved millions of immigrants to seek refuge here.
Fittingly, those lines — a sonnet titled “The New Colossus” — were written by a Jewish-American woman who knew how it was to feel like an outsider.

Noah Flood 2011
Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
“Israel Hayom” Newsletter, October 29, 2011 http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_opinion.php?id=732
The story of Noah’s Flood – which is featured in this week’s portion of the Torah – highlights the deep historical roots of US-Israel relations, the shared-values which bind the two countries and the opportunity of enhanced US-Israel relations, which is hidden in recent geopolitical and economic deluges.
Both Noah’s Ark and the Columbus expedition arrived at their destinations – 4,400 years apart – during the Holiday of Tabernacles (Sukkot), hence the annual celebration of Columbus Day around Sukkot. In fact, Columbus arrived on the shores of America on October 12, 1492, the last day of Sukkot, the day of divine deliverance, Hosha’ana Raba, according to Judaism.
Moreover, Noah’s Flood ended with the initial Covenant between God and mankind, symbolized by the rainbow. The flood swept away the immoral old world of the Tower of Babel, which represented the threat of absolute power, especially when in the hands of megalomaniac rulers. On the other hand, the new world introduced “unity through diversity” as a challenge – and a prerequisite – to free societies.
The Founding Fathers of the USA, who considered themselves “the modern people of the Covenant,” rebelled against the absolute power of the British monarchy Tower of Babel. They introduced a modern version of political diversity and liberty: checks and balances, separation of powers, federalism and the centrality of – and accountability to – the constituent. Instead of the Tower of Babel-like “divine” autocracy, they laid the foundations for modern day Judeo-Christian liberty: freedom of religion, education, press, expression, association, movement and competition.
