PETER WALLISON: WALL STREET’S GULLIBLE OCCUPIERS

Wall Street’s Gullible Occupiers
The protesters have been sold a bill of goods. Reckless government policies, not private greed, brought about the housing bubble and resulting financial crisis.

There is no mystery where the Occupy Wall Street movement came from: It is an offspring of the same false narrative about the causes of the financial crisis that exculpated the government and brought us the Dodd-Frank Act. According to this story, the financial crisis and ensuing deep recession was caused by a reckless private sector driven by greed and insufficiently regulated. It is no wonder that people who hear this tale repeated endlessly in the media turn on Wall Street to express their frustration with the current conditions in the economy.

PETER MARTINO: THE EUROZONE: THE ULTIMATE POLITICAL MONSTER AS ERUOPEANS RELINQUISH SOVEREIGNTY

http://www.hudson-ny.org/2492/eurozone-political-monster The euro crisis can only be solved, at least according to Wolfgang Münchau in Monday’s Financial Times, if the eurozone countries – the 17 member states of the European Union (EU) which use the euro as their currency – turn the eurozone into a fiscal union. If the eurozone does not transform itself into […]

RUTH KING:INTERVIEW WITH PATRICK T. DUNLEAVY…AUTHOR OF “THE FERTILE SOIL OF JIHAD-TERRORISM’S PRISON CONNECTION”

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.10552/pub_detail.asp
A lonely, alienated and angry person is convicted of a crime and imprisoned. Although he is prone to violence, and feels he has been wronged by “the system” he is fearful of prison predators and generally a loner. He is befriended by another prisoner, a skillful radical Moslem who introduces him to the Koran and shows great empathy and offers protection and social interaction. He converts to Islam and meets a charismatic Moslem chaplain, who has been chosen for the job by an Imam with close ties to organizations known to enable and fund terrorism. First, he becomes a messenger whose visitors who are sympathetic to his hatred of authority become conduits of information from and to outside terror operations with calls and orders emanating from the chaplain’s quarters. Ultimately he is converted to the cause of terror and jihad. Thus, a prison terror cell is hatched.

This may sound like a proposal for a movie but it is very real and happens throughout American jails. All Americans interested in national security and terrorism must read Patrick T.Dunleavy’s mesmerizing book “The Fertile Soil of Jihad-Terrorism’s Prison Connection.”

DANIEL GREENFIELD: GOODBYE COLUMBUS AND GOODBYE AMERICA

http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/

Columbus Day, once considered a major event, has been undergoing a decline in recent years. Its parades have met with protests and some have been deemphasized or outright eliminated.

In California, Columbus Day became Indigenous People’s Day, which sounds vaguely like a Marxist terrorist group’s holiday. But while it’s tempting to put that down to California’s political correctness, in South Dakota, it was renamed Native American Day.

No American state has followed Venezuela’s lead in renaming it Día de la Resistencia Indígena, or Day of Indigenous Resistance, which actually is a Marxist terrorist group’s holiday, the whole notion of celebrating the discovery of America has come to be seen as somehow shameful and worst of all, politically incorrect.

Anti-Columbus Day protests are mounted by La Raza, whose members, despite their indigenous posturing, are actually mostly descended from Spanish colonists, but who know that most American liberals are too confused to rationally frame an objection to a protest by any minority group.

About the only thing sillier than a group of people emphasizing their collective identity as a Spanish speaking people, and denouncing Columbus as an imperialist exploiter is the prevalence of “white” aborigines in Australian academia who make Ward Churchill look tan.

DANIEL J. MITCHELL: IS THIS THE WORST THING OBAMA HAS EVER SAID?

http://www.thecommentator.com/article/518/is_this_the_worst_thing_obama_has_ever_said_
Is this the worst thing Obama has ever said?

Obama has said some pretty unsettling things in his time, but he may have just taken the biscuit.

Over the years, Obama has said some really disturbing things.

In my video on class warfare, I noted that Obama in 2008 said he wanted to raise the capital gains tax even if the government lost revenue. It was necessary to punish success, he said, to promote “fairness.”

This was an utterly malevolent statement. It meant Obama is so consumed by the politics of hate and envy that he is willing to destroy private sector output even if it doesn’t result in more money for the political class.

Now there is a new statement that may be just as bad. In a recent interview on new fees from banks, the President said, “you don’t have some inherent right just to, you know, get a certain amount of profit, if your customers are being mistreated.”

This statement is reprehensible because banks are only raising fees because of new regulations in the Dodd-Frank bailout bill. In other words, this is a classic example of “Mitchell’s Law,” which is my narcissistic way of describing how politicians mess up an economy with one bad policy and then use the inevitable damage as an excuse for imposing additional bad policy.

But there is an even deeper problem with Obama’s statement. He is saying that consenting adults in the private sector do not have a right to engage in voluntary exchange if some clown in Washington arbitrarily thinks that one side of the transaction is being “mistreated.”
