MY SAY: RECOGNITION FOR RECOGNITION

At the risk of being diagnosed with perseveration (Uncontrollable repetition of a particular response, such as a word, phrase, or gesture) I find it risible that Israel, a democratic state, not perfect, but very advanced in scientific, cultural, and social institutions is the only nation in the world whose legitimacy is challenged. I also find it even more perverse that Israel’s Prime Minister offers Israel’s patrimony and legitimate and historic claims in exchange for “recognition of its right to exist as a Jewish state”….huh?

The very phrase is offensive. Recognition? By whom?

Well, Israel should also offer some recognition in exchange for this absurd notion. I recognize that Israel’s enemies are a group of jihadist barbarians with a blood lust that can only be satisfied with the demise of Israel. I recognize that they live in the corner of a hell where parents gladly offer their children as suicide bombers for a few bucks and a lot of praise from their neighbors; where they indulge in killing their own offspring for some perceived “dishonor” ; where the truly decent and peaceable people among them fear for their lives and a loss of their heads if they protest the harsh reality of this faith driven hatred.

Well, now that I recognize them for what they are, they can shove their recognition….and Israel’s Prime Minister who is, by default, guardian of Jewish destiny should grow the…..er….spine to say so instead of babbling about negotiations.

YORAM ETTINGER: LEOPARDS DON’T CHANGE SPOTS….ONLY TACTICS

http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_opinion.php?id=530 President Obama’s September 21, 2011 speech, at the UN General Assembly, reaffirmed his world view on global affairs in general, and on the Palestinian issue in particular. For instance, the President reiterated his, and Secretary Clinton’s, assessment that the seismic turmoil on the Arab Street constitutes “transition to democracy,” featuring “[non-violent] youth delivering a […]

ANDREW McCARTHY: CAN WE TELL THE TRUTH?

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/print/278246 I have met the weasel, and he is us. The question arises: How effective are weasel words in fighting off weasel words? With its leader having proposed to expand our deflating economy by redistributing another $1.5 trillion from private-sector producers to public-sector gluttons, the Obama Left’s talking point du jour is: “We are just […]

CAROLINE GLICK: ISRAEL’S PATH TO VICTORY

http://www.carolineglick.com/e/2011/09/israels-path-to-victory.php

“The government’s behavior is probably due to force of habit. Since the initiation of the phony peace process with the PLO 18 years ago, at their best, Israel’s governments have justified the Jewish state’s control over territories it won control over in the 1967 Six Day War on the basis of our security needs. Without the Jordan Valley, Israel is vulnerable to foreign invasion from the east. Without Gush Etzion to Jerusalem’s south and Gush Adumim to its north, the capital is vulnerable to attack. Without overall Israeli security control over Judea and Samaria, Israel’s population centers are vulnerable to terrorist attacks. And so on and so forth.”

There is something surreal about the coverage of developments this week at the UN. The general tenor is akin to the showdown at the OK Corral. Either the Palestinians win recognition of statehood, or they don’t. If they do, they win. If they don’t, Israel wins.

MARK STEYN: THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT?

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/print/278213 ‘It’s the end of the world as we know it,” sang the popular musical artistes R.E.M. many years ago. And it is. R.E.M. has announced that they’re splitting up after almost a third of a century. But these days who isn’t? The eurozone, the world’s first geriatric boy band, is on the verge of […]

MARTIN SHERMAN: TOM FRIEDMAN A DISINGENUOUS CHARLATAN WITH BLATANT ANTI-ISRAEL BIAS…..***

Into the Fray: ‘Ground Control to Major Tom (Friedman)’
‘New York Times’ columnist Tom Friedman emerging as disingenuous charlatan whose blatant anti-Israeli bias is increasingly detached from reality.

Ground control to Major Tom, your circuits dead,
there’s something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you…

– Radio transmission to a fictional astronaut as he drifts into space, losing contact with Planet Earth… and his grasp on reality – Lyrics from David Bowie’s song “Space Oddity”

In many ways, Barack Obama’s UN address on Wednesday was a catastrophic blow to Tom Friedman’s credibility as an authoritative, well-informed political commentator. Indeed it is difficult to imagine how anything could make it look more like he was caught in an alternative universe, detached from earthly events, than the US president’s resounding endorsement of Israel’s position against the Palestinians’ unilateral attempt at statehood.

TAKE A QUIZ ON QUESTIONS OF NO IMPORTANCE: BURAK BERDIL

http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/index.php Q- Why does Turkey spend around $5 billion every year on new weaponry while it strictly adheres to a policy that calls for zero problems with its neighbors? a) Because it secretly plans to invade Bolivia and, that failing, Papua New Guinea. b) Because it fears military aggression from Armenia and Georgia. c) Because […]

JOSH ROGIN: BILL CLINTON ON A RANT; “NETANAYHU KILLED THE PEACE PROCESS”…SEE NOTE PLEASE

FROM THE PRESIDENT WHO IGNORED TERRORISM AND AL QAEDA AND HAD ARAFAT AS MOST FREQUENT COCKROACH IN THE WHITE HOUSE…..RSK

Who’s to blame for the continued failure of the Middle East peace process? Former President Bill Clinton said today that it is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — whose government moved the goalposts upon taking power, and whose rise represents a key reason there has been no Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.

Clinton, in a roundtable with bloggers today on the sidelines of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, gave an extensive recounting of the deterioration in the Middle East peace process since he pressed both parties to agree to a final settlement at Camp David in 2000. He said there are two main reasons for the lack of a comprehensive peace today: the reluctance of the Netanyahu administration to accept the terms of the Camp David deal and a demographic shift in Israel that is making the Israeli public less amenable to peace.

Mark Safranski is elaborating at his defense issues blog Zenpundit on the problems raised by R2P, Right To Protect, or what I termed “Transnational Elites Uber Alles,” for intervention on humanitarian grounds against those nation’s rulers who our liberal elites dislike. …it extends the uncontrolled reach […]

SARAH HONIG: FROM BAKSHISH TO KHAYBAR?

Another Tack: From bakshish to Khaybar In many ways Egypt-present isn’t like Egypt-past. In many ways nothing in Egypt has changed at all. Herein prevails the paradox. Egypt is a bedeviling composite of the mutating and the immutable. I described its immutability years ago, when recalling my first work assignment to Egypt. In those days peace […]
