A MEMORIAL DAY PAUSE….BLESS AMERICA’S SOLDIERS
SOME WORDS SAY IT BEST:
This is the message sent to my husband’s family on the death of his brother Harold (Heshy)King from wounds suffered in the Normandy Invasion. His other brother George (Gershy) King died on the beach. The President’s message was delivered to his wife Joyce King and infant son Ronald who is now a great grandfather.
IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF PRIVATE FIRST CLASS HAROLD H. KING AMERICAN SOLDIER 32922362
WHO DIED IN THE SERVICE OF HIS COUNTRY IN THE EUROPEAN AREA JULY 10, 1944
HE STANDS IN THEÂ UNBROKEN LINEÂ OF PATRIOTS WHO HAVE DARED TO DIE SO THAT FREEDOM MIGHT LIVE AND GROW AND INCREASE IT’S BLESSINGS. FREEDOM LIVES AND THROUGH IT HE LIVES IN A WAY THAT HUMBLES THE UNDERTAKINGS OF MOST MEN.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, President of the United States of America
Hanah Senesh was a heroine of World War 11, who was imprisoned, tortured and died for her services to the Allied cause. These lines of her last poem are a tribute to all who fall for their nation’s honor and defense:
“Blessed is the match consumed in kindling flame.
Blessed is the flame that burns in the secret fastness of the heart.
Blessed is the heart with strength to stop its beating for honor’s sake.
Blessed is the match consumed in kindling flame. ”
