Islamist threat to “exterminate” Christians again shows that their plans are: Jews first, the rest of the West next
There’s an interesting angle to this weekend’s massacre of dozens of Christians in a Catholic church in Baghdad that I have not seen anyone refer to. According to a story on the BBC website, the attack on the Our Lady of Salvation church was carried out by the Islamic State of Iraq, a Sunni umbrella group related to al-Qaeda.
As the BBC puts it referring to a statement posted by the group on an Islamist website: “The statement reportedly said Iraqi Christians would be “exterminated” if Muslim women in Egypt were not freed. It specifically mentioned two women in Egypt who radicals believe are being held against their will after converting to Islam”. Reports also suggest that the gunmen immediately shot and killed the presiding priest upon storming the church during the evening mass.
There have been many killings of Iraqi Christians in recent years in tandem with church burnings and killings of Christians in other parts of the Islamic world. Of course, they are rarely reported on in the Western media. (This report on Iraq is an exception which can be allowed because in the thinking of the BBC, all violence in Iraq is the responsibilty of the invading Americans). And the reason they are so rarely reported on is the deeply held belief that violent Islamism is merely a response to US or Israeli injustices and has little to do with anything that could be attributed to the perpetrators of Islamist violence themselves.
On the rare occasions that such stories do see the light of day, it is always worth highlighting them further since they illustrate a truth about Islamism that is frequently either passed over in silence or denied. Yes indeed, Israel is in the front line of their assault. But behind that front line there are other battle lines and other enemies. Among those enemies are Christians at worship in their churches or anyone else in the Judeo-Christian tradition that will not bend to the Islamists’ will.
