ABOUT THOSE PAT DOWNS….AS I SEE IT
FIRST: I just love the way that Israel, the target of every blood libel in modern history, is getting a P.R. bounce for their security. All the commentators huff and puff with the recommendations that we use their system. How foolish!! Israeli security personnel speak Arabic and many other languages and can easily disarm a passenger with a sudden question in Arabic or French or English or Russian. They are pros..Now ask yourself about the last airline employee that looked at your shoes or gave you a pat down . Is he/she bilingual? An expert? Know the names of those nations that harbor and enable terrorists, other than the obvious Arab ones? Did they ever hear of Kosovo or Bosnia? Those citizens don’t look like Arabs. Emulating Israel’s system is a good idea….but how long does it take to train people?
SECOND: Many conservatives including myself defend the Arizona immigration laws which, on occasion target the wrong people subjecting them to searches and even harassment. It is a safety and security issue, particularly so close to the ongoing Mexican drug wars which spill into our states. Where is the greater good?
THIRD: Many of the same people, and count me out, are now outraged at the TSA’s scans and pat downs which are admittedly revealing and incorrectly applied in many cases. They have almost made a folk hero of the “dissident” who complained about touching “his junk.” The terror threat is real, and there are enough homegrown terrorists with smiley, friendly faces, so that simple “profiling” is not enough.
FOURTH: Does anyone really think that the TSA personnel are sex fiends waiting to cop a feel? Puleez! Most of them are doing their job…some a little too zealous…but hiding a bomb in panties is never a delicate thing.
FIFTH: Who is responsible for taking our country to these extremes and both terrifying and insulting the public?….Hmmm?
