MY SAY: THE MEDIA DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR A MODERATE…
Yesterday I got hundreds of e-mails of the video where Niall Ferguson goes head to head with a reporter, and about the debate that Robert Spencer had with a Moslem apologist. People don’t want air brushed analyses…they want the facts and are tired of the poster boys for moderation that are on all the shows positively giddy about the events and spreading disinformation. They remind me of Vladimir Posner the American born Russian yuppie that was the star of the broadcasts spreading the lie of Soviet moderation.
I am so tired of those faux experts who discuss the Muslim Brotherhood without historic context as if they emerged just suddenly in 1928. Why don’t we get the story without blinders? Robert Spencer, Andrew Bostom, Andy McCarthy and those like Wafa Sultan, Noni Darwish, Brigitte Gabriel who have “been there and done Islam” should be the regulars on the shows.
The other night I met an Egyptian husband and wife, both Moslems and both scientists and both very secular in dress with cocktails in hand. I somewhat timorously asked how they felt about the “situation” in Egypt and he was very forthcoming. He and his wife studied abroad, he said, thanks to fairly open Mubarak policies on student visas. He was hardly defensive about Mubarak, citing his theft, his iron rule and control of every aspect of citizen’s rights. When I asked about the Moslem Brotherhood, he scoffed at the numbers which would indicate a minority. According to him the Moslem Brotherhood does good “social” work in the community while advancing their agenda, and he thinks most Egyptians would welcome Moslem rule….until they get it and rue the day.
