The Bnei Menashe are coming home!
In a dramatic development, the 2700-year-old dream of India’s Bnei Menashe to make aliyah to Israel has received an unprecedented boost.
After years of lobbying by Shavei Israel, the Ministerial Committee on Immigration and Absorption met in the Prime Minister’s Office and decided to formally draft a government resolution that will permit all of the 7,232 Bnei Menashe remaining in India to move to Israel. The resolution, which is backed by both Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Absorption Minister Sofa Landver, is slated to be submitted to the Israeli cabinet no later than the end of the July.
The move came in response to an appeal from Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund, who addressed the Ministers and called on them to “make history” and bring the Bnei Menashe home.
