Washington, D.C. – DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz [1] released the following statement tonight on the results of the recall election in Wisconsin:
Despite the disappointing outcome of tonight’s election, there is no question that over the past year this recall effort sent a message to Scott Walker that his brand of divisive politics is offensive and wrong. Thousands of Wisconsinites mounted this effort in the face of a flood of out of state, secret and corporate special interest money– amounting to a massive $31 million war chest for Governor Walker to just $4 million on our side.
Readers will recall that Wasserman Schultz was accused of abandoning the Democrat activists to their fate as it became clear there was little hope that Walker could be defeated. The Daily Kos [2] wrote when the recall effort was clearly flagging:
If Walker wins in Wisconsin she apparently believes
“there aren’t going to be any repercussions,”
Because:
“But I think it’ll be, at the end of the day, a Wisconsin-based election, and like I said, across the rest of the country and including in Wisconsin, President Obama is ahead.”
The activists at the Daily Kos could be forgiven for thinking that what Wasserman Schultz really said was “we know Barrett is toast in Wisconsin. If Obama comes anywhere near that debacle he will be tarred with the taint of defeat. Therefore we are going to throw Barrett to the dogs and however many others as we need to so that President Obama can win in November.”
Schultz’s statement continued on a note of confident, almost boastful defiance.
And as we turn our attention to the fall, we will not cede an inch in Wisconsin to Mitt Romney who has been behind in virtually every single recent poll and who wants to go back to the same failed policies of the past from which Wisconsin is recovering. And while we’re not taking anything for granted, if Mitt Romney thinks he’s going to be the first Republican to win Wisconsin since Ronald Reagan he’s got another thing coming.
One wonders who Wasserman Schultz’s speechwriter is. The tone of her statement seems straight out of Radio Tokyo in the closing days of World War 2 when they boasted of having sunk “17 American aircraft carriers, 28 battleships, 73 cruisers and 200 destroyers” without bothering to mention that the supposed fleet action was taking place right off the shores of Japan with completely the opposite results.
It is to be hoped that she actually believes her own press release. But if she doesn’t, so what? It’s all about controlling the narrative isnt it? Well maybe not. Once past a certain point, a system in collapse finds that all of its narratives unintentionally become comedy skits.

The Vetting: Rabbi Arnold J. Wolf, the Socialist, anti-Israel Rabbi Who Taught Obama What He ‘Knows’ About Judaism
Last Tuesday, Israel’s Haaretz newspaper reported that President Barack Obama told a group of visiting Jewish leaders that he “probably knows about Judaism more than any other president, because he read about it.” While that is certainly untrue, Obama continued, suggesting that he should not be questioned about his commitment to the Jewish state because “all his friends in Chicago were Jewish.”
That might very well be true. The question is which Jews? Meet Rabbi Arnold Jacob Wolf.
Author Peter Beinhart, an Obama admirer and critic of Israel whose wife works as Special Assistant and Associate Counsel to the President, and who recently declared Obama to be “the first Jewish president,” discusses Obama’s immersion in Rabbi Wolf’s Jewish radical fringe in his book The Crisis of Zionism:
But Obama was not embedded in the Jewish world; he was embedded in one specific Jewish world — a world of Jews who in the 1960s had opposed segregation and the Vietnam War and after 1967 applied the same liberal democratic principles when it came to Israel. Woven into the life stories of many of the Jews who most influenced the young Barack Obama was a bitter estrangement from the see-no-evil Zionism of the American Jewish establishment. In Chicago, those Jews constituted a geographic and moral community, a community that bred in Obama a specific, and subversive, vision of American Jewish identity and of the Jewish state. And at the heart of it all was Arnold Jacob Wolf.

I hope I understood correctly what Professor Alan Dershowitz intended in his latest attempt to assist Israel gain peace which was published in the Wall Street Journal. Entitled “A Settlement Freeze Can Advance Israeli-Palestinian Peace”, he suggests that “the time is ripe for [Israel’s new coalition] government to make a bold peace offer to the Palestinian Authority.”
But what he considers bold could be considered by others as perhaps, well, naive and even irrational. And not clever at all. He writes there that since the “Palestinian Authority refuses to negotiate unless Israel accepts a ‘freeze’ on settlement building” and, since “Israel accepted a 10-month freeze in 2009, but the Palestinian Authority didn’t come to the bargaining table” and when it “demanded that the freeze be extended indefinitely” and “Israel refused”, well, “they walked away from the table…[and] there is every reason to believe that they would continue such game-playing if the Israeli government imposed a similar freeze now…”.
