Survivors for Hamas – Really? Jack Engelhard
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/15566 I do not know who they are, these people. They are not my people. My sister is writing her memoir about what happened. In Toulouse, Sarah woke up one morning to find everything changed. None of that brotherhood with Hitler spared anyone from the ovens.Germans were directing traffic in this fabled French town. Quite a sight for a 9-year-old on her way to school. I was born a month after Hitler invaded, July 20, 1940. After a tortuous sequence of events, we escaped over the Pyrenees. My father carried me on his back in a backpack. My mouth was stuffed with cotton in case I cried out and alerted the Gestapo, which were hounding our footsteps. My parents, Noah and Ida, never fully recovered. I provide details of this elsewhere. For now I mention this to indicate that Holocaust survivors come in various shades. None of us “owns” the Holocaust. I make it a practice never to judge Holocaust survivors, mainly those who endured the camps. They have special rights. But do those rights extend to openly blaspheme the Jewish State? As these purported Holocaust survivors go public in their denunciation of Israel, have they lost their immunity? Do I have the right to strike back? I don’t know. It is risky. But I cannot remain silent. I am reading about certain Holocaust survivors who have grouped together to blame Israel for everything under the sun. To further rub it in, they openly declare their love and pity for the Islamist terror group Hamas. The slander was gladly picked up by the BBC and Britain’s The Guardian, whose headline reads like this: “Holocaust Survivors and their Descendants Accuse Israel of Genocide.” They number around 300 and call themselves the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network. In published remarks for The New York Times they say, “We must raise our collective voices and use our collective power to bring about an end to all forms of racism, including the ongoing genocide of Palestinian people.” From what planet does this come? How does logic get so twisted and how can people who saw unspeakable genocide straight up make such false claims? People like Jimmy Carter aren’t enough so we need people like this into the bargain? This attack can only arouse more baseless resentment and is sure to boomerang upon the provocateurs. This scornfulness – certainly it is not for the sake of heaven. Where will you run to safety when the midnight knock on the door comes again – to Israel, no doubt. Do these people not know the UN, that it condemns Israel more often than the rest of the world combined? Have they not read the newspapers that defame Israel every day of the week through cartoons, editorials and false reporting beginning with The New York Times? Have they not heard that Israel is surrounded by barbarians beginning with Hamas? Even CNN and the BBC cannot hide from ISIS genocides taking place at this moment against Christians and Kurds across Syria and Iraq. In Israel it’s war against the Jews, or has word not filtered down that Hamas declares, in its charter, that its goal is to wipe Israel and all Jews off the map. ISIS and Hamas are brothers in butchery…or does a particular grievance blind some people to the obvious? Had these naysayers whispered their differences with Israel around the kitchen table, that would have been one story. But to shout from the rooftops, that is another story. To me this means something else itches, something else hurts, but it is beyond my pay scale to figure out the problem. I can only conclude that these particular Holocaust survivors are frauds. They are fakes. I do not know who they are, these people. They are not my people. Are they even Jewish? Or are they actors set up by arch-anti-Semite Russell Brand? Whoever they are, they do themselves no glory… and if they think they have bought for themselves safety and new friends by wrapping themselves around the Palestinian Arab flag, they are advised to think again. None of that brotherhood with Hitler spared anyone from the ovens. For this Holocaust survivor, Israel is the beacon. Israel is the light unto the nations. Because of Israel we all stand taller – everywhere around the world. Because of Israel never again means never again. I do have my own complaint. If only we had the IDF in Toulouse… Jack Engelhard writes a regular column for Arutz Sheva.
