American Voters Shot The Messenger: Jack Engelhard

The News Media also got trounced.
Along with trashing the Democrats, voters on Tuesday also dumped on the news media for failure to communicate.
For failure to deliver the truth, Elite Media were snubbed by a citizenry that said keep your opinions to yourselves. This time we’re going it alone.
Never mind your sly front pages and your cunning editorials. We are on to your tricks.
…not once did The New York Times run a headline or an opinion piece critical of the president.
Throughout the land, The Majority pushed buttons or pulled levers to register their disgust with corrupt journalism and to declare their disdain for reportage that for years, by hook or by crook, kept Americans in the dark. Americans voted No to the bellyful of deceit that came through airwaves and by newsprint.
From ballot to ballot, Americans said, “We don’t trust you either.”
Americans arrived at the polling booths understanding that the press is supposed to provide illumination rather than stumbling blocks.
So perhaps it is true that you can’t fool all the people all the time. Well, at least this time Americans had had enough…enough with the evasions, enough with the fabrications, enough with playing us for suckers, enough with providing only half the news fit to print.
Where’s the rest of the story so that we can figure it out on our own and not have to depend on your particular leftward slant?
That was the question and by their votes, Americans gave an overwhelming response. They threw out the bums and ignored the editorialists.
Throughout the Obama years and still to this moment, not once did The New York Times run a headline or an opinion piece critical of the president. There was no Woodward. There was no Bernstein. There was no Edward R. Murrow to do the digging when overnight America was presented with a healthcare system manufactured in the dark.
Elite Media remained silent and kept sleeping with the White House. No administration has ever had such a free hand. No administration has ever had a Fourth Estate so compliant that scandal after scandal never reached the public, except through Fox News.
Scandals kept being brushed aside. Elite Media didn’t want to know. The White House Press Corps was (and is) a particular joke.
No wonder the White House can deal clandestinely with Iran, bypassing and endangering Israel, America’s only true friend in the Middle East.
We have it from CBS veteran Sharyl Attkisson how CBS News kept viewers semi-informed or completely uninformed. She spent 10 years with the network. An award-winning anchor and reporter, she quit when she could not get her stories to air – stories unfavorable to the administration.
So she had to resign and she had to write a book to reveal her scoops. The book is titled “Stonewalled.”
Here is the subtitle: “My fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation and Harassment in Obama’s Washington.”
(I might suggest another inside-the-newsroom tell-all “The Bathsheba Deadline.”)
So Atkisson had to leave the building to tell the truth as she discovered it – which brings to mind Samizdat.
That is how information was passed around in the Soviet Union, under the table, when truth was considered dangerous.
They had no First Amendment over there, and still don’t, and no Freedom of the Press exists along 100 other places around the world.
Our freedoms make us exceptional when we stick to those freedoms. Otherwise we invite tyranny.
This time, Americans said no thanks. We’ll take our chances with liberty.
