PEACE IN OUR TERM: BY HILEL SALOMON

No url….Professor (Ret.)Hilel Salomon is my e-pal/brother.

Just as I was ready to discontinue my criticism of President Obama and return to my scribblings on other issues, I find that once again, I overestimated him. I took Obama at his word for the 25 odd times (I have the exact dates) where he assured us that he would never tolerate a nuclear Iran. This was clearly a case of campaign or money raising rhetoric and we know that he doesn’t take such things seriously (unless they are coming from Netanyahu). Even the Washington Post’s editorial points out that Obama’s Iran deal fails to deliver on his promises, ending with: “We hope Mr. Obama will make as much effort to engage in good faith with skeptical allies and domestic critics as he has with the Iranian regime.”

President Obama tells us, with great confidence. that even if Iran cheats, it would still be a year away from having an actual bomb. Of course, he is going to have to explain that logic to Saudi Arabia , Egypt and Turkey who will be clamoring to have their own nuclear weapons. He won’t bother trying to convince Israel of how good a deal this is. They know that if Iran cheats, it would take quite a while to recognize this and an even longer period to do anything about it. By then, it would be too late. If any congressmen dare to oppose this deal, they better have their tax accountants and lawyers on the ready. Ask Menendez and Chaffetz what a vindictive federal government can achieve.

Our President’s diplomacy has forced Iran to be months away from making an atomic bomb-which-if I’m not mistaken-is pretty much where we were before the arduous negotiations began. In other words, we won’t have a disaster until we have a disaster. It is somewhat like running a marathon on a treadmill. You end up where you started without having gone anywhere. Iran gets to keep most of its uranium enrichment facilities, continues its nuclear development and remains mere steps away from having nuclear weapons. Furthermore, it can continue to expand its control over Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen as well as sponsor terrorism abroad. In return, the US and other countries will lift their embargoes , embrace the Iranians and sing Kumbaya.

The White House apologists have been warning us that even a bad deal is better than no deal, which is probably a quote from Neville Chamberlain’s autobiography. Perhaps some of Obama’s advisers, maybe even the reverend Al Charlatan. might point out that the expression is supposed to be “Peace in Our Time” and not “Peace in my Term.”

President Obama, as an “expert” on Islam, has frequently asserted that it is a religion of peace, and he has also pointed out that the Iranian leadership has issued a fatwa against the use of nuclear weapons. Somehow he has managed to be unaware  of the Koranic tenet of Taqiyya, which holds that it is a sin to lie, except when it is necessary, especially when dealing with non-believers. The man who embraced Bergdahl’s father in a photo-op at the White House, knowing that the father encouraged his son to defect to the Taliban, is now prepared to hug the Iranian Imams who have vowed to destroy the US.   The Republicans are wrong to state that Obama doesn’t love this country. What is true, however, is that his naiveté and incompetence, coupled with an incredible arrogance will leave the US and our real allies in jeopardy. His vaunted legacy may be even worse than we have previously feared.
