Ron DeSantis signals 2024 bid with new book by Paul Bedard
Following a well-worn path into presidential politics, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signaled his bid Wednesday by announcing the publication of his autobiography and political blueprint.
HarperCollins Publishers said its imprint, Broadside, will publish The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival in late February.
“In The Courage to Be Free, Governor Ron DeSantis chronicles the most consequential decisions of his life and public service, including turning the Sunshine State into the promised land for millions of Americans. He has become one of America’s most closely watched officeholders, having delivered a historic, record-setting 2022 gubernatorial victory, winning by nearly 20 points and more than 1.5 million votes,” said the publishing giant.
Typically, potential presidential candidates issue autobiographies a year or two before elections as a stage setter for campaigns, and the DeSantis book sounds like a fit. Most include a personal review of their life and accomplishments and how it would guide them should they win higher office.
Consider how the publisher described it in a statement just released:
“The Courage to Be Free will cover key moments in his life, including growing up in a working-class family, playing in the Little League World Series, working his way through Yale University and Harvard Law School, volunteering for the Navy after 9/11, and serving in Iraq. He will also share details about his marriage to Casey, their three children, and Casey’s battle with cancer. This book will center on critical issues that brought him to the center of the debate over the future of our country. He shares his thinking from when he was fighting back against COVID mandates and restrictions, critical race theory, woke corporations, and the partisan legacy media. He chronicles his bold, substantial policy achievements: enacting trend-setting education reforms, reducing taxes while generating a record-setting budget surplus, taking strong stances on immigration and law and order, ushering in a new era of conservation for Florida’s treasured natural resources, and appointing conservatives judges to top Florida courts.”
“Governor Ron DeSantis writes, ‘What Florida has done is establish a blueprint for governance that has produced tangible results while serving as a rebuke to the entrenched elites who have driven our nation into the ground. Florida is proof positive that we, the people are not powerless in the face of these elites.’”
Broadside has created a page to preorder the book, DeSantisbook.com, and even offered up a preview.
