Terror Group to Hold Canadian Conference on Overthrowing West Tolerance of the intolerant is suicidal. by Mark Tapson

Baby-faced Canadian tyrant Justin Trudeau may have finally relinquished power, but his country is still in the grip of a suicidal wokeness, an anti-Western multiculturalism that threatens to hollow it out from within – as wokeness is designed to do. The most recent case in point: Ontario will be hosting a conference this week organized by what other countries have deemed an international terrorist group: Hizb ut-Tahrir. The event’s theme is “eliminating the obstacles that are delaying [the] return” of an Islamic caliphate.
Unless government action is taken to prevent it, Hizb ut-Tahrir (Arabic for the “Party of Liberation”) will be hosting its annual Khilafah (Caliphate) Conference on January 18 in Hamilton, Ontario, after a public outcry forced it to move from its original planned location in Mississauga. The precise location of the conference will be available only to attendees who register via Eventbrite.
“Is America really so powerful that our Ummah [the worldwide Muslim community] can’t defeat it?” the group wrote in a post on Facebook:
There have been superpower states in the past too, like the Romans and the Persians; yet, they were defeated by the Ummah. Their great cities, like Constantinople, are now Muslim cities.
The post went on state, “Learn what it will take for our Ummah to overcome America, Europe, Russia, China, and others from the position we’re in today. If you want to help create real change in our Ummah, then get this critical knowledge by attending, inshaAllah.”
A spokesperson for HuT claims in a promotional video, which has since been deleted from the group’s website, “The colonialists will point to their technology, vast armies, giant economies, and their pervasive influence. However, none of this ‘power’ compares to the might of Allah. It doesn’t even stand against the strength Allah has given our Ummah.”
That all sounds rather threatening. Are the Canadian authorities too feckless to take a stand?
As noted in the Freedom Center’s Discover the Networks HuT profile, Hizb ut-Tahrir defines itself as a “political party whose ideology is Islam”:
Hizb-ut-Tahrir’s long-term objective is to replace existing governments with theocratic Muslim rule and to bring about a worldwide Islamic government under a single ruler (caliph). In such an ideal Islamic state, says Hizb-ut-Tahrir, “all of life’s affairs in society are administered according to the Shari’ah rules,” or strict Islamic law.

Moreover, the organization professes a devotion to “the struggle against the disbelieving imperialists, to deliver the Ummah from their domination and to liberate her from their influence by uprooting their intellectual, cultural, political, economic and military roots from all of the Muslim countries.”
Hizb-ut-Tahrir asserts that… “jihad has to continue till the Day of Judgement.” “So whenever the disbelieving enemies attack an Islamic country,” says Hizb, “it becomes compulsory on its Muslim citizens to repel the enemy. The members of Hizb-ut-Tahrir in that country are a part of the Muslims and it is obligatory upon them … to fight the enemy and repel them.”
HuT is outlawed in Russia, Germany, France, the Netherlands, the UK, and Muslim countries (including Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia) that regard it as a subversive terrorist organization that seeks to overthrow their governments.
“Hizb ut-Tahrir is an antisemitic organization that actively promotes and encourages terrorism, including praising and celebrating the appalling 7 October attacks,” British Home Secretary James Cleverly said in January 2024 when announcing his country’s ban.
But unlike the UK, Canada has not chosen to ban the group, so Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada is moving forward with its Khilafah Conference.
Hizb ut-Tahrir’s American branch held a similar Conference in Chicago in March 2024. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) noted the Chicago event “featured speakers who called for an army to invade and destroy Israel, justified the October 7 Hamas terror attack, suggested men should travel to Gaza to fight Israel,” and included some “overt antisemitic rhetoric.”
“We are urging the government and national security authorities to prevent Hizb ut-Tahrir from using Canada as a platform for its dangerous agenda,” Noah Shack of the Center for Israel and Jewish Affairs told Canada’s National Post.
The Hamilton Jewish Federation said it urged the Mayor’s office to “respond decisively and swiftly” to the conference. Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center president Michael Levitt said, “This organization speaks to the extremism and radicalization that are becoming increasingly visible and toxic to Canadian society, posing a serious threat to our shared values and public safety through its hateful rhetoric and incitement.”
B’nai Brith Canada denounced the Khilafah Conference as “a platform for radicalization and hatred” and said it would work with Canadian government at every level to get the meeting canceled.
“We are working to have the conference shut down, but if it isn’t, we will be outside protesting a conference that has declared war against Western civilization, which includes Jews, Christians, Sikhs. Hindus and all non-believers, including Muslims who don’t follow this barbaric doctrine,” Meir Weinstein of Israel Now promised.
Hizb ut-Tahrir Canada predictably rejected all this criticism as “false” and “baseless”:
The accusations linking the party to terrorism, extremism and violent activities are fabrications aimed at tarnishing its reputation and distracting from its call to establish Islam as a comprehensive system of governance and mercy for humanity.
Why does any Western state tolerate such an organization to operate and further this goal in its midst? Liberal democracy need not be so tolerant and inclusive as to embrace suicide. As historian Arnold Toynbee famously put it, civilizations die by suicide, not by murder. It’s a no-brainer: if the West wants to survive, much less thrive, it must draw a line in the sand and stamp out subversive organizations like Hizb ut-Tahrir and the movement to establish worldwide sharia law.
