How can that be? Here is the blunt explanation: We have lost a third of the country and, as […]

Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy — Poster Boys for the War on Women
Clinton spoke at the Democratic National Convention to save Barack Obama’s failed presidency. But did he instead remind the American people that he mistreated women — from an intern who was the same age of his daughter to his wife who had to grin and bear his infidelity in public? Clinton had sex with an impressionable and vulnerable young woman who was serving as a White House intern. He abused his authority in the same way some teachers abuse their authority by having sex with their students. Then there were the charges of rape by Juanita Broaddrick:
“Michael Isikoff’s book, Uncovering Clinton, and Christopher Hitchens’ book, No One Left to Lie To, argued that Broaddrick’s claim is credible and shows similarities to Paula Jones’ later allegation of sexual harassment. Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen commented, ‘And yet, I cannot get [Broaddrick’s] accusation out of my head. On television, and in interviews with newspaper reporters, Broaddrick appeared credible.’”
Then there’s Democrat Ted Kennedy of Chappaquiddick infamy. The Democrats played a video tribute to the womanizer at the Convention, putting aside his war on women actions. Former Kennedy speechwriter and campaign operative Bob Shrum said in an interview that “over a long period of time” Kennedy was a “a liberal lion, entirely principled” who “could actually get things done.”
A “long period of time” is right. The Chappaquiddick story is so well known that the words “Ted Kennedy” and “Chappaquiddick” are inseparably linked for all time. But there are many people who don’t know the story.
Kennedy was most likely driving under the influence on the evening of July 18, 1969, when he drove his car off Dike Bridge and into Poucha Pond, leaving Mary Jo Kopechne, a young campaign worker, to drown. To add to the tragedy, Kennedy left the scene of the accident and did not report it to the police until 9:45 the next morning. Kennedy hoped to contrive a story that would put Kopechne in the driver’s seat and absolve him of criminal neglect for driving too fast for conditions and under the influence.

Hedge Fund Manager Strikes Back at Obama
By ZACHERY KOUWE

Clifford S. Asness is not afraid to defend himself against attacks from the Obama administration. The outspoken managing partner of AQR Capital Management, a $20 billion hedge fund in Greenwich, Conn., has written a scathing letter striking back at President Obama for his harsh words blaming hedge funds for Chrysler’s bankruptcy.
The letter is making its way around Wall Street, where it’s being met with cheers from other hedge funds managers, one of whom sent it to DealBook. Among other things, Mr. Asness said he was “aghast at the president’s comments” and called them “backwards and libelous.”
Read the full text of the letter after the jump.
Unafraid In Greenwich Connecticut
Clifford S. Asness
Managing and Founding Principal

The President has just harshly castigated hedge fund managers for being unwilling to take his administration’s bid for their Chrysler bonds. He called them “speculators” who were “refusing to sacrifice like everyone else” and who wanted “to hold out for the prospect of an unjustified taxpayer-funded bailout.”
The responses of hedge fund managers have been, appropriately, outrage, but generally have been anonymous for fear of going on the record against a powerful President (an exception, though still in the form of a “group letter,” was the superb note from “The Committee of Chrysler Non-TARP Lenders,” some of the points of which I echo here, and a relatively few firms, like Oppenheimer, that have publicly defended themselves). Furthermore, one by one the managers and banks are said to be caving to the President’s wishes out of justifiable fear.
I run an approximately twenty billion dollar money management firm that offers hedge funds as well as public mutual funds and unhedged traditional investments. My company is not involved in the Chrysler situation, but I am still aghast at the President’s comments (of course, these are my own views, not those of my company). Furthermore, for some reason I was not born with the common sense to keep it to myself, though my title should more accurately be called “Not Afraid Enough” as I am indeed fearful writing this… It’s really a bad idea to speak out.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/printpage/?url=http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/09/08/obamas_same_old_same_old_115378.html Perhaps the reason for President Obama’s flat and energy-less speech Thursday night — TV cameras panning the convention floor actually showed delegates falling asleep — was that he already knew Friday’s jobs numbers were going to be a disaster. The August unemployment report completely punctured his argument that if you just give him four […]
http://pjmedia.com/rogerkimball/2012/09/06/clinton%e2%80%99s-speech-nasty-brutish-and-long/?singlepage=true Thomas Hobbes famously said that man in the “state of nature” faced a life that was “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.” It was the state, Hobbes thought, that beneficently intervened in that dour free-for-all and made civilized life possible. Hobbes was probably right about that, but what would he have thought of the […]
Frank Tipler on Muslim Contributions to Physics and Astronomy
http://www.answeringmuslims.com/2012/09/frank-tipler-on-muslim-contributions-to.html
Frank Tipler is a world-class mathematician, physicist, and cosmologist. Here are his thoughts on some popular claims about Islamic contributions to physics and astronomy.
PJ MEDIA–In his speech to the Muslim world in Cairo, President Barack Obama claimed: “As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam. It was Islam — at places like Al-Azhar University — that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe’s Renaissance and Enlightenment. It was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing.”
Obama is not much of a “student of history” if he believes this. Almost every advance he attributes to the Muslims was due to someone else.
The non-Muslim Chinese invented the magnetic compass and printing (Gutenberg invented not printing, but movable type). The non-Muslim Hindu Indians invented algebra and the decimal numbering system. The non-Muslim European Christians invented the university.
I can’t address advances in medicine, but I have studied the history of astronomy and physics. The Muslims contributed nothing.

A Nashville woman was charged with attempted terrorism Friday after investigators said she threatened to hurt co-workers at the South Nashville Dell facility last weekend.
The trouble began when a CEVA Logistics employee said his co-worker Amal Ahmed Abdullahi, 29, of Zermatt Avenue, approached him during his shift last Saturday.
According to a release from Metro police, Abdullahi told the employee that “her people were dying for Allah every day; that she was ready to die for Allah; that this whole country will be Muslim soon; that this country is full of non-believers and that this place (her work place) is full of non-believers; that all unbelievers should die; that her life starts after death; that her life is not here, nobody pays attention to her and she should pick up a gun and shoot all these people.”
CEVA Logistics signed the arrest warrant as the prosecutor against Abdullahi, accusing her of intimidating/coercing a civilian population.
Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said Friday that he was not immediately aware of anyone previously being charged with attempted terrorism in Nashville.
