‘Out of Sight, Out of Mind’: The Border Crisis Is Still With Us Despite the Media Blackout By Rick Moran

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2023/06/25/out-of-sight-out-of-mind-the-border-crisis-is-still-with-us-despite-the-media-blackout-n1706119

Hot Air’s Jazz Shaw reminds us that the Biden administration is still touting the drop in illegal crossings at the border. A Politico story from early this month gave an account of the White House end zone dance about its “plan” to deal with the end of Title 42 working so well.

“The Department of Homeland Security said that since the lifting of the public health order known as Title 42 at midnight May 12, unlawful border crossings have plummeted by more than 70 percent. In a press release, the Biden administration cited its ‘execution’ of a plan that paired tough consequences for unlawful entry with an expansion of lawful pathways and processes for migrants in the hemisphere.”

It should be noted that the Biden administration altered the definition of “unlawful border crossing.” It vastly expanded legal pathways to enter the country, including the addition of a phone app that could be used to make an appointment with a border patrol agent.

They’re just as “illegal” as they were before because they still have to show up in front of an immigration judge and plead their case.

And the Border Patrol still counts those entries as an “encounter,” meaning that for the month of May, 204,000 illegal alien “encounters” occurred at the border.

As you can see, border encounters in the month of May were slightly lower than in the same month last year. (Approximately 200K versus 240K.) But that’s still 20K higher than in 2021 and nearly ten times higher than in 2020. And there are still four months left in the current fiscal year. We’re on track to still set another record. And even if we don’t we’ll still wind up well above two million, which is completely unacceptable.

Migrant Crossings Surge 25% At Key Border Ports As Biden Admin Pushes Phone App

Migrant crossings at the ports of entry along the southern border increased roughly 25% between April and May as the Biden administration pushes an entry program through a phone application, according to new data U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released Tuesday.

The number of migrants jumped from roughly 28,000 in April to nearly 35,000 in May, according to CBP data. The Biden administration has increasingly pushed migrants to use a phone application known as CBP One to book appointments for entry at U.S. ports along the southern border following the end of Title 42 on May 11.

There were 28,696 migrants that appeared for CBP One appointments at the ports in May, according to CBP.

A sign is posted at the U.S. Border Patrol station where lawyers reported that detained migrant children had been held unbathed and hungry on June 26, 2019 in Clint, Texas. Nearly 100 children were sent back to the troubled facility yesterday after it had been cleared of 249 children just days earlier. Illegal border crossers so far this year outnumber the population of 8 states By Bethany Blankley

https://www.thecentersquare.com/national/article_3227124e-0b78-11ee-9599-97d6d9962e84.html

At least 1.2 million people have been apprehended or reported evading capture at the southern border in the first five months of this year, according to data obtained and analyzed by The Center Square.

The estimate is based on official apprehension data reported by U.S. Customs and Border Protection as well as gotaway data. A Border Patrol agent provides this data exclusively to The Center Square on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal. Gotaways are those who illegally enter the U.S. and intentionally seek to evade capture. Border Patrol agents report those who have illegally entered and evaded capture based on several factors. CBP doesn’t publicly report gotaway data.

Gotaways are averaging roughly 60,000 per month, according to data analyzed by The Center Square. However, these numbers are believed to be higher for several reasons, including the fact that far fewer agents are out in the field and aren’t able to identify the tracks of those who’ve gotten away. Federal, state and local law enforcement officers have no idea who or where they are, or how many of them are known, suspected terrorists or violent gang members and criminals, those in law enforcement tell The Center Square.

Combined, the monthly totals are greater than the individual populations of eight U.S. states, two states more than last month when illegal border crossers in 2023 totaled more than the populations of six states.

At least 240,256 foreign nationals were apprehended or reported evading capture after illegally entering the southwest border in May, according to preliminary data obtained by The Center Square. The preliminary data excludes Office of Field Operations data and only includes Border Patrol data. The total increases after CBP publishes its official data because it includes OFO data.

Bidenites quietly drop DNA requirement for illegal border crossers claiming to be ‘families’ By Monica Showalter

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2023/06/bidenites_quietly_drop_dna_requirement_for_illegal_border_crossers_claiming_to_be_families.html

If the recent scandal of migrant child labor in the U.S. ever bothered the Bidenites, you wouldn’t know it from their latest idiocy on admission of illegal border crossers into the U.S.

According to the Immigration Reform Law Institute’s Brian Lonergan, writing for American Greatness:

… as of May 31, the federal government ended familial DNA testing at the southern border. Don’t expect to hear about this on the news, but it is a move that will have tragic consequences while also revealing the galling cruelty and hypocrisy of the Biden Administration.

Lonergan explained what’s been going on that prompted a need for it:

Because recent U.S. immigration policy has favored family units over individuals crossing illegally, cartels have begun to “rent” children to their migrant customers looking to enter the United States. Once the migrants successfully cross the border, the children are then recycled back to Mexico and assigned to another client.

Along the way, these “rentals” are often subjected to violence and sexual abuse. Breaker boys, children who worked in coal mines in late 19th century America, faced an easier predicament by comparison.

In other words, the cartels are running a rent-a-kid operation in order to get illegal border crossers into the interior of the country as a “family unit” which the Biden administration is still allowing, despite its claims about running a tougher border operation after the end of Title 42.

The kids are used as fodder to get an illegal migrant into the U.S., and then recycled back to Mexico to “serve” as another phony parent’s kid, and abused horribly in the process. For some, when they get too recognizable to Border Patrol agents, they are eventually shipped into the states as “unaccompanied children.”

The Morning Briefing: No Pity for Sanctuary Cities That Are Forced to Put Up or Shut Up By Stephen Kruiser

We have discussed many times the fact that, whenever one awful Democrat is removed from power, a worse one will step in and fill the void. The current prime example of that is the city of Chicago, which gave commie mayor Lori Lightfoot the boot after one term, only to replace her with Brandon Johnson, a teachers’ union puppet.

Johnson is now having to deal with what the Dems like to call a migrant problem. I’m an old-fashioned guy who has spent his life living in border states so I would refer to it as an illegal alien problem.

Catherine has the details of the latest from the Windy City:

In the latest example of how Democrats care more about illegal aliens breaking America’s laws than about American citizens, the Chicago City Council just approved $51 million in aid to illegal migrants, a sum expected to last for a single month. And the residents of the city are not happy, to put it mildly.

The new funding is on top of $102 million already spent on migrants since January, Fox32 Chicago reported. Aldermen voted 34-13 to pass the new funding Wednesday, and Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement, “Chicago is facing a humanitarian crisis as individuals and families continue to be sent here and other Democratic-led cities across the country without regard for their well-being.” Chicago is a sanctuary city but seemed surprised when expected to behave as a sanctuary city.

New York’s Migrant Influx Tests the Sanctuary City’s Limits Already Mayor Eric Adams is asking a judge to excuse the city from its court-approved ‘right to shelter.’ Jason Riley

When Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began busing illegal immigrants to Northern cities last year, he said he wanted to call out progressive sanctuary-city elitism and draw more attention to a humanitarian crisis with which border states have been struggling for decades. Mr. Abbott has succeeded and then some.

Big-city Democrats who once dismissed the complaints of Republican officials such as Mr. Abbott are now begging for mercy. Chicago declared a state of emergency in the wake of its migrant influx, and the District of Columbia was compelled to establish an Office of Migrant Services. Earlier this month in New York, which has seen the arrival of more than 70,000 undocumented migrants since last spring, Mayor Eric Adams asked a judge to allow the city to suspend its longstanding “right to shelter” rule.

“It is in the best interest of everyone, including those seeking to come to the United States, to be upfront that New York City cannot single-handedly provide care to everyone crossing our border,” Mr. Adams said in a statement. “Being dishonest about this will only result in our system collapsing, and we need our government partners to know the truth and do their share.”

New York is spending an estimated $5 million a day to house and feed these new arrivals. It tried placing them in homeless shelters, which quickly filled to capacity. Next, they were sent to hotels, dormitories and even unused jail cells. Mr. Adams tried persuading upstate counties to accept some of the migrants, but he lacks jurisdiction to force the issue and pushback has been stiff. The courts may be his last option.

New York’s right-to-shelter rule is the product of a 1979 lawsuit brought by homeless advocates. In a subsequent settlement, the city agreed to provide universal housing to men, and later to women and families. Because of the settlement, the state’s top court never issued a ruling on the matter. “One presumes that the city settled the case to avoid the inflexibility that a final high court ruling would have created,” the Manhattan Institute’s Nicole Gelinas wrote in City Journal recently. “But in the current crisis, the city has done nothing with the flexibility that it retains.”

U.S. Spent $13 Billion Sponsoring Unaccompanied Minor Children At The Border Since 2012 Adam Andrzejewki

Breaking news: Last year, the feds spent $2.7 billion – roughly $18,000 per unaccompanied child at the border. For context, the average cost of education in Texas K-12 schools was $9,800 per student.

The chaos on America’s southern border has had unintended consequence – a human catastrophe hurting tens of thousands of unaccompanied, defenseless children.

Despite generous taxpayer funding, the federal infrastructure to provide for these children and ensure their safety is woefully incompetent.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), a part of the Administration for Children and Families, provides social services for unaccompanied children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

Earlier this year the office came under fire for reports children were being placed with abusive “sponsors” and made to work full time in grueling conditions, violating child labor laws. An Inspector General report released in 2023 additionally criticized the agency for not conducting background checks on employees and contractors charged with caring for children.

Our Great Illegal Immigration Mythologies. Part Three Victor Davis Hanson

Myth #3: The Noble Illegal Immigrant

Somehow from all the photos of the thousands swarming into across the border, we have constructed the would-be illegal alien into a nobility of sorts. But well aside from the hypocrisy—we fired military personnel who chose not to be vaccinated, but welcomed in illegal aliens who have no proof of vaccination, or a negative Covid-19 test—what is noble about 1) deliberately breaking U.S. law to enter our country, 2) deliberately breaking U.S. law by residing in a country in which one has no legal authority to do so, 3) obtaining fraudulent IDs and documents to perpetuate 1) and 2)?

Moreover, what about the legal immigrant, the law-abiding individual who plays our fool by waiting years to enter our country lawfully, and is subject to all sort of intrusive audits and questioning? Is it such a noble thing to cut in front of the line and swarm the counter, while the law-abiding remains in line, assured that he will almost never be served?

So much of our media propaganda is perniciously false. We are told repeatedly aliens are starving and without food. But from photos of entrants, the chief medical worry is more likely obesity than starvation and too many cell phones rather than none at all. According to most surveys, Mexico has one of the highest obesity rates in the world. California hospitals discover that 3 out of 4 admittees are found upon admission, for any cause, to be pre-diabetic or actually suffering from diabetes. If one examines the explosion in Medicaid budgets in the border states or the inability to easily access public services, illegal immigration is often the unspoken culprit.

And is this surprising? In a post-modern society, when an entrant arrives 1) illegally, 2) without English fluency, 3) without a background check, 4) without a high-school diploma, 5) without valuable skill sets, 6) without capital, and 7) in non-diverse fashion—then what is he supposed to do for support other than crowd the entitlement offices and hope that the sympathetic staff (the greater the number of illegals the greater the budgets of these bureaucracies) of these various state and federal offices liberally dispense their largess?

Harvard Poll: Nearly 70 Percent of Americans Want a Secure Border By Eric Lendrum

https://amgreatness.com/2023/05/22/harvard-poll-nearly-70-percent-of-americans-want-a-secure-border/

According to a recent Harvard/Harris poll, nearly 70 percent of all Americans want to see tougher border policies implemented to stop the ongoing mass migration crisis.

Breitbart reports that 68 percent of all respondents want to see the border locked down, including 73 percent of independents in swing states. Those polled gave their answers once they were told the following information:

“Over 2.75 million came into the United States illegally over a twelve-month period ending September 2022, and more than 1.2 million have crossed since then. Given these numbers, should the administration continue its current policies or issue new, stricter policies to reduce the flow of people coming across the border?”

Independents overwhelmingly oppose the open border, with 57 percent stating that Biden’s pro-immigration stance is facilitating the mass smuggling of lethal drugs into the country; 53 percent of overall respondents feel the same way. Overall, 27 percent of respondents listed immigration as their top issue, making it the second-highest-ranked issue for respondents, only behind 34 percent who ranked inflation as their top priority.

But when broken down by party affiliation, the poll still found that as many as 48 percent of Democrats still support the current open-borders policies of the Biden Administration, which have directly contributed to the flood of illegal aliens that has been storming the southern border since Biden first took power over two years ago.

Our Great Illegal Immigration Mythologies. Part One Victor Davis Hanson

Myth #1: Mexico is our “partner.”

Joe Biden has recently praised President Andrés Manuel López Obrador as working hand-in-glove with him to alleviate the influx of illegal immigrants crossing into the U.S. from his country. In fact, Obrador is one of the main reasons there have been over seven million illegal entries since Biden took office. Obrador wants illegal immigration. He said as much when he giddily bragged that 40 million of his own countrymen had fled to the U.S. Would not a balanced leader regret the loss of over 30 percent of his current population? He urged such expatriates to vote Democratic, a direct interference in the internal affairs of the United States but ignored by the media since it has found such meddling useful. And why Obrador’s interference in our affairs? Because it is to Mexico’s advantage to destroy the border. Why so? Let us count the ways:

1) Mexico receives an astounding $60 billion in remittances from its citizens and residents in the U.S.—the largest source of its foreign exchange. Consider that weird statistic: Mexico’s main export is not food, oil, natural gas—but its own people, as in exporting human beings! Note especially that our local, state, and federal governments subsidize much of these remittances. Americans provide housing/education/legal/food/healthcare entitlements to illegal immigrants to free up their cash to send back to Mexico. Could we not at least tax the $60 billion at 10 percent? Or at least prohibit those on U.S. public assistance from sending money back to Mexico?

2) Mexican intellectuals and academics talk nonstop of the lost lands stolen by Yanquis, especially in the 1846–48 Mexican War. In their view, demography is doing what the 19th century did in reverse: reclaiming Aztlán by destroying the border. Such irredentism is encouraged by Mexico.
