As soon as President Biden took office, the number of foreigners crossing the southern U.S. border illegally exploded. When asked about it in his first press conference in March 2021, Biden brushed it off, saying “this happens every year” and “nothing has changed.”

Later that same month, Biden claimed that “this new surge we’re dealing with now started with the last administration, but it’s our responsibility to deal with it humanely and to — and to stop what’s happening.”

At his State of the Union address this year, he said that “if we are to advance liberty and justice, we need to secure the border and fix the immigration system.”

The surest sign that public policies are simply virtue signals is when the messages don’t cost anything. The easiest way to tell when that signal starts to fail is to watch politicians flounder as the costs start to rise and voters demand relief.

It was free—and meaningless—for progressive churches to post banners calling themselves “nuclear free zones” during the Reagan era. Their dwindling congregations loved it. It was free, after George Floyd’s murder, to post woke catechism signs on your front lawn, proclaiming “In this house, we believe: Black Lives Matter, women’s rights are human rights, no human is illegal” and so on. Maybe the neighbors gave you high-fives. And for years it has been free for deep-blue cities to proclaim themselves “sanctuaries” for illegal immigrants. That’s changing now that voters want some sanctuary for themselves.

Changes like this happen when voters realize the old virtue signals actually entail serious costs—and that they will have to pay them. That is exactly what’s happening in New York City and Washington D.C. now that Texas governor Greg Abbott is sending those cities a few busloads of illegal immigrants from his state.

These progressive bastions were silent when the Biden administration flew planeloads of illegal immigrants to suburban airports in the middle of the night. TV coverage was prohibited, and the arrivals were secretly dispersed. Abbott’s buses, by contrast, arrive downtown greeted by local TV crews. Now you can hear the politicians screech.

Out of obvious frustration with the current immigration crisis along the U.S./Mexican border Texas Governor Greg Abbott has resorted to sending busloads of illegal aliens caught entering the United States illegally in his state along the Mexican border, to New York City, Washington, DC and other cities far from the southern border to publicize the situation that Texans face because of Biden’s immigration policies.

The back and forth is steeped in political tensions as the Republican governor — running for reelection and considered a potential presidential candidate — tries to show that Democratic mayors are not as sympathetic to the plight of migrants as their party claims to be. Abbott’s critics have said he is using migrants as pawns in a cynical plot that does little to actually solve border problems.

Caught in the middle is President Joe Biden, who Abbott has long blamed for the border situation. Bowser has turned to the administration for help, asking last month for the Department of Defense to deploy the National Guard to her city. CNN reported Friday morning that the Pentagon has denied Bowser’s request.

New York also still wants help from the federal government.

“NYC will continue to welcome asylum seekers w/ open arms, as we have always done, but we still need support from DC,” Levy, the Adams spokesperson, said on Twitter.

Abbott sent a letter Monday to Adams and Bowser inviting them to the border region to “see firsthand the dire situation.” In rebuffing Abbott’s invitation, a spokesperson for Adams said Abbott should focus on helping “asylum seekers in Texas as we have been hard at work doing in New York City.”

As extremist Biden-Harris policies continue to swamp America with illegal aliens, the regime, which has already lavished millions of dollars on a radical George Soros-funded group, may give the so-called social justice outfit another billion taxpayer dollars to prevent illegal aliens from being deported.

The illegals benefiting from this largesse are unaccompanied alien children (UACs) who supposedly have no parents or legal guardians in the U.S. to take care of them.

Many UACs have ties to MS-13 or other gangs, then-chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chuck Grassley, an Iowa Republican, warned in 2017.

“It is well known that MS-13 actively targets and recruits children as young as eight years old,” the lawmaker said. “While their illegal status and Central American heritage are a key factor in MS-13’s targeting, without a doubt the failures of the current system for handling these children are also to blame.”

“With promises of a cultural community and an escape from often harrowing and isolating living conditions at home, MS-13 has become an attractive option for too many minors,” Grassley added.

This taxpayer-underwritten MS-13 import subsidy comes “amid an escalating border crisis that saw more than 239,000 migrant encounters in May alone — a historic high. There were 14,699 encounters of unaccompanied minors in May, an increase from the 12,180 encountered in April and slightly higher than the 14,052 encountered in May 2021,” Fox News reports.

“So far, there have been more than 100,000 unaccompanied minor encounters in fiscal year 2022, which started in October, compared to 147,925 for fiscal year 2021 and 33,239 in fiscal year 2020.”

On direct orders from President Joe Biden, the Department of Homeland Security released 79,652 migrants into the United States last month after they were detained for illegally crossing the southern border. This brings the total number of illegal immigrants caught and released into the U.S. on Biden’s watch to 1,335,959.

That is a population larger than nine states and twice that of the District of Columbia.

At this pace, Biden will catch and release over 3.5 million illegal immigrants into the U.S. in his first term — a population larger than that of Chicago.

The border communities of the Rio Grande Valley have cried out to Biden and Democrats in Congress for help. Not only has Biden refused to listen, but he hasn’t even bothered to visit the border to witness the crisis that his policies have created. He would rather ignore the problem, and he hopes voters do as well.

Unfortunately for Biden, more and more cities are discovering that every community is a border community when immigration laws go unenforced. On Face the Nation this Sunday, District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser complained that too many migrants were being bused from the southern border and filling up homeless shelters in D.C.

The story was a perfect liberal talking point. Just days after Roe v. Wade was overturned, news media breathlessly reported that a 10-year-old rape victim in Ohio was forced to leave the state to seek an abortion.

It was catnip for MSNBC Boomers and liberal white women. The story spread like wildfire; Joe Biden referenced the case in public remarks, asking Americans to “imagine being that little girl.” I myself even overheard one large middle-aged woman loudly yelling about the case while on speakerphone here in rural Hillsdale, Michigan. 

But the actual initial reports about the case were so extreme and so devoid of details that many wondered if it had even happened. U.S. Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost were publicly skeptical. It fit the narrative too perfectly. The activists pumping the case up had plenty of reason to lie. It wasn’t as if journalists were going to start asking any skeptical questions.

As it turns out, the incident did happen, but it isn’t the narrative blockbuster abortion advocates wanted.

A case that was meant to show the evils of America’s white male patriarchy and its burgeoning post-Roe theocratic “Handmaid’s Tale”-style dictatorship ended up being a story about the insanity and brutality of America’s immigration policies. 

The 10-year-old’s rapist wasn’t—as liberals no doubt secretly hoped—a blond-haired, blue eyed, Trump-supporting redneck but a 27-year-old Guatemalan illegal alien by the name of Gerson Fuentes. The girl’s mother is also an immigrant, who by all accounts does not speak English.

It gets worse. When Telemundo interviewed the mother, she defended Fuentes saying that the media had lied about him. When the abortion initially occurred, Fuentes was listed as a minor, in an apparent attempt to prevent prosecution for child rape.

The Biden Administration swaps “cages” for trailers, where migrant detainees starve, suffocate, and expire.

When the swamp’s officials advocate a specific policy, it is wise to remember that the more illogical their statement is, the more political their statement is. Often, the official grasps that his statement on behalf of a desired policy is not supported by the facts; consequently, he attempts to conceal its failings beneath a mask of emotion, not infrequently aided by the media’s connivance. The official’s hope is that listeners’ virtuous feelings—such as altruism, compassion, and righteous indignation—will obscure their ability to comprehend intellectually the argument’s fallacies and the policy’s damage. 

It would be tempting to call the official a liar and, indeed, many are. Still, many truly believe that while their argument is specious, magically, any impact of the desired policy will prove beneficial. Yet, when officials’ illogical, emotional arguments are accepted despite a citizenry’s better judgment, the fallout from those policies are not only impractical and injurious, they can prove lethal—and often for those who had no say in the fallacious argument and the implementation of its policies.

There is no more dire and vivid example of such illogical, political, emotional statements, disingenuous arguments, and their deadly consequences than the Biden Administration’s immigration policy.

As Melanie Arter of CNSNews.com reports, the recent discovery in San Antonio of 53 migrants who died in “what is considered to be the deadliest human smuggling incident in U.S. history” has raised the Biden Administration’s “record” of migrant deaths on its watch to over 700 men, women, and children.
