Will Spiraling Border Crisis Destroy Biden’s Presidency?

https://issuesinsights.com/2021/04/08/will-spiraling-border-crisis-destroy-bidens-presidency/

It’s not three months into a four-year term, but Joe Biden’s presidency is already heading for the rocks. Surging waves of immigrants have overwhelmed the U.S.’ southern border. With public anger growing, Biden now has been forced to tacitly recognize President Donald Trump’s border success.

Just this week, Biden let it be known he’s considering restarting Trump’s border wall construction — just to “fill in” parts of it, his administration says. Right.

In fact, it’s desperation because the Biden-Democrat open border policy has been an epic disaster, one that could result in huge Democratic losses in 2022 and a lame-duck presidency for Biden.

An AP-NORC poll shows 56% of those queried disapprove of Biden’s handling of immigration and 55% disapprove of his border security policies. Significantly, this is a glaring weak spot in Biden’s otherwise solid support from independents, who disapprove of his policies cited above by 62% and 67%, respectively.

Americans have been shocked by images such as this touching video on Wednesday of a lone crying boy left behind by his group to wander the Mexican desert near the border. That’s Biden’s policy in a nutshell.

And, sadly, it’s entirely predictable.

Texas Attorney General Sues Biden Administration For Releasing Criminal Aliens By Jordan Davidson

https://thefederalist.com/2021/04/07/texas-attorney-general-sues-biden-administration-for-releasing-criminal-aliens/

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, joined by the state of Louisiana, sued the Biden administration over the president’s executive orders directing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release convicted criminal illegal aliens into the United States.

In the lawsuit filed in district court, Paxton argues ICE is violating federal law by releasing “dangerous illegal aliens already convicted of felony offenses” into the United States after the Biden administration issued memos making it more difficult for migrants who are not a “national security threat or criminal offender with an aggravated felony conviction” to be issued detainer requests ordering their deportation. This change, the lawsuit states, is the direct result of a “broader shift in federal policy that began on the first day of the Biden Administration and has resulted in a ‘crisis on the border.’”

“President Biden’s outright refusal to enforce the law is exacerbating an unprecedented border crisis. By failing to take custody of criminal aliens and giving no explanation for this reckless policy change, the Biden Administration is demonstrating a blatant disregard for Texans’ and Americans’ safety,” the Republican said in a press release on Tuesday. “Law and order must be immediately upheld and enforced to ensure the safety of our communities. Dangerous and violent illegal aliens must be removed from our communities as required by federal law.”

While the policy before Biden exercised executive power stated that ICE could send the Texas Department of Criminal Justice detainer requests ordering criminal aliens to be deported upon their release, the new directive pushes ICE to cut back on detainer requests and forces the state criminal justice department to “release criminals into the community or continue housing them at the expense of Texas taxpayers.”

Border Patrol agents arrest Yemeni men who were on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List One man was arrested in late January and another was arrested in late March.By Alex Nitzberg

Border Patrol agents have arrested illegal alien Yemeni men present in the U.S. illegally who were on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List.

Authorities apprehended a man on January 29 and records checks showed that the 33-year-old was on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List and on the No-Fly list, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which also reported that agents discovered a cell phone sim card concealed beneath his shoe’s insole.

Similarly, agents on March 30 arrested an individual for illegally entering the country and records checks showed that the 26-year-old man was included on the FBI Terrorism Watch List and the on the No Fly List, according to CBP.

“The No Fly List is a small subset of the U.S. government Terrorist Screening Database (also known as the terrorist watchlist) that contains the identity information of known or suspected terrorists. This database is maintained by the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center,” according to TSA.gov.

Jen Psaki Is Dishonest and Her Boss Has No Plan for Addressing the Border Crisis By Isaac Schorr

https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/jen-psaki-is-dishonest-and-her-boss-is-clueless/

“Worst of all, it makes plain that the president remains clueless as to how to address the crisis he’s created, other than allowing Jen Psaki to embarrass him from a podium.”

Fox News’s Peter Doocy and White House press secretary Jen Psaki sparred over a question from Doocy on border security this afternoon.

Doocy: On immigration, has the White House considered beefing up border security now that there is video of a three-year-old and a five-year-old being thrown over the wall in New Mexico?

Psaki: Beefing up border security-

Doocy: There is video now of a three-year-old and a five-year-old-

Psaki: I’ve seen the video and I think any of us who saw the video were incredibly alarmed by the steps of smugglers, ones that we have been quite familiar with, that we have spoke out about our concerns about. As Secretary Mayorkas said, “the inhumane way smugglers abuse children while profiting off parents’ desperation is criminal and morally reprehensible.” The president certainly agrees with that. These kids were, I believe, rescued by individuals who were working at the border.

Foster Parents Forced to Break Up Family after Non-Profit Takes Home to Accommodate Migrant Children By Zachary Evans

https://www.nationalreview.com/news/non-profit-orders-foster-parents-to-vacate-home-to-accommodate-migrant-children/

A foster family in Washington state was told to vacate their home by the non-profit organization that provided it, in order to make space for housing unaccompanied migrant children.

Friends of Youth, a non-profit that provides services to homeless and foster children, told Edmundo Serena Sanchez and his wife Paual to vacate their home in Renton, Wash., in a story first reported by King 5, a Seattle-area NBC affiliate. In an interview with National Review, Serena Sanchez said the couple was forced to send three of their foster children to other families because they were not able to find a suitable home by the time of their eviction.

A fourth teenager under their care ran away upon learning of the move, and has not returned as of Wednesday.

Edmundo, a driver for Uber and Lyft, and Paual are licensed therapeutic foster parents, who are trained to raise children with serious behavioral problems. They’ve raised more than 20 foster children in the home over the seven years they’ve lived there.Serena Sanchez said that Friends of Youth, which currently serves over 3,000 children in the Seattle area, sent him a notice on January 29 that his foster home contract “will be terminated,” and that the house would be used “to provide a different scope of services in support of unaccompanied youth.”

“Unaccompanied youth” is the federal term for unaccompanied migrant children, and the Biden administration is currently struggling with a major influx of migrant children at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Biden’s Pledge Of Transparency Vanishes Amid Border Crisis

https://issuesinsights.com/2021/03/31/bidens-pledge-of-transparency-vanishes-amid-border-crisis/

Biden believes that the media is a critical piece of our democracy; that transparency is incredibly important.” – Former White House deputy press secretary T.J. Ducklo

Just two months into his presidency, Joe Biden has already decided that transparency isn’t so important after all, at least when it comes to the border crisis, and that keeping people in the dark is good policy.

Of course, Biden still refuses to admit that there even is a crisis at the border. At his press conference last week, he acted as though the flood of unaccompanied children into the U.S. was as routine as flowers in the spring.

“Nothing has changed,” he said. “It happens every single, solitary year: There is a significant increase in the number of people coming to the border in the winter months of January, February, March. That happens every year.”

It’s not true, of course. Last year, the number of illegal crossings dropped in each of the months Biden claims it always spikes. And the total number of unaccompanied children in 2020 plunged to 33,000 from 80,000 the year before. So far this year, the number of unaccompanied children apprehended far exceeds every year under Donald Trump. So, clearly, something has changed.

Even if what Biden said were true, that a massive surge of unaccompanied children happens every year, it means he was caught entirely flat-footed for this supposedly predictable event. In other words, either Biden is lying or he’s incompetent.

Which is why President Transparency has been pretending there is no crisis while denying the press access to the detention facilities that are currently being overrun with children.

When asked at his press conference about this denial of access, Biden said that he’d continue to shut the media out.

“I will commit to transparency,” he said, “soon as I am in a position to be able to implement what we are doing right now.”

The reporter then asked: “Just to be clear: How soon will that be, Mr. President?

Biden: “I don’t know, to be clear.”

Border official: 861 criminal migrants, including 92 sex offenders, apprehended in Rio Grande Valley by Jake Dima,

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/border-patrol-boss-brian-hastings-861-criminal-illegal-immigrants-arrested-sex-offenders-gang-members

A top border official on Saturday said over 800 criminal migrants, including dozens of sex offenders, were apprehended within the Rio Grande Valley in Texas so far in fiscal year 2021.

Brian Hastings, who oversees Border Patrol operations for the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, said his agency, in recent months, has arrested 861 illegal immigrants who were later found to have other criminal offenses, of whom 92 were sex offenders, and 63 had gang ties, he wrote in a tweet. The law enforcement official included a photograph of a Salvadoran man who was taken into custody with a prior conviction for murder. In a subsequent post, Hastings said his agency recently encountered five large groups of illegal immigrants in the Rio Grande Valley, wrangling a total of 539 individuals into custody. Ninety-three of the apprehended individuals were unaccompanied children, and Hastings added that 18,000 solo minors have been apprehended since the beginning of the fiscal year.

Biden’s Border Crisis, Up Close His policies endanger vulnerable migrants by encouraging them to make perilous illegal crossings.Jillian Kay Melchior

Sixty-five adults and 152 children clambered aboard smugglers’ rafts to cross the Rio Grande near Roma, a border town of 10,000. One Honduran woman hobbled on board on crutches. A human trafficker had broken her leg assaulting her in Mexico, but she was determined to get to the U.S., so she paid the $3,500 coyote’s fee and struggled onto the flimsy vessel. The group also included a mother cradling her 6-month-old daughter. It was March 16, a balmy evening. Around 8:45 p.m., hell broke loose.

Border Patrol agents came on the crossing, accompanied by a Texas special-operations group. The smugglers grabbed the dark-haired baby girl and hurled her into the deep water. They capsized the rafts, sending panicked migrants flailing into the dark currents. “They did that to distract law enforcement so it would become a rescue operation,” says Lt. Christopher Olivarez, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

American authorities managed to rescue the baby, and a photo shows a Texas officer cradling the little girl. Her tiny arms stretch toward him, and her striped shirt and yellow polka-dot pants are soaked. The authorities also saved the woman with the broken leg and helped parents and children reach the shore. The Department of Public Safety incident report records no fatalities or serious injuries. But the smugglers escaped.

President Biden has criticized Donald Trump’s immigration strategy as inhumane and vowed to treat migrants compassionately. Yet his policies have created perverse incentives for vulnerable migrants to enter the U.S. in dangerous ways. Those policies enrich the Mexican cartels that extort, kidnap, rape and exploit Central American migrants.

Border Democrat Shares Another Batch of Leaked Photos From Border Patrol Facilities By Jack Phillips

https://www.theepochtimes.com/mkt_morningbrief/border-democrat-shares-anoth

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), whose congressional district lies along the southern border, shared another batch of photos that were sourced from Border Patrol facilities.

Cuellar aired the photos during a CBS News segment on Sunday morning. The photos showed numerous unaccompanied minors being held in overcrowded conditions, sitting on the floor with foil blankets, and more.

“Border Patrol does not want to keep people there longer than 72 hours,” Cuellar told the network. “But there’s two issues, two factors coming into play. One, there are so many—there’s a large number of people coming across every single day, groups of over 100 individuals coming in into the Border Patrol custody, number one. Number two, the flow through, that is through [Health and Human Services], they’re moving and they’re trying to get more shelters open.”

Cuellar said that adult illegal immigrants are “pretty much returned,” adding that 71 percent out of 100,000 people that illegally crossed the border in February were adults.

“Those are being returned, expelled back. Some family units are turned back into Mexico depending on the age of the kids. Thirteen and above are being returned,” he remarked.

However, Cuellar said that some 2,000 people who entered illegally have been released into the United States by federal officials without any notices to appear at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) court date in the future.

Migrant border crisis about to get worse By Monica Showalter

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2021/03/migrant_border_crisis_about_to_get_worse.html

Already Joe Biden has botched it at the border.

After issuing a series of executive orders designed to dismantle President Trump’s border stabilization, tens of thousands of migrants are pouring in, and thousands of kids are in cages. The Bidenites are claiming it’s no crisis, just seasonal movements. The migrants wearing Biden t-shirts know different. The coyotes enticing illegal migration in exchange for millions in smuggling ‘fees’ know different. And the President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador knows different too, stating that Biden is the one who caused the border crisis. Facts are facts, and the interested parties know.

That’s why the Biden administration is trying to muzzle the press, block photos, and keep inconvenient congressional members away. They know, too. They can read the polls.

But incredibly, it’s going to get worse. According to this alarming report from Rick Moran now at PJMedia (Hat tip: Instapundit), more migrants are on their way, and the forecast is for bigger numbers.

According to the administration’s own estimates, the number of unaccompanied minors who are apprehended at the border will rise sharply in April compared to March.

Wall Street Journal:

As of Thursday, the Biden administration reported more than 18,000 immigrant children in its custody, with roughly 12,500 of them in government child shelters. About another 5,500 are being held in temporary Border Patrol holding facilities waiting to be transferred to shelters.

A senior Border Patrol official told reporters Friday morning that the number of children has continued to rise in recent days and that children were routinely being held in the agency’s stations and tent facilities for an average of about 90 hours but that some had been there for as long as 100 hours. The longest they are allowed to stay by law is 72 hours. The official said children were staying in Border Patrol facilities longer than allowed because the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement doesn’t have enough space to house them all
