PETER BROOKES: IS THE CLIMATE THE BIGGEST THREAT???

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/detail/is-the-climate-the-biggest-threat?f=puball

The commander of American forces in the Pacific, Admiral Samuel Locklear, told a Boston Globe reporter last week that the most serious long-term security threat to the Asia-Pacific region is climate change.

Locklear said in the interview that instability stemming from a warming planet “is probably the most likely thing that is going to happen . . . that will cripple the security environment, probably more likely than the other scenarios we all often talk about.”

Apparently having faced some raised eyebrows in previous conversations on the matter, the admiral admitted that “People are surprised sometimes” to hear him say climate change is the biggest threat to peace in the Pacific.

He’s right on this account: Many would be surprised-or even shocked-to hear our senior warfighter in the Pacific say that.

It’s likely that his listeners would expect him to talk about nuclear North Korea or China’s military build-up, cyber or space warfare or even the ongoing sovereignty disputes in the East and South China Seas, which involves some of our allies and friends.

In fairness to the admiral, there are a lot of possible reasons for his views. First, Locklear could be convinced of what he says or was being cautious with his words so as to not exacerbate existing tensions with the likes of North Korea, whose rhetoric of late has been anything but friendly.

MARK SILVERBERG: THE CASE FOR COMMUTATION OF POLLARD’S SENTENCE ****SEE NOTE PLEASE

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/detail/jonathan-pollard-the-case-for-commutation-of-sentence THIS ONE ON POLLARD IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT….RSK During the course of President Obama’s recent interview with Israel’s Channel 2 on March 21st, in response to whether he would consider commuting the life sentence of former civilian American naval intelligence analyst and convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard, he remarked: “As president, my first obligation is […]

John Brennan’s Spooky Swearing-In By Ken Blackwell and Bob Morrison

http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/03/john_brennans_spooky_swearing-in.html President Obama’s choice to be Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) was approved by the Senate on a vote of 63-34, with thirteen Republicans voting to confirm him. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) created quite a stir with his 13-hour filibuster against the Brennan nomination. Not until he received written assurances from Attorney General Eric Holder […]

EILEEN TOPLANSKY: ICH BIN EIN ISRAELI

http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/03/ich_bin_ein_israeli.html

I have no illusions about Obama, master of manipulation and deceit. His latest affront to Israelis and Americans when he stood under Yasser Arafat’s picture while mouthing pious words about peace should surprise no one.

It behooves every freedom-loving individual to remember the legacy of master terrorist Yasser Arafat. Mentored under his uncle the Grand Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini, Yasser Arafat wreaked global terror. Husseini openly supported Hitler and was known as the “Arab Fuhrer.” He used his “program on Radio Berlin to exhort the Arabs in the Middle East to murder the Jews in a holy war that pleased Allah.” A famous meeting with Hitler and Husseini resulted in the latter traveling to Bosnia, where he recruited Bosnian Muslims for the SS. Even though the Muslims clearly did not fit the Aryan profile, their desire to exterminate Jews in the Final Solution melded the groups together. In return, Husseini demanded that after Hitler won the war, all the Jews in Palestine be murdered. At the site Tell Children the Truth, the unvarnished evidence of Husseini’s and Arafat’s perfidy is further explained.

Continuing in this murderous vein, Yasser Arafat is responsible for the most heinous of deeds. At the site for the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA), Arafat’s “Timeline of Terror” is laid out. Furthermore, “groups under Arafat’s direct or indirect command – including Fatah, Black September, Tanzim and Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade – were responsible for hundreds of bombings, hijackings, assassinations and other attacks, including the 1972 murder of 11 of Israel’s Olympic athletes in Munich, the 1973 murder of the American ambassador to Sudan, Cleo Noel, and the 1985 hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruiseship (resulting in the murder of wheelchair-bound Leon Klinghoffer).”

Scottish Government Funds Pro-Terror Group by Samuel Westrop

http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/3632/scottish-government-funds-pro-terror-group Although the Scottish government may be convinced it is engaging with the Muslim community, in truth it is funding Islamist groups with extremist agendas and ties to terrorism. The Daily Express revealed last week that Islamic Relief Worldwide, a British charity accused of links to terrorism, was presented with £398,000 of the taxpayers’ money […]

DANIEL GREENFIELD: NATIONALISM AND INTERNATIONALISM

http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/ Iraq and immigration have one thing in common. Both are founded on the assumption that national political philosophies can be universally applied to any population with the same results. The same leftists and radical libertarians who mocked the idea that Iraqis could be successfully transformed through democracy insist millions of illegal aliens from countries […]

BRET STEPHENS: POSTSCRIPT ON POLLARD…SEE NOTE PLEASE

I AGREE WITH BRET STEPHENS, AS I HAVE STATED BEFORE…..THE LENGTH AND SEVERITY OF POLLARD’S INCARCERATION DESERVES SCRUTINY AND OPPOSITION….BUT, HE IS NO HERO AND TO NAME ANYTHING IN ISRAEL FOR HIM IS INSULTING AND OUTRAGEOUS…AND TO LINK ANY MORE APPEASEMENT FROM ISRAEL TO HIS RELEASE IS PERVERSE….RSK

A spy who betrayed his country and his people is nobody’s hero.

What is the essence of a diseased politics? When the fringe captures and brands the center, rather than the other way around.

You can think of any number of examples of the phenomenon, from the disarmament obsessives (including the young Barack Obama) who made the Democratic Party unfit to hold the presidency throughout the second half of the Cold War, to the anti-immigration obsessives who are doing likewise to the Republican Party today.

What’s true about American politics writ large goes also for any number of political causes writ small. I was reminded of this on Monday when I was abruptly disinvited from delivering a keynote to a charitable pro-Israel organization for the sin of opposing, in my last column, the release of convicted spy Jonathan Pollard.

And that was just the icing on the blizzard of opprobrium—”scurrilous,” “unbelievable,” “arrogant and callous,” “it is anti-Semitic not to free him,” and so on—that piled into my inbox from people whose most fervent political identity is their support for Israel. One writer named Giulio Meotti went so far as to accuse me of committing not one, but two, “blood libels” against Pollard. I last heard from Mr. Meotti a few months ago when he apologized for plagiarizing from an old column of mine. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Two points need making here.
