“But the big trap of multiculturalism is simply this: If all cultures are equal, why defend your own? The culture that replaces it will be just as good, won’t it?”

Back in the day, when I was a newspaper columnist in Denver, representatives of the local chapter of the Anti-Defamation League paid a visit. Over coffee, they told the opinion editor and me that they had a program, “A World of Difference,” that “celebrates America’s diversity.” They asked for our editorial support. The editor and I had the same reaction: Would it not be better to celebrate all the things we have in common, all the things that unite Americans of whatever ethnic or religious backgrounds? Our friends left the meeting mightily miffed.

At the time, I viewed such initiatives (the ADL was hardly alone) as well-intentioned if somewhat ham-handed efforts to combat prejudice. I later realized this was part of a larger campaign to promote multiculturalism, which seemed like a fairly harmless attempt to encourage appreciation of varying styles of art, dress, and cuisine by pretending that all have equal merit. (But is there anyone who seriously believes that German cuisine is on a par with Chinese, French, or Indian?) Only years later did I come to realize: Multiculturalism is an ideology with far-reaching — and damaging — consequences.

This was forcefully driven home to me by a book probably not featured at your local book store: Delectable Lie: A Liberal Repudiation of Multiculturalism, by Salim Mansur, a professor of political science at the University of Ontario. Mansur recounts that back in the 1970s, Canada became the first Western nation to embrace multiculturalism on an official level, “sponsored by the state, supported by taxpayers, and monitored and enforced by thought-police (human rights commissions).” He makes a compelling case that adoption of this ideology has damaged Canada, and not only Canada: Multiculturalism, he writes, has been “destructive of the West’s liberal democratic heritage, tradition, and values based on individual rights and freedoms.”

NORMAN SIMMS: BACK TO THE THREE RING CIRCUS

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/detail/back-to-the-three-ring-circus?f=puball

It had to happen, didn’t it? In fact, it was mooted within a week after Mohammed Merah was shot in Toulouse following his carnival of blood-the shooting, first, of two French soldiers, and then the murder of children and a teacher at a Jewish school. The young murderer went out in a blaze of glory, having set up the situation by holing himself up in his apartment, toying with the police for hours, waiting for there to be sufficient media coverage-and then leaping out the window where he expected to be shot by one or more marksmen on the scene. And now, his father wants to sue the French state for unlawful killing of his son. This is more than self-serving hypocrisy.

In the weeks after the Toulouse spectacle, the media were diverted to the first of the French elections, the vote for a new president, so that attention turned from law-and-order and anti-terrorism back to the economy and especially the downgrading of France’s credit rating.

This week round one of the voting for the National Assembly has been taking place, to be followed by round two when candidates with more than 12.5% of the votes and less than 50% will battle it out. The French public must be in a state of exhaustion as the percentage of registered electors who actually turned out has dipped to an almost all time low. Such electoral fatigue has not stopped the anti-Semites from doing their thing, however. The more spectacular attacks make it to the international news, the rest stay hidden in the local press of this or that town.

ANOTHER STELLAR DEMOCRAT CANDIDATE FOR THE U.S. SENATE

http://www.newschannel5.com/story/18826157/candidate-for-us-senate-faces-sex-charge?clienttype=printable
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate is charged with solicitation of a minor and his case has been bound over to a grand jury.
Authorities said the alleged incident occurred in May 2011, when a 7-year-old girl riding her bike in front of the Johnson City apartment of Thomas K. Owens was invited inside.
The 36-year-old then allegedly hugged the girl, unzipped his pants, and asked her to perform a sex act. The girl ran home and told her mother, who notified police.
Owens told investigators the girl had been in his apartment. As for the allegation, he stated: “I have a problem with that,” but did not elaborate.
Owens’ attorney told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he had just gotten the case was still reviewing it. The case went to the grand jury last month.

JAN MEL POLLER: ON OBAMA, JEWS AND ISRAEL

The article Warshal: President Obama and the defense of Israel brings to focus the question of how Jews can have opposing views of President Obama’s support for Israel. Is he pro-Israel or anti-Israel? But the question is not just a Jewish question. Is President Obama pro or anti-Christian? Is he pro-freedom or pro-Muslim Brotherhood? Is he for Iran getting nukes or not getting nukes? Why do these questions even exist? How can he appear to be opposite things to different people with the same interests? Here is a quote from Rep. Gary Ackerman of (D) New York:

“Enough is enough. The president is far from perfect and criticizing him is legitimate. But the lies and smears and spit-flecked hostility that have emerged in some parts of our community’s debate are a disgrace to a people that regularly asks in prayer for divine assistance to ‘guard my tongue from evil speech and my lips from speaking lies.'”

Poller responds:

Rabbi Warshal talks about lashon hara (evil tongue). He does not address another Yom Kippur lesson: Sins of Omission and Sins of Commission. This applies to all of us including the Rabbi and President Obama.

This begins to explain why my immediate family thinks Obama is anti-Israel while my still-liberal relatives think he is pro-Israel. (Liberal and Conservative are really inadequate and incorrect terms but convey an accepted message.)

It starts with Obama himself: Mr. Obama is an introspective candidate, and perhaps the best analyst of his own political style. “I serve as a blank screen,” he wrote in “The Audacity of Hope,” “on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views.”

We project our views onto President Obama and believe he thinks as we do. We omit the things he does that are contrary to our ideology.

Indicators of President Obama’s ideology are his friends. Here, again, we have contradictions. He numbers amongst his friends Jews like David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel. But far more numerous are his anti-Israel and/or anti-Semitic friends:

ANNE BAYEFSKY: THE UN’S TWISTED HUMAN RIGHTS AGENDA

http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/06/20/anne-bayefsky-the-uns-twisted-human-rights-agenda/

http://www.eyeontheun.org/

The UN’s top human rights body, the UN Human Rights Council, opened its current session in Geneva this week with some Canada-bashing. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, ran down a list of human rights issues around the world that in her view were particularly pressing: Syria for crimes against humanity, a military coup in Mali, torture and summary executions in Eritrea, political prison camps and public executions in North Korea – and human rights in Quebec.

The only human rights issue Pillay described as “alarming” were “moves to restrict freedom of assembly,” and the only alarming instance she could summon up were restrictions in Quebec. The only issue about which she said she was “disappointed” was the law in Quebec. And the only specific concern she had with the violation of “freedom of association” anywhere the world over was in Quebec.

What’s behind her preposterous move?
