Taliban Secures World’s Largest Lithium Deposits After US Withdrawal From Afghanistan Tyler Durden’s

https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/biden-withdraw-allows-taliban-secure-worlds-largest-lithium-deposits

It’s been more than a decade since we penned “The US “Discovers” Nearly $1 Trillion In Mineral Deposits In Afghanistan” in which we highlighted the colossal untapped mineral deposits that reside in Afghanistan.

President Joe Biden’s decision to rapidly and completely withdraw from Afghanistan makes even less strategic sense if readers go back to our 2010 post where we quoted “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man: Part 2, the 21st Century paradigm”? Which said,

“Yet the American officials also recognize that the mineral discoveries will almost certainly have a double-edged impact. Instead of bringing peace, the newfound mineral wealth could lead the Taliban to battle even more fiercely to regain control of the country.”

We continued:

“Which is why it will be best to have the US military not only stay in Afghanistan indefinitely but to get a million man reinforcement surge.”

Readers have known for a while Afghanistan was never about the opium trade or the war on terror but rather the massive deposit of minerals essential for renewable energies.

So in the Economic Hit Man context, why would the Biden administration suddenly pull out of Afghanistan after 20 years if the play all along was about securing rare earth metals?

We don’t want to speculate the Biden administration’s intentions, nor do we have any idea. Still, one thing is sure is that the Taliban now control the world’s largest lithium deposits is becoming friendly with China.

Conservative media outlet Free West Media says new relations between the Taliban and China could increase its global dominance in green energies, such as the lithium-ion battery supply chain market.

Unbeknownst to many, the blog points China and Afghanistan share a 130-mile stretch border. For more on this, here’s Free West Media’s latest piece titled “Taliban now control one of the world’s largest lithium deposits.”

A Bloomberg New Energy Finance Limited report in 2020 highlighted China’s global dominance in the lithium-ion battery supply chain market, due to its grip on raw material mining and refining. In 2019, the US imported 80 percent of its rare earth minerals from China, while the EU states imported 98 percent of these materials from China.

China incidentally also shares a small border with Afghanistan called the Wakhan Corridor – 210km long. While the length of the border may appear insignificant, its location is crucial.

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON – – BIDEN’S BROWN THUMB

https://www.tothepointnews.com/register/?wlfrom=%2F2021%2F08%2Fbidens-brown-thumb%2F

To say of someone they “have a green thumb” is to note everything in their garden grows and blossoms.  Joe Biden’s thumb is not green – it is brown.  Everything he has touched since entering office has turned to feces.

None of his blame-gaming, none of his distortions, none of his fantasies and unreality can mask that truth.

THE AFGHAN CATASTROPHE

Seven months ago, Afghanistan was relatively quiet—with about 10,000 vestigial NATO troops, including 2,500 Americans, anchored by the Bagram Airfield. They were able to provide air superiority for the coalition and Afghan national army.

With air power, NATO forces, if and when they so wished, could have very slowly and gradually withdrawn all its remnant troops—but only after a prior departure of all American and European civilians, coalition contractors, and allied Afghans.

The transient calm abruptly imploded as soon as Joe Biden recklessly yanked all U.S. troops out in a matter of days. Many left in the dead of night, leaving no one to protect contractors, dependents, diplomats, and Afghan allies. In Biden’s world, civilians protect the last Western enclave while soldiers flee.

Three weeks ago, Joe Biden and a woke politicized Pentagon were assuring us that Afghanistan was “stable.” Now the country is reverting to its accustomed premodern, theocratic, and medieval chaos. It will likely soon reopen as the world’s pre-9/11-style terrorist haven—an arms mart of over $50 billion in abandoned U.S. military equipment.

Thanks to the president of the United States, terrorists and nation-state enemies can now shop for arms and train there without hindrance.

The “NATO coalition-builder” Biden also dry-gulched his European allies, whose soldiers outnumbered our own. The humanitarian “good ole Joe from Scranton” deprecated the thousands of Afghan military dead who had helped the Americans.

The families of the American fallen and wounded of two decades were all but told by Biden that the catastrophe in Kabul was inevitable—no other way out but chaos and dishonor. Why did he not tell us that earlier, when he was vice president, so many dead and wounded ago?

SAS in dramatic desert raid to save troops from Taliban

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9917109/SAS-dramatic-desert-raid-save-troops-Taliban.html

How elite SAS troops launched dramatic operation to save 20 comrades trapped by advancing Taliban hordes as Kandahar fell – landing a Hercules plane on the desert floor in pitch darkness in ‘textbook’ raid
Around 20 SAS men who were surrounded by Taliban have been rescued from the Afghan desert by comrades
The group who were in Kandahar province sent an SOS to commanders as the area fell to Taliban control
Military commanders hatched a daring plan to extricate the stranded troops by landing a plane in the desert
Sources describe the astonishing raid – which utilised a makeshift airstrip in pitch darkness – as ‘textbook’

A team of Special Air Service soldiers who were surrounded by Taliban hordes in Kandahar have been rescued in a dramatic desert operation.

Around 20 elite SAS troops were left stranded in the province hundreds of miles from friendly forces when the militants took over.

As enemy fighters closed in they sent an SOS request to Special Forces bosses back in Britain calling for immediate extraction.

But they could not use Kandahar airfield – once home to 26,000 international troops at the height of the military campaign – because it had already been overrun by Taliban. So the SAS soldiers fought their way to a secret desert location where they went into hiding. The coordinates of the location were then relayed back to Special Forces headquarters in a series of coded messages.

Is Joe Biden OK? Amber Athey

https://spectatorworld.com/topic/joe-biden-ok-retired-afghanistan-taliban-schedule/

Just before the Christmas holiday in 2018, then-President Donald Trump canceled his planned vacation to his Mar-a-Lago resort, citing the partial government shutdown: ‘I will not be going to Florida because of the Shutdown — Staying in the White House! #MAGA.’  The administration determined it would be poor optics for the president to spend 16 days in sunny Florida during a major political standoff.

President Joe Biden has refused to take the same approach, even as his poorly planned withdrawal of troops in Afghanistan led to the Taliban’s rapid ascent to power and the stranding of thousands of American citizens in Kabul. As I wrote previously, we did not see the President for nearly three days as the Taliban seized the capital city. He split his time between his home in Delaware and Camp David during a pre-planned August vacation. The administration finally trotted Biden out for a 10-minute speech defending the withdrawal on Monday, after which he took no questions and quickly returned to Camp David. Since then, the President’s appearances have been few and far between.

After four years of one of the most accessible presidencies in modern history — daily tweets, near-daily press scrums, constant television and radio interviews and the like — Biden’s constant disappearances seem unusual enough. Add in the fact that we are in the midst of an international crisis, and it’s hard not to wonder if something is wrong.

Biden can’t — and won’t — escape blame for Afghanistan fiasco Victor Davis Hanson (August 9, 2021)

https://www.jewishworldreview.com/0821/hanson081921.php

The American-nurtured Afghan military of the last 20 years that had suffered thousands of prior casualties evaporated in a few hours in the encirclement of Kabul.

Enlistees apparently calculated that their own meager chances with the premodern Taliban were still better than fighting as a dependency of the postmodern United States — despite its powerful diversity training programs.

Forces more powerful than the Taliban, in places far more strategic, will now leverage an ideologically driven but predictably incompetent administration, a woke Pentagon and politically weaponized intelligence communities.

Why not, when President Joe Biden trashes both American frackers and the Saudis — only to beg the Kingdom to rush to export more of its hated oil before the U.S. midterms?

Why not, when Biden asks Russia’s Vladimir Putin to request that Russian-related hackers be a little less rowdy in their selection of U.S. targets?

And why not, when our own military jousts with the windmills of “white supremacy” as Afghans fall from U.S. military jets in fatal desperation to reach such a supposedly racist nation?

Biden keeps repeating that he was bound by former President Donald Trump’s planned withdrawal.

Really?

A mercurial Trump repeatedly demonstrated that he was willing to use air power to protect U.S. personnel and to bomb an Islamic would-be caliphate. The Taliban knew that and so struck when Trump was gone.

Biden claims he was bound by Trump’s decision to withdraw and thus cannot be blamed for his reckless operation of a predetermined departure. But all Biden has done since entering office is destroy Trump pacts, overturning past agreements on energy leases, protocols with Latin America and Mexico on border security, and pipeline contracts.

No sooner did Biden claim he was straitjacketed by Trump than he reversed course to defend not just his own withdrawal but the disastrous manner of it. Biden claims that he has no free will while insisting he would have done nothing differently if he did.

In a sane world, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the secretary of defense would resign. We have heard for too long their careerists boast about assigning climate change as their chief challenge. For too long they have virtue-signaled their critical race theory credentials to Congress. For too long they have bragged about rooting out alleged white supremacists from their ranks. For too long they have sparred with journalists while fighting Twitter wars and issuing cartoonish commercials attesting to their woke credentials.

How Obama And Biden Broke History’s Greatest Military

https://www.conservativehq.org/post/how-obama-and-biden-broke-history-s-greatest-military

In January of 2009 as Barack Obama and Joe Biden took the oath of office the United States stood at the peak of military power – our country proudly maintained the most lethal, most experienced, best educated, most technologically advanced and most expensive military establishment in history.

How then did we go from that proud moment to being defeated by an irregular force using mostly World War II and Cold War era weapons in a country where we had spent trillions of dollars and more than 2,300 lives and won battle after battle?

The answer to that seemingly complex question may be found in a slim volume Catastrophic Failure: Blindfolding America in the Face of Jihad by our friend Steve Coughlin.

Coughlin, who is now retired from the Army, had a distinguished career as an attorney, decorated intelligence officer and noted specialist on Islamic law, ideology and associated issues as they relate to terrorism and subversion. In September 2001, right after 9/11, he was mobilized from his private sector career and assigned to the Directorate for Intelligence, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Targeting (JCS-J2T). Over time, his responsibilities evolved into intelligence support to information operations and strategic communications from a targeting perspective.

In 2007, Coughlin was awarded a Master of Science of Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College / Defense Intelligence Agency on the threat analysis aspects of Islamic law and related doctrines. As a Major in the United States Army (res.), Coughlin was later assigned to USCENTCOM where he served in both an intelligence and strategic communications / information operations role.

From 9/11, to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, to the “Arab Spring,” and the rise of the Islamic State Catastrophic Failure: Blindfolding America in the Face of Jihad explains how we got where we are in the war Islam has declared on the West and how we were destined to fail due to the decisions made by Obama and Biden.

What Coughlin discovered once he entered the Intelligence Directorate was that in the Pentagon there was a preference for political correctness over accuracy and for models that were generated not by what the enemy said he was, but for what academics and “cultural advisors” said the enemy needed to be based on contrived social science theories.

And then the 2008 election brought Barack Obama and Joe Biden to the White House, and put ideologues associated with them in charge of the Pentagon, CIA and State Department.

Joe Biden’s short walk in the Hindu Kush Roger Kimball

https://spectatorworld.com/topic/jbiden-short-walk-hindu-kush-afghanistan/

“There is no light in the bazaar. The Americans brought the light when they came to build the great dam . . . but when they left the took the machine with them and now there is no more light.”—Eric Newby, A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush

There really isn’t much that is amusing about Afghanistan. There never has been. But Eric Newby wrote a most amusing book about his trek through the Hindu Kush in the late 1950s.  These days, when the Americans decamp from Afghanistan they leave behind tons – literally tons – of lights, not to mention munitions of various sizes and lethality, roads, buildings, communication devices of all sorts – you name it. A few days ago, we were told that the Afghan government might fall within 90 days to the newly resurgent Taliban. Over the weekend, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby assured the world that “Kabul does not face an imminent threat from the Taliban.” Whew. That gave the team at our Kabul embassy time to shred or other render inoperative all the sensitive information they were sitting on – that stash of Pride flags, for example, which the new masters will not have much use for, unless it is to drape over the shoulders of the gays they execute by pushing them off roofs.

Well, it turns out the embassy workers did not have quite enough time. If we still used ink, the bit used to record Kirby’s words would not have been dry before his words were replaced by headlines that Kabul had fallen to the Taliban, who now occupied the presidential palace, the president himself having fled the country, and that the country as whole was in a state of crisis.

President Biden – or, as I like to denominate him these days, due to the deference shown him by all those eager-beaver members of the press, President Ice Cream – was hors de combat when this important news came over what counts as the wire these days. He had left the White House for Camp David. Monday, I think, is when Ben and Jerry’s makes its deliveries, and all we could glean was that he would be addressing the nation “in a few days.”

The outcry over that bit of impertinence was loud, sustained, and widespread, even among the housebroken poodles of the Fourth Estate. So just a few hours before I sat down to write this, the President of the United States shuffled before the cameras, blinked, and told us two things. One, he felt really badly about what just happened. Really, his heart goes out to the thousands Afghans who are about to be raped, mutilated, or slaughtered. Two, it was all Donald Trump’s fault. Really. “I inherited a deal that president Trump negotiated with the Taliban.” I’m the president and the “buck stops with me,” but still, it’s all Donald Trump’s fault.

Quick question: does anybody, anybody believe that if Donald Trump were still president Afghanistan would have been consumed in this humiliating maelstrom?

Our Military Is A Woke Joke Kurt Schlichter

https://townhall.com/columnists/kurtschlichter/2021/08/16/our-military-is-a-woke-joke-n2594151

Ignore those pictures of the Afghan army that our military senior leader geniuses spent 20 years and zillions of dollars on disintegrating in the face of a pack of glorified mountain banditos from the Seventh Century – the real story is that, finally, America’s fighting men and women are fully aware of the urgency of accepting and validating the trans experience. And it’s even better if said trans people are BIPOC. Plus differently abled.

Our broke, woke armed forces would be a hysterically funny punchline if the joke wasn’t, “The greatest military in human history walks into a bar, puts down trillions of dollars and buckets of American blood, and asks the bartender, ‘So, what would it look like if all the generals and admirals sucked-up to the garbage establishment that has totally failed the people of the USA?’”

Yes, it is a joke, a sick one. Fire all the generals. Invite a few back, maybe a dozen. Clean out the Pentagon. Can all the “Diversity Consultants,” “Equal Opportunity Officers,” “Climate Change Mitigation Specialists,” and every other strap-hanging oxygen thief who doesn’t contribute to the only thing the military should be focusing on right now – putting Chi Coms in graves.

Yeah, there’s been a strategic failure of epic proportions by our civilian establishment. We need to fix that at the ballot box by tossing out every Democrat and every Liz Cheney-esque combat tourist who delights in sending our young people overseas to get ground up in idiotic wars designed to enrich their cronies. Hardest hit at the end of Afghanistan: Haliburton, Raytheon, KBR, and a hundred other contractors you never heard of. Oh, and the Afghan people, but they never really figured into this calculus except in the abstract idea that we were going to convert a nation of savages into Lil’ Vermonters living the Norman Rockwell dream of community democracy.

Twenty years of failure. Twenty years. How far and fast we fell. I was there thirty years ago, in VII Corps main, contributing my car washing skills, when the greatest military force in human history annihilated a country’s entire army in 100 hours and barely broke a sweat doing it. Amazingly, we did it without giving a single thought to our alleged privilege – to the extent cracking over reeking half-barrels in wooden outhouses in the middle of the desert constituted privilege.

Look at us now. Look at the generals, in their stupid throwback uniforms from the Forties that are supposed to make the gender studies seminar we call the US Army think it’s the same force that broke Hitler. It’s not. A serious organization does not alternate its designation of America’s most serious threat between the weather, “racism,” and other Americans who dissent from the generals’ bosses’ political priorities.

Biden Photo at Camp David Raises Red Flags as Questions Swirl About President’s Whereabouts by Kyle Becker

https://beckernews.com/33-biden-photo-at-camp-david-raises-red-flags-as-questions-swirl-about-presidents-whereabouts-40867/

As Afghanistan crumbled on Sunday, the American people had one question on their minds: ‘Where is the president?’ Joe Biden had taken off on vacation days ago to his Camp David “retreat” (as CNN called it) and was nowhere to be found.

Kabul fell and the presidential palace was overrun. Afghanis were executed in the streets. Interpreters sought desperately to flee from Kabul International Airport. The Taliban declared the two-decades-long war “over.”

But the word came on Sunday afternoon that Biden would not be giving an address to the American people. A single photo was tweeted from the White House account with a picture of Biden being “briefed.”

“This morning, the President and Vice President met with their national security team and senior officials to hear updates on the draw down of our civilian personnel in Afghanistan, evacuations of SIV applicants and other Afghan allies, and the ongoing security situation in Kabul,” the account said.

One of the first things people noticed was the utter lack of Operational Security: It showed on the television that there were camera feeds from both the CIA and Doha Station.

“Heck of a job, White House communications shop. I figure you would want to crop out the teleconference screens labeled ‘CIA’ and ‘Doha Station’,” NRO’s Jim Geraghty tweeted. “You panicking amateur idiots.”

The image also looked somewhat similar to other recent photos of Biden at Camp David.

This is a White House photo of President Biden speaking with Vice President Kamala Harris and members of his national security team from Camp David in Maryland, on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021.

Then it gets odd. The new White House photo issued on Sunday shows the clocks with twenty-six minutes advanced. It is depicted as being from Sunday morning at 11:29 EST. Joe Biden is in a different outfit.

There is an issue with the clocks showing London and Moscow are three hours apart. Those two cities are two hours apart, so either the photo is wrong or the clocks at Camp David are wrong.

It should be noted that while Tehran is shown as a half-hour difference from Moscow, it is actually an hour and a half difference. For whatever reason, that’s also wrong.

The time difference raised some major questions. One of the first to notice it was Scuba Mike on Twitter.

“The current time difference is 2 hours so this picture could not have been taken today,” Scuba Mike weighed in. “The whole TV is fake and this was not today.” (It should be noted that this claim has not been confirmed.)

Fauci, the political scientist, rolls on down the road By Jon Rappoport

https://canadafreepress.com/article/fauci-the-political-scientist-rolls-on-down-the-road

‘Fauci works on his narrative-script every day. He makes changes. He tells new lies. He tap-dances around contradictions. He keeps polishing his image as the The Scientist.’

For the past year, I’ve been documenting Fauci’s serial lies and self-contradictions. Cherry-picking is also one of his skills.

On 8/8, he appeared on Meet the Press with the remarkably clueless Chuck Todd. Fauci warned of a COVID super-spreader event: the annual Sturgis, South Dakota, biker rally.

Fauci: “I’m very concerned we’re going to see another [COVID] surge related to that rally.”

So let’s follow Dr. Death’s logic and mention other super-spreader

“To me it’s understandable that people want to do the kind of things they want to do. They want their freedom to do that, but there comes a time when you’re dealing with the public health crisis that could involve you, your family and everyone else…”

So let’s follow Dr. Death’s logic and mention other super-spreader events he neglected to highlight because he’s a political scientist (which is no scientist at all), and he always remembers who his masters are.

ONE: The immigration crisis at the Southern border. Huge numbers of untested and unvaccinated immigrants are coming across into the US from all over the world, and they’re then transported to many different spots around the country. Perfect for transmitting a virus.

TWO: The George Floyd protests and riots in more than a hundred US cities. No masks, no distancing. Sensational super-spreaders.

THREE: Sanctuary cities, which pack in and protect untested, unvaccinated, unmasked immigrants. Terrific places for the virus and its spread.

FOUR: The recent Obama birthday bash, herding together several hundred unmasked and non-distancing celebs.

FIVE: The Lollapalooza concert held in Grant Park in Chicago.
