Was it all that long ago that the nation was told that Brett M. Kavanaugh was unacceptable for the United States Supreme Court based on a perjurer’s allegations? The allegations against him were horrible lies and defamations, but the Democrats pulled out their Robert Bork/Clarence Thomas character-assassination playbook anyway. One liar spoke in a fry about how she had to put a second front door into her million-dollar house in her exclusive neighborhood because of Kavanaugh-related phobias. Then we found out the extra door was installed to bypass zoning restrictions. She said she no longer could fly, so could not attend a Washington, D.C. hearing. Only we soon after discovered that she flew the world. She could not remember a thing about what she claimed had happened to her — not where, not the date, not how she got home. Others whom she named would not verify her story. Then came the next liar and the next. It was not long before Michael Avenatti showed up at the circus with his clown.

Yet we were told by Democrat Morality Police that the assault and rape claims of a woman — any woman —always must be believed. There is no “He Said/She Said.” Rather, there is only “He Raped/She Survived.” Suddenly, the term “Survivor” that had been arrogated by CBS for a contestant program — but that had been reserved hitherto primarily for Jews, Roma (“Gypsies”), and homosexuals who had made it out alive from Dachau, Buchenwald, Treblinka, Bergen-Belsen, Ravensbrück, Majdanek, Auschwitz, and the others — now applied to any woman who ever had made a claim against any man. It did not matter how dubious her past, how preposterous her narrative, her record of false claims, or the obviousness of her lie.

In time, however, that New Left Morality soon was exposed as baloney when a professional Black woman academic accused a Black Lieutenant Governor of having raped her.

So, now the Democrats are choosing between a pair of doddering crustaceans. The Crusty Commie Curmudgeon and the Crusty Comedy Relief both did well enough Tuesday to keep going. Big Chief Warren, whose actual people call corn “corn” and not “maize,” may still go on because she’s an insufferable monster whose transcendent yearning to nag us into schoolmarm’d submission knows no bounds, plus because the establishment wants her in the race siphoning Chablis socialist votes away from her Marx brother.

 But the Hapless Halfling dropped out, a half-billion bucks lighter, and he’s not just returning to his burrow. He’ll want to remain a Dem player – he’ll keep spending like an NFL superstar in the Champagne Room at the Peppermint Pasty gentleman’s club after getting his signing bonus paid in singles, and the Lil’ Loser hopes to make it rain until he drowns Donald Trump in a sea of greenbacks.     But the battle is really for the shriveled heart of the Democrat Party, and no one better represents the yin and the yang of that dying collection of power-hungry elitists and grasping greedos than the doddering socialist Sanders and that Biden guy who should by all rights be chasing that damn know-it-all squirrel around the park.

Tuesday’s primaries have, for all intents and purposes, transformed the battle for the Democratic presidential nomination into a slugfest between the establishment-backed Joe Biden and the insurgent populist Bernie Sanders. With the help of the party bosses — or superdelegates, as they have been euphemistically rebranded — Biden will almost certainly prevail. This will, however, be a Pyrrhic victory for the former vice president. It will not merely alienate millions of Sanders’ supporters, many of whom will be so disillusioned by a repeat of the Democratic National Committee’s 2016 skulduggery that they will sit at home next November. It will also render Biden’s intellectual infirmities and history of influence-peddling impossible to conceal.

Before delving into the details of Biden’s fatal weaknesses, however, it’s important to dispose of recent polls showing President Trump losing a hypothetical matchup with the erstwhile vice president. These surveys are no more reliable than the tsunami of 2016 polls that showed Hillary Clinton trouncing Trump without breaking a sweat. To gauge the credibility of their current counterparts, it will be useful to pull up this poll from ABC showing Clinton with a 12-point lead just two weeks before the election, or the NBC survey that showed her ahead of Trump by 10 points, or this one from Monmouth that showed a 12-point Clinton lead. Polls showing Biden beating Trump in 2020 are meaningless.

I’m glad Joe Biden won the South Carolina primary so decisively. Judging by the vacant but enthusiastic smile on his face at his victory celebration, I suspect he believes he just won the presidency.

I hope no one will disabuse him of that fantasy.

He should now gracefully retire to private life and entertain himself with memories of his glory days and his incredibly—I use the word advisedly—long list of accomplishments.

Poor Biden. His victory in South Carolina won’t, as some pundits are claiming, “resuscitate” or “breathe life” into the ailing former vice president’s asphyxiating campaign. That ship has sailed, as we’ll all see on March 3, when Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg divide up most of the delegate cake.

I have no doubt that Bloomberg’s wall-to-wall advertising blitz will win him a lot of votes. As I’ve noted previously, money doesn’t have a large vocabulary, but it does know how to say “Yes.” “Mini Mike” has spent some $500 million dollars so far, and his campaign is barely underway.

Still, I doubt he’ll be able to effectively impersonate Autolycus, that amiable rogue in “The Winter’s Tale,” who bragged that he, like the chap who stole Odysseus’s helmet, was a “snapper-up of unconsidered trifles.”
