RYAN MAURO: QATAR (PRONOUNCED GUTTER) IS NO ALLY

http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.11493/pub_detail.asp
After 9/11, it became commonplace to ridicule the status of Saudi Arabia as an “ally.” For decades, American leaders cuddled up to the Saudi Royal Family as it spent billions of dollars to export radical Islam around the globe. Today, the U.S. is eager to have our “ally,” Qatar, take a leading role in the region while it does the exact same thing.

Qatar is home to Sheikh Yousef al-Qaradawi, the most influential Sunni theologian and top Muslim Brotherhood cleric. He uses his popular show on Al-Jazeera, also based in Qatar, to rally support for Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and terrorism and to spout the most vial forms of anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism. Support flows to the Muslim Brotherhood and Wahhabist ideologues from Qatar.

Soeren Kern wrote an eye-opening article about Qatar’s role in funding the spread of radical Islam in the West. In France, it is spending $65 million low-income suburbs inhabited mostly by Muslim immigrants. Hundreds of these areas were coined by Dr. Daniel Pipes as “No-Go Zones” after the French government designated them as “Sensitive Urban Zones” because of their hostility to authority. When the police dare to enforce the law in these areas, violent riots are often sparked that quickly spiral out of control.

U.S. REPS FROM RICE GROWING STATES FURIOUS THAT IRAQ (GRATEFUL?) BUYS RICE FROM INDIA

US lawmakers upset over Iraq buying basmati from India

Houston, Feb 25 (PTI): US Congress members from the largest rice-growing states are on the warpath, asking Iraq to resume buying long-grain rice from their country, instead of from India. ”We liberated their country for one thing,” said Texas Congressman Ted Poe. “We would think they would consider the US in trade since we spent billions of dollars not only to liberate their country, but to rebuild their infrastructure.”

Twelve Congressmen have wrote to Iraq’s Trade Minister Khair Alla Babaker earlier this week pressing him to get Iraqis back on the American long-grain variety. The letter said that there was a 77 per cent drop in rice sales to Iraq between 2010 and 2011, even though “not long ago, Iraq represented the largest market for US rice.”

Fireman Sam creator detained at airport for veil comment at security gate
A retired fireman, and creator of the popular children’s character, Fireman Sam, was detained at an airport for questioning why a veiled woman was not checked by security.

As David Jones arrived at the security gates at Gatwick airport, he was looking forward to getting through swiftly so he could enjoy lunch with his daughters before their flight.Placing his belongings, including a scarf, into a tray to pass through the X-ray scanner he spotted a Muslim woman in hijab pass through the area without showing her face.
In a light-hearted aside to a security official who had been assisting him, he said: “If I was wearing this scarf over my face, I wonder what would happen.”

Steven F. Hayward:Why the Climate Skeptics are winning

Too many of their opponents are intellectual thugs.
http://www.weeklystandard.com/articles/why-climate-skeptics-are-winning_631915.html

The forlorn and increasingly desperate climate campaign achieved a new level of ineptitude last week when what had looked like a minor embarrassment for one of its critics—the Chicago-based Heartland Institute—turned out to be a full-fledged catastrophe for itself. A moment’s reflection on the root of this episode points to why the climate campaign is out of (greenhouse) gas.

In an obvious attempt to inflict a symmetrical Climategate-style scandal on the skeptic community, someone representing himself as a Heartland Institute insider “leaked” internal documents for Heartland’s most recent board of directors meeting to a fringe environmental blog, along with a photocopy of a supposed Heartland “strategy memo” outlining a plan to disseminate a public school curriculum aimed at “dissuading teachers from teaching science.”

JOEL MOWBRAY: DEM CONGRESSMAN WINKS AT ATNI-SEMITISM

Joel Mowbray reports: Dem congressman winks AT ANTI-SEMITISM

Our occasional correspondent Joel Mowbray (jdmowbra@erols.com) reports:

The growing predilection on the Left of accusing people who are pro-Israel of having dual loyalties has now emerged in a Democratic congressional primary in New Jersey, where two longtime Congressmen are squaring off because of redistricting. What’s unusual, though, is that the nasty charge is being tolerated, perhaps even encouraged, by a sitting member of Congress, Rep. Bill Pascrell.

Starting the flap was a piece at NJ.com by prominent local Arab leader Aref Assaf. Assaf called Rothman “Israel’s man in District 9.” He argued, “[T]otal and blind support for Israel becomes the only reason for choosing Rothman,” and concluded his attack on Rep. Rothman writing, “Loyalty to a foreign flag is not loyalty to America’s.”

GERALD A. HONIGMAN: ISRAEL….DO SOMETHING…ADRESS THIS PROBLEM QUICKLY****

Israel: Address This Problem–And Do So Quickly…

An article by Tsvi Ben Gedalyahu in February 26th’s Israel National News spoke of a new intifada erupting throughout much of Israel proper, within the so-called “Green (’49 armistice) Lines.”
Not wanting to invite its own “Arab Spring,” Israel’s leaders have evidently opted to allow such widespread, violent Arab attacks against both Jewish lives and property to go on, mostly unchallenged.

Big mistake. Israel’s situation is light years different from its surrounding neighbors.

Despite some grievances (who in Israel–or anywhere–doesn’t have some?), the Arabs of Israel are the freest anywhere outside of the West. Their major complaint is the very existence of the Jewish State…Sorry, no apologies for this.

With the region erupting, imploding and exploding, the uncertainty of the devils unkown replacing those known throughout the neighborhood is of course a great concern.

Yet, despite this, there is perhaps an even greater problem facing Israel today–one which it actually has a great degree of control of, if it will only act

Members of Cornell Students for Justice in Palestine

Re: “Stand Up for Israel, President Skorton” Opinion, Feb. 20

In a recent opinion piece [2], Judah Bellin ’12 criticized the initiative of Cornell Students for Justice in Palestine to oppose the collaboration with the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. The column claims that the motivation behind our petition opposing the Cornell-Technion collaboration is simple: We wish to “delegitimize Israel.” We reject that accusation as a smokescreen meant to obscure the core issues.

The key question is whether the Israeli military is carrying out war crimes and a belligerent occupation. The answer is simply yes. However, the article changes the question and moves straight to what it considers the main absurdity of our position: that by opposing defensive measures as “basic” as improved tank armor and the separation barrier, we are against Israel itself. But of course, tank armor is not meant simply to protect soldiers, but to protect them as they engage in violence toward others.
