FSM: Anti-Semitism Watch, The Editor, The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report
Seattle Bus Campaign Update
The last article in this series concerned 12 anti-Israeli posters which had been planned by an anti-Zionist cabal to adorn buses in the Seattle area. The article brought pro-Palestinians to FSM to express their outrage. It was also picked up by the David Horowitz Freedom Center. The death knell for the bus campaign came when the David Horowitz Freedom Center decided to run a counter-campaign on the buses, in which the poster image below was intended to adorn buses in the same region of King County.
The counter-campaign sparked outrage among some bloggers. The Examiner quotes David Horowitz, speaking about the campaign:
“These ads are part of an escalating attack on Israel by the left throughout American culture. We expect this sort of obscene propaganda in our radical universities but not on our city streets. These lies cannot go unanswered. The Gaza War took place because Hamas, a group committed to the mass murder of Jews, was rocketing Israeli civilians on a daily basis. War crimes are the Palestinian terrorists’ reason for being.”
As shown in the video below, the anti-Israel advertisements were pulled by King County officials just before they were due to go up. Ed Mast, who features in the video, complains about “violations of freedom of speech, ” but his freedom of speech has included comparing the destruction of a few houses in Israel with the Holocaust. When Mast was a volunteer coordinator for the International Solidarity Movement in 2002, some of those volunteers mixed with Hamas supporters, even though Hamas at that time was engaged in a bloody terrorist campaign against Israeli civilians.
The hero of many of these activists is Ali Abunimah, who argues for Israel to be abolished as a nation, and has written:
“Contrary to the oft-repeated claim that Hamas inflexibly seeks the complete conquest of Palestine and the expulsion of all Jews (aka “the destruction of Israel”), the movement has moved over time to explicitly endorse a generation-long truce with Israel and unspecified future political arrangements that will be the outcome of negotiations.”
The Hamas Charter declares that it is one of the wings of the Muslim Brotherhood and includes the following Hadith (Hadith references here):
“The Day of Judgement will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews.”
The anti-Zionists who are trying to prevent American money going to Israel seem all too ready to condemn “Islamophobes” and right-wingers, but rarely find themselves capable of condemning Hamas, which continues to commit acts of terrorism.
Hamas Leader Denies the Holocaust
It is one thing for emotive activists to compare the bulldozing of a few houses with the murder of six million human beings but Hamas, the group that is rarely criticized by such activists, maintains its campaigns of anti-Semitism.
Mahmoud Zahar (pictured above) is a leading Hamas member and was a co-founder of the terrorist organization. Yesterday, the Anti-Defamation League published a condemnation of this character for stating that the Holocaust was a lie. Zahar had made the statement on the anniversary of an incident in the Operation Cast Lead offensive which lasted from December 2008 to January 18, 2009.. People had taken refuge in a school in Al-Fakhura, a UN school, in Gaza, when it ws attacked. 43 had died. Zahar said:
“The lie according to which they were a victim of a holocaust and the (Jewish) people are a victim — this lie has crumbled with the holocaust of Beit Hanun, the holocaust of Al-Fakhura and the other countless holocausts … committed by the Zionist enemy.”
According to the Islamist Milli Gazette:
Mahmoud Al Zahar, a senior Hamas leader, has lost two sons, in Israeli attacks. Khaled was killed on 10th September, 2003, in an attack on Zahar’s house intended to assasinate him and Hussaim was killed on 15th January, 2008. But there are no signs of dilution in commitment to the Palestinian cause on Mahnoud Al Zahar’s face. He patiently explained how, because Palestinians were fighting for a moral cause, they were bound to succeed.
Zahar has urged the abandonment of peace talks. Indeed, during the last attempts to revive Palestinian/Israeli peace talks, Hamas murdered four Israelis near Hebron– one of whom was pregnant. On Monday, January 3, the London-based Palestine Times reported that Zahar attended a celebration marking the 23rd anniversary of the founding of Hamas. Zahar’s words contradict the assertions made by Ali Abunimah that Hamas can become peaceful. Zahar said:
“Sustained armed resistance is the only way to liberate Palestine… The Israeli occupation will come to an end; it has no future. Our principles and constants are not subject to human reasoning; our land is sacred and holy and our rights are not subject to referenda or elections or bargaining or compromise or sale.”
He reportedly suggested to other Palestinian groups an offer of cooperation:
“Our hands are extended to you; don’t let us down. We also call on the Arabs to utilize their armies for the liberation of Palestine or at least stop guarding Israel’s borders. We are not your enemies; your real enemies are those who would want to see your soldiers killed needlessly in futile and pointless wars in Lebanon, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan.”
The press release from the ADL contains words from Abraham H. Foxman, its national director, who said of Zahar’s Holocaust comments:
“Once again, the abhorrent and hateful philosophy of Hamas has reared its ugly head, polluting the public square with Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism. These comments are a disturbing reminder of the virulent anti-Semitism promoted by Hamas and the ongoing threat the group poses to Israel.
To compare the atrocities of the Holocaust to the actions of “Zionists” is an affront to truth and history. It is an insult to the six million Jews and millions of others who perished as a result of the Final Solution, and to those who fought the Nazis during World War II.
We must never forget that the Holocaust was a systematic effort to rid the world of the Jewish people.”
Anti-Semitism in the Netherlands
The Netherlands is regarded as tolerant – but its tolerance of intolerant migrants from Muslim nations has tarnished that image. Its tolerance of homosexuals has been challenged by young Muslims committing brutal assaults upon men they assumed to be gay. The nation that once gave sanctuary to Baruch Spinoza has now become a place where anti-Semitism has reared its head, in expressions of hate mostly carried out by Muslims. The Examiner makes mention of a video made by a French TV company (below). In this video Raphael Evers, a prominent rabbi, explains how he experiences daily abuse, but is reluctamt to blame Muslims as the main source of abuse and attacks. Rabbi Ever’s mother Bloeme, an elderly lady who survived the Holocaust, states that she recommends that her children and grandchildren should commit to Aliya.
Last month, Raphael Evers’ son Benzion Evers announced that he had decided to move to Israel because he felt “suffocated and caged” in the Netherlands. He said:
“I’m fed up with the verbal abuse and the streetfighting. It’s not that you can’t leave the house, but you need to constantly hide, to be careful.”
Anti-Semitism in the Netherlands has been creeping up over the past few years. In 2004, Manfred Gerstenfeld wrote of the visible increase in anti-Semitic incidents. Gerstenfeld, a Holocaust survivor who was raised in the Netherlands, noted that several of the perpetrators of anti-Semitic verbal abuse were Moroccan youths.
In November of 2007, the Hague-based Center for Information and Documentation on Israel reported that in 2006, cases of anti-Semitism in the Netherlands had risen by 64 percent. At that time the incidents did not involve violence. At the same time a survey of 1,125 Dutch citizens by market research group Synovate found that 91 percent of respondents thought that anti-Semitism had either increased or stayed the same over the previous five years.
Last year, in June, the Netherlands authorities were aware of the rise in anti-Semitic attacks, and decided to use “decoy Jews” to police the situation. The mayor of the former “liberal” Amsterdam, Lodewijk Asscher, observed the rise of anti-Semitism. Local reports had claimed:
“Jews in at least six Amsterdam neighborhoods often cannot cross the street wearing a skullcap without being insulted, spat at or even attacked.”
In the same month, prominent Dutch politician Frits Bolkerstein was quoted in a book by Manfred Gerstenfeld, entitled “Het Verval” or “The Decay; Jews in a Rudderless Netherlands.” In this book, Bolkerstein claimed that there was no future for orthodox Jews in the Netherlands, on account of “the anti-Semitism among Dutchmen of Moroccan descent, whose numbers keep growing.”
Bolkerstein said the government had failed to stem the rise of anti-Semitism and had no faith in its ability to extinguish it. He also stated that he was “pessimistic regarding the never-ending Israeli-Palestinian conflict that feeds anti-Semitism.” He also mentioned that several Arab TV stations in the Netherlands were contributing to the dangerous climate.
Bolkerstein’s comments were challenged by Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs, who said:
“I am grateful for the warning but I reject the concept… Bolkestein is pessimistic, and I am an optimist. I think it is a good idea for Dutch Jews to move to Israel, but only if it is out of free will and not to be forced out.
Yes it is true, there is an increase of anti-Semitism, but the support we receive as Jews from the Dutch people is on the whole very warm and impressive.”
Rabbi Jacobs has not escaped the attacks of anti-Semites. In December 2010, he told German newspaper Die Welt that in previous times he was never insulted, but now “Always.” His synagogue in Amersfoort was attacked with red paint, and the fence at his home was broken down. He has had attempts to break his windows and has even been attacked personally with stones.
An article in Monday’s New York Times by John Vincour discusses the issue of how anti-Semitism is affecting Netherlands society.
Anti-Semitism in Germany
Yesterday’s English edition of Der Spiegel reports on worries that in the East German state of Brandenberg anti-Semitism is starting to threaten the state’s six Jewish communities.
Rabbi Shaul Nekrich is the new chief rabbi in the region and he has expressed to other Jews the need to suppress signs of their Jewish identity. In an interview given to Märkische Allgemeine he said:
“I don’t want to be recognized as a Jew in Brandenburg. That means that I travel without a hat. And we don’t publicize events that we are planning. Community and event rooms in Brandenburg aren’t provided with police protection (as they are in some German cities). In (the town of) Bernau, there is a ritual: When the community hangs up a sign, they also take it back down. The students at the rabbi seminary are also advised not to wear a yarmulke on the street. If you like, why not try walking through (the streets) of Potsdam with a kippah?”
In Brandenberg, there are very few Muslims, so it must be assumed that the anti-Semitism and taunts are coming from indigenous Germans, rather than migrants.
Today’s Baltimore Jewish Times has an informed and fascinating article about the growing anti-Semitism in Germany, which mention that many Germans are using the media reports of the Israel/Palestiine conflict to “justify” current anti-Semitism. A fragment of the article is reproduced here:
Meanwhile, many of Germany’s 4 million Muslims stay connected with events in the Middle East via cable television networks, such as Hezbollah’s Al-Manar and Hamas’s Al-Aqsa. These anti-Semitic networks promote Holocaust denial.
“You cannot undo with education what these satellite broadcasts are doing,” said Matthias Kuntzel, an author and political scientist, in a phone interview from Hamburg.
The programs are fed to Germany via Egyptian and Saudi Arabian satellites. Both countries have refused repeated German requests to stop transmitting Al-Manar.
Although Al-Manar was banned in 2008, private homes with satellite dishes continue to receive its programs, making the ban ineffective.
Iran Invents A Myth of Jews Enacting a Holocaust against Zoroastrian Persians
The Bassij are a mostly student militia used by the Iranian government to enforce its thuggery upon the populace. It is reported in Britain’s Guardian newspaper that in December, members of the Bassij militia threatened to desecrate the mausoleum in Hamadan of two venerated Jewish historical figures, Esther and Mordechai.
Mordechai was a court adviser to Xerxes the Great in the 5th century BC. When the king’s vizier chose to have Jews in Persia exterminated, Mordechai resisted and Xerxes hanged the vizier and his 10 sons. Esther, Mordechai’s cousin (or niece), was Xerxes’ wife.
The Guardian journalist Meir Javedanfar notes that the threats of desecration are
“unprecedented in the modern history of Iran, as graves of Jewish saints in Iran (which also include Daniel) have always been considered holy and respected by Jews and Muslims alike.”
The threats were made in response to rumors that Israel was threatening to move on the Dome of the Rock mosque. The Iranian regime is giving fuel to the vilification of the mausoleum/shrine by falsely claiming that Mordechai had murdered 70,000 Persians.
This fabrication is being used as a “tu-quoque” black propaganda tool against Jews, and is reappearing in various press outlets. Farda News apparently states:
“Those Jews who accuse Hitler of burning them should look for the real holocaust in their own dark history.”
Mossad Spy in the Sky Spooks Saudis
Saudi Arabia is a regime where daft superstitions govern most aspects of society, superstitions which often lead to horrific consequences. People are still decapitated for witchcraft. But a story in Britain’s Telegraph from Wednesday shows something about the Saudi authorities’ mentality. Israel is one of the few nations in the Middle East that takes science seriously. Its universities and nature reserves regularly tag unusual migratory birds. For example, six years ago, a rare lappet-faced vulture (Nubian vulture, Aegypius tracheliotus) was tagged when it flew into the Hai Bar Carmel nature reserve.
The arrival of a vulture in Saudi Arabia, which was found to have a GPS device and a tag from Tel Aviv University was seen as an act of potential espionage. The bird was arrested and blogs across Saudi Arabia spoke of “Zionists” training the bird to act as a spy.
The Telegraph adds:
Several weeks ago an Egyptian official reportedly claimed that a shark that attacked tourists off the coastal resort of Sharm el Sheikh was also acting on behalf of the Israeli spy service.
Egypt’s New Year Bombings and the Jews
And finally, even though there are many more stories to cover, it is important to note that leading Muslim Brotherhood figures are publicly blaming Jews and Zionists for the New Year suicide bomb attack upon the al-Qiddissin (Saints) Church in Alexandria, Egypt.

Global media are reporting statements by the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood suggesting that Israel might be behind the recent bomb attack on an Egyptian Coptic church. According to one report:
Jordan’s lower house of parliament on Sunday condemned the explosion in front of a church in Egypt’s northern city of Alexandria which killed 21 people and injured dozens.
In a letter sent to the Egyptian People’s Assembly, the Jordanian lower house expressed “its strong condemnation of the heinous crime,” stressing its support to Egypt in standing up to terrorism, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
The Lower House stressed that Jordan supports Egypt’s efforts to preserve its security and unity among all segments and sects of its society.
Meanwhile, Jordan’s Islamic Action Front (IAF) also condemned the attack, saying in a statement on Sunday that “targeting innocents is against human values and contradicts with the Arab and Islamic civilization. It only serves the enemies of the Ummah (Arab and Muslim nation) who seeks to harm unity and fuel conflicts among the Ummah.”
The IAF, which is the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, called on the “rational Muslims and Christians to enjoy highest degrees of wisdom and responsibility,” urging the ruling regimes to expose “those entities behind such actions.”
The IAF said it does not rule out the possibility that the Mossad, the Israeli Intelligence, is behind these crimes.
The IAF is the political action arm of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood and earlier posts have reported on what has been described as the crisis within the organization. Generally unreported are the ties between the IAF and the US Muslim Brotherhood. The former IAF caretaker was Ishaq Farhan, a Jordanian of Palestinian origin, one of the three founders of the IAF, and a former education minister and senator. Mr. Farhan is also listed as a director of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), founded in the U.S. in 1980 by important members of the Global Muslim Brotherhood who wished to promote the “Islamization of Knowledge.”
IIIT was associated with the now defunct SAAR Foundation, a network of Islamic organizations located in Northern Virginia that was raided by the Federal government in March 2002 in connection with the financing of terrorism. In 2000, Mr. Farhan was denied entry to the U.S. after having had his visa revoked in the prior year without informing him.
The New York Times reported at that time that unidentified American diplomats called Mr. Farhan a “moderating force” and that he “has kept a distance from the vociferous opposition to peaceful relations with Israel.” However, in 2003 a media report said that the IAF had “declared a jihad in favor of Iraq and Palestine if the US attacks Iraq.” More recently, after congratulating President Obama on his election, the IAF called his decision to send more troops to Afghanistan “a hostile step against the Arab and Islamic worlds. In 2009, the IAF also called Israeli actions in Gaza “the ugliest crime in history.”

Arab media are reporting on comments by Global Muslim Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi in which he said that resisting the Israel occupation is “necessary option of moderate people.” According to one report:
Sheikh Yousuf al-Qaradawi urges IUMS to support opposition against Zionist takeover of Palestine Doha, 4 January – Addressing the participants at a symposium of the International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS), IUMS head Sheikh Yousuf al-Qaradawi stated that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian authority (PA) have managed to annihilate themselves with their own hands through their security cooperation with the Israeli occupation in Palestine. He stressed the need to resist the occupation of Palestine and pointed out that this is a responsibility not of Palestinians alone, but of all Muslim and Arab nations.
Resisting the Israeli occupation and mobilizing Muslim and Arab nations against it is a necessary option of moderate people, he insisted, and thus deserves support. As he was speaking at the symposium dealing with the effects of the Israeli Judaization campaign in the West Bank including Jersualem, Israeli occupation forces had already demolished the second Palestinian home in east Jerusalem since the beginning of this year, within a broad-based plan to drive the indigenous population out of the city. In the whole of the West Bank, according to UN records, 52 percent of the territory have already been turned into no-go areas for the indigenous population, while Israeli settlers and military forces enjoy freedom there. Qaradawi, a virulent anti-Semite is often referred to here as the most important leader of the global Muslim Brotherhood, an acknowledgement of his role as the de facto spiritual leader of the movement. In 2004, Qaradawi turned down the offer to lead the Egyptian Brotherhood after the death of the Supreme Guide. Based in Qatar, Sheikh Qaradawi has reportedly amassed substantial wealth through his role as Shari’ah adviser to many important Islamic banks and funds. He is also considered to be the “spiritual guide” for Hamas and his fatwas in support of suicide bombings against Israeli citizens were instrumental in the development of the phenomenon. A recent post has discussed a video compilation of Qaradawi’s extremist statements.
Qaradawi recently reiterated his support for suicide bombing in Israel and expressed his desire to die as a martyr “at the hands of a non-Muslim.”
